Per Cimini: This would be huge to have a veteran and capable quarterback riding the pine. Hopefully, we'll have a restored O-line but, every time Sanchez has taken a gut knocking hit this past season I became very unsettled thinking grand pa Brunell was next in line. Fear is a huge motivator and I think we will really see Sanchez rise to the occasion if there is some solid competition waiting in the wings.
I think if given the chance, McElroy could back up his self-righteous words and be a good QB for your team. I'd rather it be a different team, but eh...
I'll take Jason Campbell for the job. I imagine the Jets are gonna make substantial roster moves this offseason to improve the offense so if Mark is still playing like an asshole Campbell can come in and manage the game.
I don't know if we'd end up with a pretty big name guy riding the pine but bringing in someone to push him even a little bit wouldn't be a bad idea. What UFA is going to want to sign here anyway if they know that the are pretty much just there to scare Sanchez straight?
Campbell would be huge too. I think it would also show the team that the Jets mean business this year and help to ease any lingering exasperation with the offense if Sanchez sputters a bit early on.
I'm not convinced many of the players listed would either A) come here or B) if they did provide enough motivation for Sanchez to pick up his game. Smith can get a starting job somewhere IMO. No thanks on McNabb. I could see Campbell and maybe Orton fitting the bill, but that's about it. Flynn will probably get more money elsewhere, although if he'd come here I'd take him.
Shaun Hill is a UFA. And also an excellent backup/spot starter. Most of those other QBs will be looking to start from the onset. That ain't gonna happen in NY.
Why would a quarterback who just went 13-3 after finally hooking up with a coach who understands how to get the best from him, come to New York to back up or compete with Sanchez?
