Yeah, so how do think he'd handle the NYC media piling on him if he has some bad games? He couldn't handle Tennessee
I could be on board with Garrard...When he got cut this season I was 100% about bringing him on board to provide competition. Then he took his surgery, so i guess we see how he can bounce back. He provides a decent pocket presense, as well as the ability to make something happen out side the pocket. I feel he can command more out of our offense as well, as Sanchez sulks to much.
Yeah, how many times have you seen this before. A backup QB has a couple brilliant relief appearances and lands an outrageous contract from some poor, desperate team. Here are the guys I think of... Rob Johnson AJ Feely Matt Schaub (although he is actually very good) Kolb Matt Cassell
We already have a game manager who is much smarter than Campbell on the roster. I'd say bring in Kyle Orton or draft a QB late in the draft.
Overrated or not, Kyle Orton is still good enough to start in the NFL so he should provide good competition for Sanchez in training camp should the Jets sign him.
My guess is, Orton will be starting for someone next year. In this QB talent starved league, his track record is too good for some to pass on (and that's sad). We already tried the draft with McElroy. Not sure there will be much better in the late rounds this year. Honestly, I don't know what to tell you. Maybe Garrard. He's got starter experience. No Vince Young! He'd curl up and die under the NY media scrutiny if he ever had to play.
I think Campbell or Orton would be the best bets. Flynn and Alex Smith are going to be starters, and McNabb and Young are terrible.
Haha, do you watch football? Serious question. That's the only way you could think Vince Young is good.
The thing about a player like Flynn is you don't know how he will do over time. Opposing DC's begin to look at game film and look for weaknesses. They may not find anything significant, but sometimes, many times, they do, and the Qb in question becomes less effective.
everybody would have been pleased to have McElroy as a backup after the preseason he had, so I don't see any need to change course for next year. the problem was that we didn't have a backup capable of playing at all to spell Sanchez if he faltered. if McElroy was healthy I would have been more than happy to see him play. I don't know why next year should be any different. he looked good in the preseason, and he is just a backup. give him his shot, no need to waste time or energy signing a washed up former starter simply because they have started previously.
Counting on a guy who's never thrown a regular season pass to push/spell the incumbent starter is nuts. We must have a veteran back-up next year.
Something else to consider : After he opened his big mouth and did what he did on the air, how "popular" would this guy be in the JETS clubhouse now? yikes! Some very uncomfortable situations are in store...
we had a veteran backup this year, little good that did us. and if he isn't as good as the starter, which is why he is a backup, you certainly aren't counting on him to any significant extent other than in the case of injury. but the reason why we needed a backup this season would have been to yank Sanchez, and what is the point of yanking him just to bring in a veteran who inherently isn't as good or else he wouldn't be the backup he would be the starter. I'd rather go with the unproven young player who has looked good in limited action in hopes that his performance wasn't a fluke. which has the better payoff?
