"Citing a league source, the Sacramento Bee reports that restricted free agent Mike Wallace is searching for a long-term contract in excess of the eight-year, $120 million deal signed by Larry Fitzgerald last August. The Bee's Matt Barrows has been tracking the situation because the team he covers -- the 49ers -- made an inquiry about signing Wallace to an offer sheet. It's not happening if he insists on becoming one of the top three highest paid receivers in football. (Calvin Johnson and Fitzgerald are Nos. 1 and 2.) Wallace may still leave Pittsburgh if his asking price comes down, but the Steelers couldn't lock him up long term, either, on that lofty of a demand."
if the Niners want to spend nearly 1/3 of their salary cap on Manning and Wallace, more power to them
Hopefully the pats bite so they get put into cap hell. And lose a first rounder. Revis can handle Wallace.
Pats WR corps is set with Welker, Lloyd, Branch and then the Gronk/Hernandez combo. That's a legit set of weapons for Shithead to work with -not that he even needs it. Wallace is sick but obviously thinks he's better than he is. I was wondering why nobody had signed him, now we know why. Get real.
I like the fact that he, thus far, seems unwilling to take a pay cut to play with a winning team. Can only help the Jets
helps to explain why no-one has come in for him as if i was picking with a 1st round pick in the 20's and needed a receiver I would get Wallace in a minute (if the contract was reasonable)
Absolutely no reason for the Jets to go after Wallace. Some reasons- not enough cap space team wants to be a run-heavy outfit 1st and 2nd string QBs are highly inaccurate the Jets already have an expensive WR The Jets need a low cost WR who would be happy to start 16 games and catch only 40 passes
That's absurd! He was like 11th in the league in receiving. Not a wise time to demand big bucks. I know they had oline problems as well so that's part of it. But seriously, Fitzgerald beat him out with Kevin Kolb throwing to him. He has no reason to demand that kind of money. Steelers definitely can't afford Wallace, they only have like 8 million in cap room. They're waiting patiently for a team to make a move, so they know how to spend the money. Pittsburgh is in big trouble this year.
So he'll wind up back on the Steelers for the amount of the tender when nobody else makes him an offer to bring to them. One of the entertaining things about watching unbridled hubris is knowing that in the end the process that produced it always plays out and brings the guy back to earth.
he meant Manningham I did not get it at first, either. Like, did this guy really not know Manning signed with Denver already?

If Fitzgerald is making around $15 million a year, and Wallace wants that kind of money and more, then Peyton is making $19-20 million or so, that's a large chunk of the cap invested in 2 players. The cap is only scheduled to be $120 million or so. $35-38 million is almost 1/3 of the total cap.
Sure enough. My brain is fried with all the Peyton/Tebow mania this week. My apologies. Either way, I don't think Wallace has earned Larry Fitzgerald money yet, and the Niners are still overpaying for Alex Smith.
something that popped into my head: they were both #1 overall picks, but one of them almost didn't get picked #1. That's right, who would have thought that Peyton almost got picked behind Ryan Leaf and Smith was a clearer #1 pick?
