Love the respect Rex Ryan gets http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap10...r-rankings-texans-niners-elite?module=HP11_cp At least 6 teams they think are straight up better than our defense, and several more scrub ones in the same category as us. Even though giants were 27th in defense last year, seahawks 9th And the Ravens/Texans both lost the best defensive players on their teams Im surprised they dont have the Pats ranked above us
There is nothing wrong with this, this defense has a lot to prove imo. They have been slipping harder and harder each year. First is was the tightend problem, then last year we couldnt stop the run that well either.
Oh please last year we had some shitty injuries and no young depth. This defense is completely infused with young talent, and the older vets are healthy/top shape now. Plus the best defensive mind in the league at head coach. Knocking us as a playoff contender I can get because our offense is FULL of questions. But considering us a 2nd or 3rd tier defense is absurd
Only a couple of teams really ran on us. Losing BT really hurt because we had no one who could set an edge. Hopefully with Scott losing weight, a healthy Thomas, and Davis we will have more speed to seal the edges. Our D without terrible injuries will always be a top 7 D. More likely to be top 4.
Just the way I see it: Bart Scott and Bryan Thomas are both still starting. 31 and 33 years old, and just because we hear that Bart is faster in TC, it is a safer bet to assume hes still getting older and slower until he proves it in a game. 2 Strong safeties starting that are both weak in coverage. No true pass rusher I think the question marks are legit. Respect is earned on the field and the last we saw of the Jets D, there was definitely some reason to be concerned.
At some point during the 2010 season it seemed as if the code to the heavy blitz version of ryans defense was cracked. He did throw a nice curve ball in the playoffs that year by playing less aggressively, blitzing less and playing more zone. That really caught the pats and colts off guard. He never really got the defense to hum like it was in 2009 and parts of 2010 last year. I am excited to see what the defense looks like this year with the focus on speed, and upgrades to the pass rush & safeties, but I get why people don't see the Jets as an elite defense going into the season.
True they're both starting, but only on running downs/3-4 We have both their replacements for passing situations and or the 4-3. Absolutely, but this is the best safety corp the Jets have had under Rex Ryan, period, I mean last year it was Pool + Smith + some guy who worked on trains. A drastic improvement without question The Jets have had the 1st, 3rd, and 5th ranked defenses in the league under Rex Ryan, which carried them to back to back AFCCG in spite of having a drastically under-performing offense The only team who has had a better track record since Rex landed on the Jets was the Steelers. And if it wasnt for last years injuries (Leonhard, Thomas, Scott) the Jets might just be better. This is a defense that absolutely deserves some respect, and will continue to be elite as long as Rex is our HC
You have no idea how wrong you're gonna be if your doubting this defense. It was eye opening in person.
The Jets defense is putting a lot of faith in the linebackers and safeties to stay healthy. If that happens, though, they'll be great. P.S. Gregg Rosenthal is, and always has been, an idiot.
The Jets defense can be elite! Iv seen it personally! The Jets defense from Last year was not Elite at all and failed to come up with some major key stops in multiple games. One game of mention was that Denver game. One stop and last season would have been different. This year the Jets D will be back. Young talent flying all around the field ..watch!
Umm obviously our defense should be top 7, but when I say "prove", I want this defense to prove its top 3, like feared defense.
Someone needs to send this to Rex. If Coples and Davis can provide an immediate impact, and if Maybin progresses, then this Defense will be elite and probably the best in the league.
Letting Green Ellis run down our throat when we knew they were running was pathetic. Then the Tebow drive.....pathetic. Or how about the Jets defense playing great for the first 29 minutes against the Patriots at home, we were about to go into halftime tied 9-9, instead they gave up a TD when the Patriots were actually playing for a FG, yet things broke and they scored the TD.
were elite? are elite? jk we're elite. and to be fair he only argued that 4 teams are definitively better at defense than the Jets.
I still think the Ravens and 49ers are better. We can be better than the Steelers and Texans if things go right.
The Jets defense has been a top 5 defense in the last 3 years (albiet going from 1 to 3 to 5) Not only have we upgraded this year both in the draft and FA (safety's) but many of our younger players are rising stars and will make a huge impact this year (Maybin, Wilkerson). We have the best CB tandem in the league and are in the midst of developing a decent pass rush. Add that to Rex's genius scheming and the new emphasis on speed and you get a huge improvement from last year. As long as the team stays healthy, the Jets should have a top 3 defense this year in both points allowed and yards allowed.
