I'm telling you..the way the offense went this year and what's now coming out with the player upheaval is hitting Rex and Tanny in the face like a mule kick. They know Schotty's entire area of responsibility totally broke down and he's as good as gone.
Is it just me or does anyone else think that it behooves the Jets to at least start thinking about, or even going so far as to interview, candidates for the OC job? Even if they don't plan on firing him, if they think he has a decent shot to get an HC job, isn't it wise to start planning for life without him (oh what a blissful place that would be)?
Heh! Schotty Haters want to put words in Ryan's mouth. Hey, obviously if Schotty gets an HC offer, he will be gone. On his terms. And no one can rule out that even if he does not, the Jets may fire him. But if he does not, I still think it likely that he will be back.
Absolutely. I dont get this song and dance. If you don't want..or don't expect him back, it's only common sense to get your guys lined up and start interviewing. Unless they are sure it's Callahan and everything has already been lined up and decided.
Then at least they need to be planning for Schotty's potential departure by considering candidates. It just makes sense. They don't necessarily need to bring them in for interviews. My point is, I think there's more going on behind the scenes than we've seen or heard.
of course there is. no team is going to lay out there plans for everyone to know be patient everything will unfold after the superbowl
There's alot going on..and it seems to lean more and more to Schotty being gone given the absolute total breakdown of the offense both on and off the field under his tutelage. HC job or not, they'll find a reason to part ways.
I don't get it. Doesn't tacitly mean implied but not said? If it isn't said, it isn't news. I don't think Rex is capable of implication.
Did anyone else think the presser with Rex/Tanny was really weird yesterday? First, what was the point of a joint press conference? Second, why were they so late? Third, why did Tanny feel compelled to discuss Schotty's situation before he was even asked about it? And finally, WTF do these quotes mean (I took them off PC transcript)? "We do expect [Schotty] back" - You mean like that stray cat that you fed that one time and now it won't leave your porch? "he's done a really creditable job for us" - Creditable? Even if that was a word, it doesn't sound like a ringing endorsement. "I can confirm that he is being interviewed by the Jaguars" - OK, so does that mean you're doing the professional thing and giving him a chance to move on with dignity before firing his ass? My pure speculation is that Tanny and Rex were prepared to fire him, told Schotty who begged them to wait until the Jax job was announced, they caved, and they had a long discussion about how to play it in the presser which caused them to be late. Or not.
Beningo and Roberts actually made a good point today. The great HC / QB combos (Belicheat / Brady, Walsh / Montana) all have close relationships. When was the last time you saw Rex pull Sanchez aside to say something to him, or give him any coaching, during a game? Maybe it happens in practice, who knows, but Rex is admittedly clueless and 100% hands off as far as the offense goes. As a head coach, how can you be that ignorant and lazy (or deferential to your offensive coordinator)??
