Thought this was pretty good and insightful. Mark has his head screwed on straight, for now, by all appearances. http://sports.yahoo.com/news/nfl--q-a-with-mark-sanchez.html;_ylt=Al0bu6gW1hP96UeS6ekBV9FDubYF
Thanks. Nice read. Sanchez is really a nice guy. I am rooting for him. So last year's problem, in part, is attributed to his footwork & strength. Interesting. I am glad that he had a chance to spend time with CP.
"Cole: So what happened with your footwork? Sanchez: I took a couple of shots early in the season and I wasn't able to lift as hard during the season as I wanted to. Don't get me wrong, I'm not an Olympic lifter. But at the same time, you need some strength. By the end of the season, I was down to 218-220 pounds and I'm usually 225-230 pounds plus. I just didn't have it. I was trying to throw too much with just my arm and my upper body, I wasn't using my legs enough and I just wasn't as sound physically as I should be and it showed." Classy guy not calling out the o-line for nearly getting him killed a couple of dozen times are his receivers not getting separation. Excellent read. Gotta love Chad.
I've never heard Sanchez say anything but "It's my fault." That's what he does. He's going to be a really great leader some day when things come together and he'll probably QB a couple of Super Bowl wins.
This is a great answer " In general, as an offense, we didn't have big-play ability because we didn't make the routine plays that open up the big plays. So when you're third-and-10, that's not when big plays happen. They come on second-and-short when you're moving the sticks."
That's an interesting tidbit that he was a little injured early and unable to lift as much to keep his strength where it needed to be.
He got hit hard in the Ravens game, blindsided a couple of times. Those were on the left side of the line not Hunter. I think having Mangold out and taking the physical abuse that he did in the process is what really sealed the deal last year. Having the pain gremlin sitting in the back of your mind all the time can't be good as an NFL QB because when you do get hit from the blindside there's nothing you can do to mitigate the damage.
He's saying all the right things, for sure. Let's just hope that translates into doing the right things on the field.
The best thing the Jets can do is continue to allow him to grow and build around him. If the Jets let him walk after another season of minor rather than major growth it'll be the biggest mistake this team has made in a looooooooong time.
He's a physical beast, no doubt about that. Sanchez makes it easy to root for him off the field. He says all the right things always (kind of like Tebow). Would love it if he took a step forward, it was obvious the beating he took all year caught up to him.
These guys will change the way the NFL looks at QB play. Just like MLB. You need more than a starter.......the fourth quarter will become the place for the reliever/ backup guy in the NFL. The Jets will break the mold.
