Can explain WTF is going on with the Sanchez Extension ,the only reason we got to 2 AFC championships games was because of Our D ,Mark was carried for 2 seasons ,the guy is a mediocre QB at best ,this has to be the strangest move in franchise history ,and thats saying something ,name any team that would take Sanchez on the same deal ? NONE i.m.o .. Phins ,pats and bills fans will be shaking in their boots at this Extraordinary move .. With laughter Not fear ..
At some point, we Jets' fans need to put aside our disappointment and support Sanchez. He is our starting QB whether you like it or not, so why not be positive and hope for the best? The only gain to being negative is to try to force the front office into making a move...they have clearly shown that they are not going to make a move, so being negative is now pointless.
well cant explain and it for sure is not the strangest move in team history...... the jets are overpaying for his services but also paying for the EXPECTED improvement and maturity. now that is a very risky proposition in any venture so u will get critics and supporters everywhere. thru the years the bipolar jet fan has seen marino, kelly, brady 2x/year and yearns for their own QB to fit in with those names. as much as some may try its very likely not gonna happen with MS. they need to build the team around him as best as possible and hope he can become less erratic in the pocket and more aggressive throwing the ball. easier said than done but thats what being a stud QB is all about.
Im sorry ,Ive stood for Mark for 3 years I am not knocking the guy ,I am saying at best He is a mediocre QB thats it ,Maturity ? This is not the way forward I.M.O as for the money involved crazy i.m.o Phins and Bills are improving teams we will do very well to make the play offs next year ,the way forward was Peyton with mark as back up ,if he didnt like it let him go ,if your looking for maturity you will get none better then serving under a class QB ..
Yeah. Too many Sanchez threads now, this one should now become "The Official Gang Green Pictures of Cats Thread".
There will be a whole lot more threads 3/4 weeks into next season .. wonder how the season ticket sales will hold up this year ..
I've heard the explanations offered for this move, that it is freeing up cap space, this year. I don't doubt that aspect, if one were to look at it in a vacuum, is a good thing. But at what cost? I've also heard the explanation this move does not add significantly to the cost of paying Sanchez i a worst case scenario where he shows no improvement. But it does add to that cost. In general terms, what has happened is the Jets have guaranteed Sanchez's pay through 2013. And freeing up cap space this year. Now, remember the discussion about how Tanny and Rex have their futures with the team tied into Sanchez? I have questioned that being as so clear, but let's assume that it is true. So the Jets make a little noise about Manning, but it's clear they were never really in his plans. Manning is one move, maybe not the only one, but it is one, that would have allowed Tanny to basically get a fresh start, free of having to justify the team's move to get Sanchez, and the high cost of Sanchez. Much like getting Favre allowed the Jets to cut through the fanbase debate about Chad. Much like Denver also wants Manning to defuse the Tebow situation. So now that easy answer to the Sanchez dilemma is gone. So Tanny must feel he has no politically acceptable options right now, other than to stick with Sanchez. I see the contract extension as a doubling down, trading cap space this year for adding another guaranteed year to Sanchez. It's a defensive position, in effect. Maybe the additional cap space can be used to improve the team THIS year, but at the expense of being on the hook to Sanchez an additional year, when there is no evidence whatsoever to expect that Sanchez will become appreciably better these next two years. In short, Tanny has deepened the team's questionable investment in Sanchez. And here's the other thing - Woody had to have approved this deal. I am increasingly skeptical the Jets can win an SB as long as Woody is the owner.
These whiners need to get over it. Yes, it is true that you are SLIGHTLY more commited to Sanchez in the SHORT term (1-2 years) but realistically he wasn't being cut this year anyway and he was owed 14.25MIL vs the cap. For 2.25MIL extra the Jets bought 6.4MIL in cap space THIS year but they increase thier commitment to him in 2013 by 3MIL bucks over what he was scheduled to make on his rookie deal. Bottom line that people don't understand is that this changes very little. He originally signed a 5 year deal out of USC where he would be a UFA after 2013. The Jets can still cut him after 2013 with no penalty or cap hit just as if his rookie deal expired. This is a glorified restructuring as Florio said. In order to get the cap savings you had to add years to amortize the new bonus and those three years offer protection to the team NOT Sanchez. The TEAM decides wheter to pick up those 3 option years. The TEAM will have no penalty if they decide to cut him. Sanchez' base salary was 11.25MIL this year so they took 8MIL of it and amortized it over 5 years so they can get cap savings this season. The final 3 years offer no guarantees and the Jets can cut him with no penalty.
I think the bigger question should be how did the FO allow Turnstyle Hunter to become the 10th highest salary on the team. The fact that he's even on this list makes me sick to my stomach. "David Harris -- $9.9 M Santonio Holmes -- $7.75 M Darrelle Revis -- $4.5 M Bart Scott -- $4.2 M Antonio Cromartie -- $3.8 M Mark Sanchez -- $3.25 M (new contract) Calvin Pace -- $3.09 M Dustin Keller -- $3.05 M Brandon Moore -- $2.75 M Wayne Hunter -- $2.45 M" Can someone please explain to me why we left ourselves on the hook for that kind of salary for a guy that we proved last year can't hack it? Is there really that little faith in King Ugly? People please stop bitching about the Sanchez extension. Best move Tanny has made in a long time. If he sucks next year we're stuck with him for 2013 ( which we already were ) but now with a better chance to trade him as a back up to some needy team because we axed most of his guaranteed money from the back of his contract to make it more trade friendly.
While I don't mean to sound like I thought there was a substantial likelihood of the Jets bringing in another Qb to either serve as a real backup or even to compete with Sanchez, that is out the window now, this year for sure, and probably next as well. No Qb who has ANY chance of starting in the NFL will come to the Jets now after what the Jets did to his contract. Everyone will know the only way Sanchez does not start is if he gets hurt. And while I agree it was likely that Sanchez was to have been the starter in any event in this coming year, that situation is now both solidified, in effect confirmed, and extended into 2013, for the most part. It ties the Jets even more to a Qb about whom there are many unanswered questions. It rewards him for a performance that did not deserve to be rewarded. It fits with the complaint that Sanchez is coddled, and coddles him even more. Just like everyone else here, homers and skeptics alike, I don't know what is actually going to happen, but I have grave doubts that this approach will work.
The Bottom line is HE IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH .be it 1 2 or 5 years ,plenty in the locker room will be of the same opinion .. but hey there is a winner out of all this and thats Mark and g luck to him ..Spend it wisely
He didn't even make that much more $ off this deal. I heard ~2.5Mil somewhere. And as my previous post stated. This just made him easier to get rid of in the final years of his contract,.. or If he ends up turning it around we have him for cheap for an additional 3 years. Remove Head from A$$ then Post. In that order.
So here are U options. Go sit in a corner & cry Moan & groan cause there is nothing U can do to change it Hope that he turns into the next Tom Brady even though you think that is not possible with Sporano as his OC Hope that he we get a solid OL so he will have the time necessary for him to make that snap decision to chuck the rock
I'm just going through all these posts this morning trying to understand what transpired over the weekend with regards to this extension and like Big Blocker I still don't understand what we gained by this. Sure we gained cap space this year, but couldn't that have been done with a simple restructuring to guarantee his salary this year? Why an extension? You mentioned that the team increased their commitment to him by "only" 3 million in 2013; but didn't they also guarantee it which wasn't part of the original deal? Sure they added some team valued later years, but we all know if Sanchez starts lighting it up he will be looking to redo the contract to a more suitable number and at that point would have all of the leverage. Maybe I'm still missing something, but I still don't see this as a good thing. If he sucks this year we now have no way out until after 2013. Prior to this we could have cut bait after this year. Oh well, here's hoping it works out...
