I'm not advocating any of these moves, just saying what we can and can't do based on salary considerations (e.g. the most important variable). infos taken from the great -> http://www.nyjetscap.com/salary.html

    1. Mark Sanchez -> (14.25 mill in 2012) Cutting him saves us 9.25 mill $.
I think if we keep him, and I think we should, he will be asked to restructure and lose some money.
    http://www.nyjetscap.com/marksanchez.html

    2. Calvin Pace -> (7.35 mill) Whole salary guaranteed so uncuttable. First year he can (and will if he doesn't take a paycut) be cut is 2013.
I actually think he's an above average starter and would benefit greatly from a decent OLB across him. Also Wilkerson in his second season with a full off-season should help him out.
    http://www.nyjetscap.com/calvinpace.html

    3. Bart Scott -> (5.95 mill) Whole salary guaranteed so uncuttable. First year he can (and will if he doesn't take a paycut) be cut is 2013.
Love him and is still effective vs the run but considering the direction the NFL is going does it make sense to pay so much a guy who is basically out on 3rd downs? Our ILBs have some fault in TEs being so good vs us imo.
    http://www.nyjetscap.com/bartscott.html

    4. Brandon Moore -> (4.46 mill) Cutting him means saving 3 mill $.
Wouldn't be against it depending on who we bring in instead of him. Draft I'm looking at you. Keep in mind I think Robert Turner would do a good job at RG and that I think Ducasse will never be successful at RG (only RT or 6th OL if at all).
    http://www.nyjetscap.com/brandonmoore2.html

    5. Santonio Holmes -> (9.25 mill) Uncuttable in 2012. However very cuttable in 2013.
Jets did a good thing in leaving themselves the option of getting rid of this head-case in case he underperforms again in 2012. VG contract. Hopefully next year he takes his head out of his ass.
    http://www.nyjetscap.com/santonioholmes.html

    6. Wayne Hunter -> (2.5 mill) We'd save 2.5 mill by cutting him in 2012.
With a full off-season I think he could be better than this year. Also I love him as a 6th OL (his real role imo). I'm guessing it depends on how Ducasse does in the off-season and what we do in FA/draft.
While he might stay on the team next year (possibly with a pay-cut but guaranteeing part of his contract) I can't see him being here in 2013 on a 4 mill salary.
    http://www.nyjetscap.com/waynehunter.html

    7. Mike DeVito -> (2.5 mill) We'd save 2.5 mill by cutting him in 2012.
Love the guy and think there is no way he is cut next season for that little money. The fact he is here also offers us some insurance in case Pouha leaves as he can also play NT.
    http://www.nyjetscap.com/mikedevito.html

    8. Antonio Cromartie -> (8.25 mill) Uncuttable in 2012. Possible in 2013 allowing us to save 8.25 mill.
I thought we over-paid him but if you look at the contract it's very well written... again heads up contract writing by Tannenbaum!
    http://www.nyjetscap.com/antoniocromartie.html

    9. Eric Smith -> (2 mill) We'd save 2 mill cutting him in 2012.
You know what? Considering our S situation I'd like to see him on the team next year IF we don't re-sign Leonhard. But we need an atheltic guy to play with him back there. It's a MUST.
Just like with Hunter I think Tanny will ask him to take a little payct but have the contract guaranteed for 2012. In 2013 he'll never see the 3 mill he's supposed to get.
    http://www.nyjetscap.com/ericsmith.html

    FREE AGENTS:

    1. Plaxico Burress -> (3 mill in 2011) Honestly I think he's a RZ target only at this stage of his career. Lazy route runner. Wouldn't mind bringing in a guy or two at the position next year so we won't really need him. IF he wants to stay around he should do it for less money. Nothing more than 2 mill plus maybe some incentives for TDs caught.
Hopefully, if he stays, he'll learn the route tree better with a full off-season. And not bitch about reduced playing time.

    2. Sione Pouha -> (2.45 mill in 2011) Now here is a guy we HAVE to keep. He is old but only in his 3rd season as the starter so not too worn down. Would like to have him around at least for the next 2 seasons so a 3 yr contract should be offered. I'm also expecting he gets a raise.
For those wondering I think Kenrick Ellis will rotate with Pouha and DeVito the next couple of years and then eventually replace one of them as the starter. One of our DEs is basically another NT or DT.

    3. Jim Leonhard -> (2.45 mill in 2011) Better S than Smith imo. Will have to see how healthy he is since a patellar tendon injury is no joke but if healthy I hope we keep him and not Smith. One of the two HAS to stay but I pray the gods one of them goes away. They have the same weaknesses and thus are redundant.

    4. Bryan Thomas -> (3.7 mill in 2011) Career over imo. And if he wants to come back I hope not with the Jets. We should roll with Pace, Westerman, Maybin and a high draft pick next year. Wouldn't mind taking a look at Matt Roth.

    5. LaDainian Tomlinson -> (1.2 mill in 2011) Still serviceable imo and Powell has shown NOTHING while McKnight looks to be more of a ST guy/slot WR/ pass catching RB only. If he comes back for vet min I'd say why not. He's also the ultimate LEADER of our O. However if we bring in a power back via FA/draft let him go.

NOTE -> I chose to only include these guys in the article because they're the ones with a salary of more than 1 mill who are worth discussing.

Eric Smith needs to be gone for sure. Wayne Hunter needs to change positions cause he's a freaking turnstyle.

like to see LT and plax back. burress is really only good for TD passes but he's freaking great at that. I really like our redzone efficiency this year and I feel like he provides a safety blanket to Mark.

I don't hate Sanchez but his huge salary is a concern for me. If he restructures I would love him to stay.

Wayne Hunter and Eric Smith should definitely be cut

Hunter, Thomas, Smith, LT ... thanks for the memories.
    Godspeed.

Scott and Pace ... you can start packing your bags for a flight in 2013.

My problem is... considering Sanchez's salary and the style of O we (want to) run wouldn't it make much more sense to have a more affordable QB like Matt Flynn or Jason Campbell and sign a guy like Matt Forte who's actually a difference maker out ofthe back-field?

A Forte-Greene combination would give us the best RB duo in the league imo.

PS I know it's fantasy football but still...

    1) Schotty must go.
    2) offensive line overhaul. (Moore, Slauson and Hunter gone).
    3) add another running back
    4) trade Holmes, part ways with plax
    5) get Edwards back. Kerley is fine for slot (hold onto the damn ball) pickup another wideout who can catch, get upfield, hold onto the football and has desire (where is the next chrebet? Scour the halls of hofstra.)
    6) get a safety (sherry rhodes still blows now and forever).
    7) add ilb depth, olb depth (is mauga good?)
    8) trade cro, start Wilson (get another CB)
    9) Rex gets a pass

What's the problem with Slauson? He's doing pretty good.

Yea, I made that list right after the game. Slauson has been alright enough that if one of the three were to stay it would be him.

I would take plax back too if he comes cheap. Plax, Edwards and Kerley could get it done. I am so down on Holmes at this point I can't wait to see him gone (selfish, poor attitude, fumbalitis, shitty blocker, physically soft and most importantly minimal production) has he had a 100yd game with us?

Build the o-line, run the football and hit the d off balance with play-action.

If I had to I would probably take cro back too (just like we had to do when aso failed to sign).

Everybody is on the chopping block after this debacle of a shit season.

If Slauson is your weak link on the offensive line you're fine. No doubt Hunter needs to go although I wouldn't mind him as a backup which is where he shined last year.

Eric Smith should be a backup as well, he simply doesn't have the speed to play safety in the NFL. If you combined his smarts with Pool's speed & athleticism you'd have a hell of a safety. Oh well.

Bryan Thomas may be out, I can't imagine he'd be the same player after his injury and we already struggle to set the edge as is. I wonder if Maybin can add the strength to be a full time starter? Probably not, but as evidenced by this season he was badly mishandled/coached in Buffalo.

It's not going to be a good situation with Pace and Scott starting again next year after it's clear both have lost a step since they were signed to their original deal. Scott is especially dangerous since he can't be out there on passing downs at all. I'm sure Mauga will see more time in 2012.

Corners are all there next year, maybe a Cromartie trade since I imagine he has good value and CB is an area of strength. I think it's reasonable to expect Wilson to step into the starting CB role and us signing a cheaper veteran for the nickel if need be. Keep in mind, Revis is due for a hold...err...'new contract negotiation' this summer.

WR Burress needs to be back as a RZ guy but we need a guy with speed on the outside opposite Holmes. Holmes has speed but his strengths lie in catching short passes and making things happen underneath. The problem is this year there's no double coverage on the other side of the field because Burress doesn't get ideal separation.

RB I think this current group will be back, maybe sans LT but he still looks like he's got some wheels. He may just wanna retire or go somewhere else at this point.

DL I don't see anything other than depth signing, actually one of our more solid groups. Also nice that it's our youngest.

With Indy playing Jacksonville next week, there's a chance they may not even get Luck and Peyton won't be available. Actually as of today St. Louis has the #1 pick.

So then that means they'll probably trade the pick (I'm sure they'd get a nice return), so it doesn't mean that Indy will be that team that they trade it to.

Then we should give them everyone and the kitchen sink to get Luck. Something like Chicago gave for Cutler.

That's possible, but what if St. Louis decides to draft Luck and trade Bradford? Either way there's still another week to play out.

They will do much better for their team with 3 or 4 1st round picks then they would with Luck. Hell Joe Montana wont win them a superbowl next year.

Also I believe Keller has 1 year left on his deal? Wouldn't be surprised if he was dangled out there as trade bait. I would like to see us bring in a more all around tight end and use somebody like Cumberland as the receiving threat at the position.

You know what? I wouldn't mind that. Keller is a bit over-rated by the fanbase. Te question is if Cumberland can come back healthy from a very bad injury.
