It's no secret anymore. Last game made it obvious, and the Jets coaches know that they can't go into the season with RT constantly holding us back. Who, in your opinion, would be worth trading to bring in a decent to premium RT? Signing somebody is probably not a option based on our cap, plus the quality of unsigned FAs at this point is pretty low. I'm not saying we need an all pro, just somebody above average who can get it done in pass protection and run blocking. The way I see it, the offense is off limits, although you could see a package with Hunter / Howard included. The only possible way to bring in somebody decent is to sacrifice part of our D. As much as I don't want to do that, our defense is way above average and certainly is not the problem. We need our offense to put points up without having to worry about Sanchez getting hurt. After looking at all the options, I'm going to say Pou'ha and Bart Scott would be worth sacrificing. Ellis has looked good against 1s thus far and I think he'll be ready to start pretty soon. If we could throw a package together like Pou'ha / Hunter / Scott (or draft pick), it should be enough to get a premium RT and not take a big step back on defense. Bart Scott might be a bit early, though because he's looked decent and we need him until Demario develops. I lean to a draft pick instead of him. Are there any teams right now in desperate need of a NT / LB? These are just some ideas I had. What do you guys think?
Greene Kyle Wilson Pouha DeVito Keller These are the guys, I'd think would be easiest to trade, in terms of contract situations and value. I'd trade Holmes and Cromartie in a second if I had buyers.
I don't think we really have much for players to trade that don't give us a cap hit. Slauson & Wilson might be our most desirable trade chips that we can afford to trade. Pouha would result in a cap hit of over 2 million in dead money. http://nyjetscap.com/salary.html (sort by cap savings if cut) I think it would probably be draft picks if we went for a trade. edit: Shit, missed Keller - that's a good one so long as we find a blocking TE too. missed Moore too ... if we could move him for a RT that would be ideal.
Seriously at this point Hunter is such a liability for the offense I wouldn't mind giving up a play maker for the Jets to acquire a competent right tackle. If the line fails then Sanchez and the offense will fail.
A trade probably isn't going to happen because no team in football has 3 decent tackles, let alone the 4 you'd really want before you let one of them go right now. No team is going to trade a starting tackle at this point unless the Jets just overload a deal so dramatically that they can't say no. No team is likely to trade their swing tackle either, assuming that guy is good enough to be worth trading for as a starter. The Jets best options at this point are to look at the pool of 30+ UFA's and see if anybody would be an upgrade over Hunter and Howard or to play the season and deal with the fact that 8 or 9 wins is the ceiling with a turnstile at RT. Hopefully if they do that we don't go 4-12 or 5-11.
I'd rather not give up Keller, he's a valuable passing weapon for Sanchez. Then again, at this point RT is such a liability that it may be necessary. I'd rather trade a pick for a decent starting RT. I'd give up as a high as a 2nd rounder if we can find someone worthy of it. Regardless, something must be done.
I agree with everyone who said draft picks were probably our best bet, but I'd have no qualms with giving up Wilson/Greene. I wouldn't want to give up Keller, DeVito or Pouha.
I am pretty sure that there will be a tackle or 2 released next week and I am sure that the teams releasing those guys would rather get a pick back rather than just dump a player for nothing',,,,,,,,,burn up the phone lines and get it done,,it should have been done 6 months ago but better late than never ! Ps can someone explain to me why we gave Wayne Hunter 2 million plus dollars to stay here this year ?
Who is selling in the first place? And who's selling who? Isn't that the first order of business? I haven't seen a good RT in the market since Winston whizzed by.
you guys are nuts...greene for a premier right tackle? Sure let's plug one hole by filling another. Now we have an O-line that can protect a QB and nobody to run it The key is finding somebody serviceable on the cheap without sacrificing anything. We can't afford "elite"
sione pouha seems like a big part of the locker room and is a leader so I wouldn't want to trade him. I'd trade kyle wilson, cromartie, draft picks, and maybe shonn greene. or tebow
The problem is that cheap, serviceable guys generally have jobs by now. The alternative, which is to try to bring in a guy who's serviceable but only on the market because he's over 30 and got cut somewhere and is now going to have to play for a fifth of the money he made last year, is not all that appealing. Nothing like signing a guy who is pre-malcontented to come in to the Jets clubhouse right now. Most of the wounds the Jets are suffering at the moment are self-inflicted. They need to be very careful about exactly where they are aiming before they squeeze another shot off at their foot.
Dustin Keller He's the only one I can think of that would be reasonable trade bait and not a huge loss to this team. I understand the Jets can't keep changing Sanchez's receivers however if the Jets don't plan on keeping him around anyway due to the fact that they want a bigger blocking presence at the TE position then now might be a great time to strike and get something for him.
Keller is absolutely off limits. If Sanchez has anything resembling a security blanket, it's Keller. The only guy who hasn't been among the revolving door of receivers.
