well Poe, that's a good analogy but my reasons for disappointment are purely selfish, as I did not want to brood all weekend like I am now, as i was looking forward to tomorrow night with alot of hope, now there's not much to jump and shout about.
the beach is just down the road though, that doesn't suck in any way.

On the one hand, the Rangers will be contenders for years to come with all of their young talent, a top 5 coach, and a top 3 goalie.

On the other hand, this was the easiest chance at the Cup that they will ever get. They'll never get another shot to win the whole thing without facing anyone higher than a 6 seed; next year they'll probably have to go through the other beasts of the East (Pittsburgh, Boston, etc.)

That is another reason I am upset, but honestly if you notice now...The seedings are useless for the NHL playoffs. Everyone has a shot and that is kinda another basis for that post I made above. How many President's Cup winners are there too?

    Its very whacky...party hits NHL

I'd argue Ottawa was a tough matchup for us and the Caps were a completely different team from their 7 seed. Holtby played out of his mind and their new system made them a mirror image of ourselves, except they Have Ovie, Semin, and Backstrom to boot. We would have had an easier time with Boston, Philly, and Florida.

if i were not an accomplished guitar player, i'd seriously debate trading a finger for a game 7 tonight.

Let's face it - the Rangers were very fortunate to get by the Caps. The Caps blew numerous chances to win game 4 in OT and the way the Rangers won game 5 was nothing short of miraculous.

Gotta give the Rangers props for having the best season in a long time. They have very good tools to work with now, the issue with the Rangers is that their offense can't match their defense. You gotta score goals. I liked the new defensive style Rangers this year, but they need to do something to spark that O. Tons and tons of close games. Henrick was one of the best goaltenders in the league this year.

They were lucky to get by Ottawa. Their offense is embarrassing, and I put that most on Tortorella then anyone else. Things need to change for next season, maybe a new assistant coach

I don't think you can really separate Henrik, Rinne, and Quick, but Lundqvist has as good of a claim to "best goalie" as anyone.

It's not that cut and dry. He didn't lead a single statistical category.

Another snippet that makes me feel good

"#WinterClassic curse or omen? PIT in 08 WC, won Cup in 09. CHI 09 WC, won Cup in 2010. BOS 2010 WC, won Cup in 2011. #NYR 2012 WC, 2013 Cup?"

Technically he had the best GAA (.930) given Elliott started half as many games as Hank did.

Hey POE..didnt want to quote the whole thing...but that was a great analysis.

Been reading a lot about the horrible horrible Ranger offense. I think we all need to take a chill pill and realize that the above average hockey scorer...not the STARS...the above average hockey scorer...they guy that puts 20-30 goals in the net every year, they do not explode on the scene.

I think many of us look at guys like Boyle...or Dub's...Hags...etc...the Rangers are loaded with potential guys. They are loaded with young star quality defenseman. They do have a very very good Goaltender.

But most importantly, they are loaded with guys that have potential to put 25 up a year...that just didnt happen this year. They showed signs last year..but the growing pains for guys like that are season to season.

I think they have on their roster guys that will start filling the net more often.

Think about the above average goal scorers in the NHL and you will see early inconsistencies throughout. If you think Sather is going to start cap hell, it aint going to happen.

Like POEMAN mentioned above, it was a great growing experience...and this team is about to become very very strong for the next 5 years at least. Alot of it will come from within. Kreider will be a star and the middle of the road...the 4th line that everyone bitched about, is already either on the roster or coming soon.

Tough to buy now but the future looks great.

That's save percentage, not GAA, and while Elliott didn't start enough to warrant award consideration, he did play enough for his season stats to qualify, as did Cory Schneider.

Thanks man...I was just trying to look at the big picture and compared to most sports teams in NY, even the Jets. The Rangers have the brightest future...It was great to see the young guys grow and experience the big games...We will have a big summer here, with all of the labor talks and what not, Sather has to make a big acquisition if the cap goes up a little. It is obvious we lack pure scorers maybe there are a couple of shrewd moves in the works.

I think Fedotenko, Stralman, Zuccarello are probably gone. I'd like a veteran presence on this team, like a Shane Doan or Ray Whitney
