the Jets are a high powered offense and one of the best in the league. The Chiefs haven’t scored more than 10 points in a game since October and have just one touchdown in the three games since Tyler Palko took over as their starting quarterback. That touchdown was a stroke of luck, the Hail Mary pass to Dexter McCluster on the final play of the first half in Chicago that provided the game’s final margin. The next two games, beginning with Sunday’s meeting with the Jets in New York, are against two of the NFL’s highest-scoring teams. The Green Bay Packers come to Arrowhead Stadium to play the Chiefs the following Sunday. The Chiefs, in their present state, won’t be winning any scoring battles against the NFL's 7th ranked offense in the Jets, averaging 24.2 points a game, or the Packers, the NFL’s highest scoring team at 35 points per game. They need to keep the scoring to a minimum, as they did at Chicago. That’s suddenly a reasonable thought, even against two of the league’s best offensive teams. http://www.kansascity.com/2011/12/05/3303796/haley-says-chiefs-coming-around.html
I had to look this up, but inexplicably it is true. It must have to do with the red zone efficiency. The Jets are: 20th in plays run 26th in overall yards 27th in yards per play 30th in fumbles lost. Yet they're dead even in turnover differential and 8th in total points and points per game.
We have been much better in the red zone this year so that is why our point per G have been decent and paint a prettier picture then reality.
My guess is you can give credit to strong red-zone (like you said) and solid defense and special teams - the defense and special teams gets the offense in position to score.
Consider the source. Kansas City hasn't seen or had a decent offense in quite some time. Perhaps going back before the Matt Cassell era. For what its worth, Kyle Orton came in, threw one pass, then left the game with a dislo finger and never returned. They call him One and Done Orton in KC now.
The Jets could be averaging 2.5 pts per game and still be considered a high powered offense compared to KC
We have had a bunch of D/STs scores but our O is still averaging 22 PPG which is pretty damn good considering the OL/running game problems we have had.
They've put forth a great offense when you consider he's inflicted only 19 passing TD's and 3 rushing TD's on them. At that rate he's only going to participate in 29 TD's this season. That's been known to crush offenses in the past.
I find it fascinating that just about everyone is more than willing to say the Jets offense is horrible because of the problems they've had, but completely dismiss that being #1 in red zone efficiency could possibly be viewed as a positive, and something that the players and coaches could even take some credit for.
But our defense sucks! We have no pass-rush! Can't stop a nosebleed! Rex has lost his touch, his defense isn't in the top 2 anymore...:breakdance:
