This is part of the fun of the NFL, creating playoff scenarios and seeing what has to happen. I think Houston could blow that division. Is it likely? No, their running game and defense should be enough to carry them. But you never know with a question mark at QB. Tennessee would have to go on a run though, which we wouldn't want.
apologies if this point has already been discsussed-- but is it fair to pin the "blame" of there possibly being so many other teams in the 10-11 win range mostly on the Colts ineptitude? I wonder how many of these wins for our competition came from W's provided by the Colts.... just a thought no research involved. Of course, had we won ONE of the games vs Oakland or Denver we'd be in a far better situation , no doubt. Also do not feel the schedule makers screwed any team more than the Jets were (3 game road trip and the trip to denver on short rest)
checking the schedule, Indy plays 12 AFC games this year of those games the following were against potential playoff teams as of right now Tenn x2 Hou x2 Pitt Cincy Balt (this week) NE These are the games against teams not in Playoff contention Cle Jax x2 KC NFC teams played NO TB Atl Car they actually had a pretty tough schedule this year, only 6 games against teams not in the serious playoff conversation after 12 weeks. Now granted these teams probably would have an extra loss if not for Mannings injury so a couple of those teams (Tenn, Cincy specifically) so it hurts us to have them play so many of the teams contending in the AFC this year.
Wow, Cincy and Tennessee jump off the page immediately. Who knew one player could have such an impact?
I kind of agree with Abdul. Their offense looked good in the last game, sure, but GB's defense is pretty low ranked except in takeaways and against the run. But the team gave up 38 points in all and the defense couldn't stop them from scoring a field goal with less than a minute left. Their D also looked especially bad the week before against NO. Granted those are two high-powered offensive teams, but giving up 49 and 38 points (although some were not given by the D) is still pretty bad. The Giants aren't bad at all, and they've had some tough opponents, but I think we can beat them if we have some momentum going and improve some.
The Giants back 7 is abominable. When their DLine isn't creating pressure, which has been the case for the most part the past 4 weeks, their defense is going to struggle mightily.
The Jets are as much to blame for the possibility of a lot of 10-11 win teams as anybody else. Look at their losses: Oakland, Baltimore, New England, Denver, all teams headed to 10+ wins it seems. Look at their wins: Dallas, Jacksonville, Buffalo, Miami, San Diego, Washington, all teams headed to 9 or less except the Cowboys who are not in the AFC. If the Jets win 10-11 games they will likely have contributed more to the surge of teams than anybody but the Colts.
There is a decent chance the Jets will be in the #6 spot after Sunday with a win vs. Kansas City, a Titans loss vs. the Saints, a Bengals loss vs. the Texans and a Raiders loss vs. the Packers. And if the Jets do get in, they will likely go to Houston or Denver/Oakland in the Wild Card Round. All winnable games.
I think it's better than a decent chance ... I'd say its about 75%. Three of those outcomes are highly likely. I think the Bengals have a decent shot against the Texans, but I do think they'll lose. Ive seen this Jet team has respond and come up big under presure. I can't wait to see how the Bengals, Raiders and Titans play the last three games with all the pressure on them, having to chase us. Let's get in and go to Denver, New England and Baltimore! The REVENGE TOUR.
You have just put a huge smile on my face. We need to stay focused and take care of our own business. The Giants game scares me to no end.
The one big plus on Sanchez coming out of college and he's since proven in the NFL is he is a BIG game QB...always seems to do well. I can see us running the table if we stop playing down to the competition. Things do hinge on what the titans do though... Having said ALL that...the way the Jets have played they don't deserve the playoffs this year. Yeah, I said it. We have 2 losses that shouldn't be there because they can't figure out a way to play 3 facets of football in one single game all the time. It's frustrating. This team reminds me of last year's San Francisco Giants baseball team...they seem to excel on making the game as difficult as possible. And, as proven by the Broncos game, if you let a team hang around...you'll win some and lose some. Personally, at this point, I don't think they make the playoffs and we finally give Schotty the boot and get a real freakin' game calling OC in here. Just mho.
Last night was a good result for us. We need the Steelers to go into Week 17 tied with the Ravens or one game ahead. As long as that happens, I have no doubt that the Ravens will knock the snot out of the Bengals.
