I just don't see him becoming a Jet. Texans or 49ers would probably be his first choices. Both are serious SB contenders needing just top QB.
Keep telling yourself that! I already named two teams better (Texans, 49ers) who should have interest.
They are both prime candidates, I think if the Texans can find a desperate enough suitor for Shaub, the Colts will be in a lot of trouble. The problem with San Fran is the pathetic playing surface. He loves precision routes and that field is a detriment.
49ers have clarified they are staying with Smith, no chance. If the Texans are open to getting him then they are the best team. There havent been any signs of them pursuing him, I guess we will see in the coming days. That would be a real foot right up Israys ass tho if he went to the Texans and won championships.
Because adam shefter's "sources" say he would take an incentive laden contract for little ofr no guaranteed money... I'll believe it when Manning actually says it himself.
Well hopefully the Redskins sign him, just so we never have to see him again (unless in the Super Bowl)
The 49ers haven't exactly been beating Smith's door down to get a contract done. Maybe they were waiting to see how this turned out?
I find myself in a difficult position. I am in position to warn a Patriots fan who has made trollish posts on this forum against responding to a Jets fan making trollish posts on this forum. It's like when Superman got too close to the red kryptonite. I'm about to start flicking peanuts through whiskey bottles.
Kurt Warner says the #1 spot for Peyton is the New York Jets. He said it on NFL Network. Kurt said it would be good for Sanchez, it would be similar to Warner-Eli. I doubt we could keep Sanchez tho, but nevertheless...
I dont want manning sanchez is my dude. this move would set the franchise back a decade. he's not a long term solution
Not a decade. Maybe 5 seasons. Season 1: Manning comes in and the Jets don't win a Super Bowl for any number of reasons. Season 2: Manning still here but at a lesser effectiveness due to age/wear and tear. Season 3: Jets find replacement QB. Season 4: Replacement QB either works out or doesn't. Season 5: Either another reset or a Super Bowl run.
Even if the Jets win a Super Bowl, they will be reset within 5 seasons. The only thing the Super Bowl could do is convince Woody/Tanny that big moves don't need to be made and the Jets fill up their team with depth.
Tannenbaum would be run out the door by the end of season 2. It could very well pan out that way but I'm sure he's not thinking of it going down like that.
After what happened during that Aso BS last year, I wouldn't be suprised if a team who wasn't linked to Manning came him and signed him.
A QB is much different than a CB though. You usually don't have big money tied up in the CB position already where as you almost always have big money tied into the QB position. But I do see where a team that doesn't have a QB as a "need" could just throw money at Peyton.
You could say that about every other team gunning for his service in the Fins, Cards, Seahawks, Redskins. The only teams in better position looking at him would be the Chiefs, 49ers sticking with Smith(that could change quick), or maybe the Titans (front office denied it). This past season I kept thinking to myself "Man, if only we had Brady." Next thing you know Peyton Manning is on the market and we have a chance to let Rex run the Defense with Peyton freaking Manning as our QB while adding a fresh batch of rookies, Peyton's buddies from Indy and some minimum salaried free agents we have a shot at something special. Not sure how that leaves quarterback position in 2-4 years but did we really like Sanchez that much? He's become our little brother we have to stick up for when discussing the Jets idk if it's worth giving up the shot of a ring to keep him around.
If the Jets win a Super Bowl the current management team wins no matter what happens after that. We might suffer through a few down seasons and see the management team replaced in the process but there's no question that a Super Bowl win is a win for the fans and the franchise. My gut tells me the Jets have a major house cleaning coming whether they get Peyton Manning or not. If they get him it will likely be because he's a dead end for the franchise, much like Brett Favre was. If they don't get him it will be because the franchise doesn't really have enough talent to win a Super Bowl at this point and the failure to get Manning when he was free counts against them even though getting him likely would make no difference. The last 5 seasons have left the team management in a Catch-22. They missed the last window because the QB was too old/injured and then too young/inexperienced to completely capitalize on the 2008 to 2010 period when they might have won it. Now in 2011 and 2012 and likely 2013 the team just does not have the fundamental talent to compete with the elites. Life is not fair.
