In my opinion, Rex just isn't cut out to be a head coach. He's obviously a great defensive coordinator but a head coach has to control both sides of the ball. It just seems like he has no clue what to do on offense.

Also, all of the talk and disfunction starts at the top. When the head coach aka the leader of your team is talking all the crap that he does, flipping off fans, and telling them to shut the F up, what kind of example does that set? People always say that the players take on the mentality of there coach and that seems to be true in this case.

Of course, Rex did take the Jets to back to back Conference Championship games so I might not have much evidence to support the fact that he isn't cut out to be a head coach. It's just my opinion. When you guys were signing all of these troubled players and rex was doing all the talk, I kept saying this thing will blow up eventually, and I guess I was right. Next year is going to be an important one for Rex. I honestly think you guys will miss the playoffs again and then Rex will only have 1 more year to prove he belongs. He better make some changes soon because I'm sure the owner is getting sick of all of the media attention.

P.S. I'm really hoping the Dolphins and jets can battle it out for a wildcard spot, and I think it is pretty likely. We'll see.

I'll only list players who've had some impact

    2006
    D'Brick, Mangold, E.Smith, B.Smith L.Washington
extra # 1 pick helps... good mid round production

    2007
    Revis Harris Stuckey
trades for two crucial members of the team

    2008
    Gholston Keller Lowery
trading away picks hurts Gholston not bad pick as he was a consensus top choice and not a reach

    2009
    Sanchez, Greene Slauson
not quite as big an impact as 2007

    2010
    Wilson, Ducasse, McKnight & Connor
Ducasse only truly bad pick so far, but jury is still out

    2011
Wilkerson, Ellis, Powell, Kerley & McElroy
could be best mid round picks since 2006

    I don't agree that the picks have been bad in '09, 10 & 11

but they do need a productive draft this season

They missed on one pick (maybe two if you count Schlegel in the 3rd) when Mangini was here. So far since Mangini left they missed on Ducasse, Wilson (although I have seen some improvement), Ellis and Powell. 3 years in a row we draft a RB?! That's a problem, and we don't have the needed depth on the OL.

This thread has forced me out of lurked status.

Let's make a few things clear: the locker room, the infighting, the bad vibes-- these are all results, not causes.

This team was a win and luck away from another playoff appearance. Unprecedented in Jets history. But why did it not happen? Not bc of Rexs mouth, or him calling the D, or being too funny, or even prima donna WRs (which every team has).

The League is an offense based league. If you have the most efficient offenses, you win the most games. But deeper than an offense league, it is a QB league. The arena football-like passing numbers are the result of the pussification of the sport. If your QB isn't at worst extremely efficient, you have zero chance.

We had the 27th rated offense in football. Only San Fran had less yards. Of course Alex Smith though was properly managed, and had a QB RATING OF OVER 90!

    Here are the QB ratings of all playoff teams: 123, 111, 106, 97, 97, 93, 92, 91, 90, 81, 80, and Tim Tebows joke 72.

Sanchez?? 78. That doesn't include the several fumbles.

The three teams who have sub 90s QBs have a combo of top ten D and top ten rushing. And yet two of those teams have basically the Jets record (9-7 and 8-8) plus luck.

The moral of the story is that when the only QBs worse than your own are the likes of Gabbert, Painter, Bradford, Grossman, McCoy, Kassel, Orton, Skelton, and Freeman, it REQUIRES the number 1 defense and top rushing game just to go 9-7 and get some luck.

So yes, blame Rex, a little, for god forbid asking his offense and staff to be able to rely on their top 5 draft pick QB to just be AVERAGE. Definitely blame Schotty for not managing that QB properly and abandoning the focus on rushing the football. Definitely blame Tanny for cutting Faneca and Woody, two stout run blockers, in favor of a mediocre Guard and an abysmal RT, and for sounding 50 mil on a #2 WR.

But at the end of the day, in a league where the best QB means playoffs, save for a few rare cases each year of everything else being perfect or lucky, YOU WILL NOT WIN ISH WITH A QB IN THEBOTTOM TIER! So please, enough with the real world road rules style soap opera subplots as being "the reason we failed". They aren't. They are the result.

Herm had junc's respect. And Mangini had the fear from sphenisciphobiacs.

I'm under the impression that Tannenbaum follows the HCs needs and goes and gets the player(s) he wants. 06-08 were Mangini's baby, while 09-present has been RR and his scout team.

Tannenbaum is more of a capologist/contract guy. Kris Jenkins shared this exact view in an interview a couple months ago.... He said Tannenbaum doesn't have nearly as much input as ppl think.

I honestly think you would've been better off if you didn't reveal that you are a Dolphin fan. That way your credibility would hold some weight here.

Thank you. It's not enough to say the players picked were good bad or indifferent. That's not the only metric. It's also important to manage the team to keep the roster strong overall and in all areas.

Since the Jets got Damien Woody, they have paid insufficient attention to the OL. The team also lacks both a good pass rushing LB and an LB who can cover a pass catching TE.

Also you are correct that the Schlegel pick was a bad one.

I agree with a lot of this, but I'm not ready to say that Schotty will be back yet. I think a lot of what's been said in the past few days is just smoke and mirrors to give Schotty a chance at an HC job. I mean, if they just fired him they'd be stuck paying him AND he'd probably not get an HC job. Plus, there has been a lot of double talk. Like Rex/Tanny saying the "fully expect" Schotty to get a HC job. Sounds to me like they're already not expecting him back.

I wouldn't consider Wilson a miss. He's been steadily improving as a #3 corner. Perhaps with Revis's tutelage he could take over for Cro one day. Also, I don't know if Ellis is a miss. I mean, he barely played this year. But, when he did, he seemed to be a pretty effective run stuffer. With Pouha in his 30s, we definitely need to start developing someone and Ellis seems to have the raw skills that can be built upon.

It is way too early to say they missed on Ellis & Powell, and you are just wrong on Wilson.

There is time and opportunity for even Ducasse to turn it around

As for OL depth, add'l picks were given up to move up in draft to get guys like Revis, Harris, Keller, Greene etc.

Plus, you forget the injury to Turner
If not injured, Turner would have been RT with Hunter as depth
Turner would have filled in for Mangold BTW

I can't kill Tanny on draft picks

Agreed 100%. The leadership of this franchise is clueless, arrogant, and delusional.

It starts with the GM, who knows nothing about football. If you want evidence of how much he sucks, look no further than the 2008 draft:

    http://www.jetkingdom.com/fans/jake/new-york-jets-2008-draft-review

Lowery was actually halfway decent, and we traded him away, despite having zero depth in the secondary.

Rex is a good defensive coach, but Baltimore clearly knew what they were doing when they passed over him and went with John Harbaugh.

Note to Rex: every coach chases the Super Bowl, you idiot.

Take a closer look at recent history. The really good picks of the fat Tannenbaum era -- D'Brick, Mangold, and Revis -- were signature Mangini moves. I doubt Tannenbaum was the brains behind those decisions.

Mangini followed the same blueprint when he took the reins in Cleveland:

    Alex Mack C
    Joe Haden CB

you can't blame holmes for Sanchez throwing that pick on the final drive of the Dolphins game where we would have taken the lead.He wasn't on the field

Both his years in Cleveland ended in 5-11 seasons, top 10 picks both years he better draft some high end talent, and how many of his picks does he trade as well?

I am not saying Mangini did a great job in CLE.

My point is that Revis, Mangold and D'Brick have the stamp of being Mangini moves, and those picks indisputably form the current core (guys who don't suck) of our team.
