Wilkerson's floor is a big strong high motor guy w/ great wingspan to control the edge in the running game & push the pocket in the passing game. His ceiling is he learns to use those freakishly long arms as well as his ability to bend to routinely get off blocks & become a playmaker.
Id like to see what he could do if he shed 10-15 pounds to be more suited to rush the passer in thr 4-3. Its tough to be a sack master as a 3-4 DE
1. I think he was #3 in terms of tackles for loss as a 3-4 DE. You're telling me that's not dominant, right? 2. I've seen plenty of double-teaming and even triple-teaming going on against him - and this kid is a bare rookie. You're telling me you didn't see any of that, right? I just don't know what you guys watched last year.
Wilkerson is a monster. If Coples is any improvement over DeVito and Dixon, we can expect a lot of backfield disruption.
He was good last year, better than I would have expected him to be. He wasn't dominant. There was not a single game I can recall where he was impacting the offense enough for me to think of him as dominant. He had a lot of flashes where you could see he was capable. How does saying he wasn't dominant take away from anything he did last year?
Couples getting all the attention Wilk should have a nice chip on his shoulder to prove who is the REAL Jets DL of the future if not compete for the stats to prove it
Please tell us how you have reached your conclusion on Big Mo. I urge you to fax your credentials to Rex and T. They obviously do not know as much about NFL personnel as you do. Why not try to get a job with them so you can show them the way? The Jets need to win a super Bowl and since they can not draft well they need a person like you with such outstanding ability in that area.
this x1000 pretty much sums it up. he also moves extremely well laterally for someone his size chasing down the ball away from his play side.
By the way, how does one become "dominant" in a shorts and t-shirt practice. What exactly can an offensive line man do to stop a defensive lineman in a "no contact" drill???? This assessment has about the same validity as saying Landry was dominant because when he flexed his bicep, none of the other safeties could match his girth. What I don't understand is why the Jets coaching staff feels the need to over hype their players constantly, especially when they aren't doing anything in particular that has much to do with actually playing the game of football. What is the value in doing it. Why not let the media. so called "experts" and fans make these valueless judgments, and let the respective coaches concentrate on installing their playbooks and getting ready for TC. Is the Jets' inferiority complex so institutionalized that they need to continually brag about their "prowess" just to justify their existence next to the "other" team in town, and their arch rival within their own division. BTW- excuse me. I have to go and die now.
Nah, it couldn't be, "the Dirk" only pontificates on OTHER peoples' mistakes. "the Dirk" is like the other great judgement makers in human history. Men like Jeus, Mohammed, Judge Dredd, Tebow, and Rex....he's blameless and without fault just like them. The rest of us just have to deal with it.
i think the big argument here centralizes around what we define as dominant. do we consider dominant as a guy who constantly gets sacks and is the center of attention of a defense or do we consider dominance a guy who isn't in the spotlight, but he is the 3rd best DE in a 3-4 as a rookie. i think thats the argument here. my opinion is that mo was dominant last year as he did more than hold his own and took on 2-3 blocks a game. he wasn't in the spotlight because he wasn't getting big time sacks, but he was still dominant. now concerning next year i could see him become the dominant PLAYMAKER where hes getting sacks a lot and everyone knows his name.
I wouldn't make that claim, because he wasn't. He did have the 3rd most TFL's, but he wasn't nearly consistent enough to be ranked that highly.
