Looking forward to next year and our crop of FA’s, I think Sione Pouha is our number one area of focus for resigning players. Even though he doesn’t have a lot of mileage, he will be 33 at the start of next year. He is very familiar with our system so I think he would want to remain a Jet for life. However, who knows what will be offered by other organizations (jets should not offer him more than a 3 year deal). If he bolts here are some options. ON the roster: Kendrick Ellis: I think this late 1st round talent will really benefit from a full offseason. He has the size, strength and quickness (feet) to be an extremely productive/disruptive player. Marcus Dixon: I like this guy. Is not flashy and I see him as more of a 3-4 end but is very stout and could be a short term/tandem with Ellis solution if Pouha leaves. MTV: love the Size, a true “plugger”. Seems to get worn down after a few plays and becomes to vertical. Needs to build stamina without losing weight to be considered a true replacement option. Ripottti: I like him as an end, not a true 3-4 NT. I don’t see him as an option here. Some other interesting options available via FA Antonio Garay (SD) – NT Aubrayo Franklin (NO) Howard Green (GB) – DT Paul Soliai (MIA) – NT*** I Like! Jonathan Fanene (CIN) - DT
Bring back Pouha. K Ellis should improve with experience, ditto for Wilkerson and Dixon. Our DL isn't in bad shape. Obviously you can never have too many bodies in the rotation.
He will go to the highest bidder IMO. He never got a "big" payday in the NFL and this will be his only opportunity to do so.
Pouha should be resigned. But there is no reason not to bring in a Soliai. However, I agree with LTJF that he will look for a big contract for his one time payday in the NFL.
I can see him getting a 3-4 year deal worth $5-6 million/year or so. I don't think we will re-sign him at that price. It's hard to say without knowing what the cap situation will be though.
Not as big as Soliai - he got paid $12.5m on the franchise tag last season and will be looking for a big contract - especially as he is only 28 and will be looking for a career making 5 year deal (probably around $8-10m per season at least) edit: also given recent chemistry issues and the fact Pouha is about as high character a guy as the Jets have i can see them making every effort to re-sign him
I want him back, but not not at over 4 mill a year. We drafted youth along the line to help both depth and the cap. This depth allows us to not overpay for a NT. I would really like us to use some money and or draft picks upgrading our linbackers.
Pouha has literally been an unsung hero since 2009 filling in for Jenkins in 09 10 and then dominating this year. He deserves a good deal and the Jets should give it to him.
Business doesn't work that way, specifically the business of pro football. The Jets paid Curtis Martin and Vinny Testaverde on past performance and put themselves in cap hell for the better part of a decade. They need to pay Pouha for the level of performance they think they can get from him over the duration of the contact.
If we somehow land Franklin I could live without Pouha. Otherwise I don't see anyone on the list who is a suitable replacement for one of our best defensive players.

I like Pouha very much. You have to assume other teams know he's one of the few players on the Jets that is generally underrated, though. Some other team is likely to make a run at him, I think.
He's a good player and a leader on our DL, I hope he comes back. If not both Garay and Green played for Rex... one of them might come back. DeVito can also play some NT. Oh btw it's Ropati not whatever it is you wrote
this seems positive - this is a guy that has worked with the Jets recently and got deals done with little drama
^This. Pouha is not only a rock in the middle of our line but is one of the more steady personalities in the lockeer room. I don't think there is a more important Jet to resign this offseason.
