How do you fire a GM, but not get rid of the coach? It's inevitable. Sure you can demote Tanny to a cap specialists and hire someone within, but I have no confidence in anyone making any decisions with the Jets right now. If you go outside and look for a new GM, a new GM tends to want their own coach.

Is this serious? The 2 don't have to go hand in hand. You can easily fire the GM and retain the coach.

It's not that easy, you should know that a new GM always looks to bring in their own staff, that can easily include the coach. If the GM doesn't have the option to select his own coach (by some chance lets say he doesn't like Rex) then why would the GM accept the position?

I mean an example was the Raiders just recently, Raiders were actually playing well under Hue Jackson, this off-season a new GM comes in fires Hue Jackson and Palmer looks like crap with a new coaching staff. Raiders are nothing like the team we saw last year

that's because most GM's are hired into situations with coaches in place with little to no significant accomplishments. it wouldn't be hard to find a capable GM who is smart enough to recognize, at the least, Rex's accomplishments, and believe that with his own ability as GM and Rex's ability as coach they can turn the Jets back into the team that went to 2 straight AFC Championships.

there are more reasons to why coaches get fired when a new GM is hired beyond just the new GM wanting to make an arbitrary change. that change in coach is based on not believing the coach in place is good enough. Rex has done enough in 4 years to convince any new GM he is worth keeping.

With the way his team quit on him last game, and losing control of the locker room last year, his inability to get a good pass rusher here in 4 years now, terrible clock management, inept offense for 4 years now, i highly doubt he would be first in line for most teams. He could flame out and be another Mangini. Theres a reason Baltimore passed on the guy...

The Jets took a bath on the price-cutting of PSLs and lack of ST sales. Woody told MT the last 2 years that they couldn't go big in FA.

MT is the one who makes the decisions about the draft, along with Terry Bradway. Rex already told you he didn't want Stephen Hill (2nd round).

This debacle is CLEARLY on MT. This team has NO talent -- Jet Haters and Jet Fans alike agree on that. All the experts on NFL Network, ESPN, WFAN, ESPN 98.7 -- all say the Jets have a shortage of talent.

Joe Namath, who knows something about QB'ing, says that he's not sure Brady or Manning in their prime could throw for much yardage with the line, lack of running game, and WR's.

With all due respect, I have to really disagree with a lot of this.

    1. Yeah...he has a major role in who is OC is...major. No GM can force an OC on an HC. You think Tanny forced Sparano on Rex? No way. Rex's biggest fault is that the worst salesman in the world could sell him a broken iron.

    2. Teach speed? Not sure what you mean. Rex decided that the one person he needed to bring his famed Raven defense to the Jets was Bart Scott. Scott has shown since he has been here that he was carried by a great defense..and was nothing better than an above average linebacker. Sadly, Rex was his coach and thought he would be a savior.

    3. Whether Rex was told to hold on to Hunter or God told him to hold on to Hunter...Rex is the head coach...and Rex saw enough good things in him last year not to plead for a replacement. The rest of the world saw shit...but Rex put his job on the line by bringing him back.

    4. which goes a bit with 3....and I totally agree with you. Tanny is taking some shit but not enough. Tanny is the biggest joke of a GM. He and Rex are a lot alike. They both think they are smarter than everyone else. They believe they can nickname a lower pick the terminator before he ever plays a down and spend half of the time on an HBO special saying "oh man..did you see that!! Did you see terminator light him up!!"

There are so many examples of Tanny being a stupid fucking gambler its not funny. He did it one year at left guard and almost got all of his qb's killed. He did it this year at right tackle. He did with his punters...his kickers...his running backs..his wide receivers...he did at the qb position. They thought they were smarter than everyone else by bringing in Tebow because they would do things with Tebow that no person God ever created would ever dream of doing.

But the bottom line is that Rex is the head coach and he does have a say in personal. He did tell us Gholston was not only saveable but would flourish. The list goes on and on about Rex opening up his big mouth about being the guy to turn around a bunch of shit players careers.

The only thing I see here is a total disaster. Total disaster. He misread his clubhouse last year...MISREAD HIS CLUBHOUSE...tell me a coach that ever admitted that and saved his job. Terry Francona, who gave the Red Sox several championships, didnt survive that.

No coach who ever admitted he had no pulse on his locker room..especially a players coach...ever survived with their job. Thats usually the last line while they are tearing up during their "Im fired" news conference.

I guess you're right. Point the finger at Rex.

I blame REX, for being one of the best coaches this franchise has had.
I blame REX, for taking a rookie QB to the AFC title game, and then back again the next year
I blame REX, for us being 2-0 in the division
I blame REX, for having the most playoff wins of any Jets head coach

What an asshole. Fire this clown. The season's over.

are you out of ur mind? his old man got one shot and if this circus ends on the same note its on now rex will never get another hc shot...we should he? whats he done to earn that? amazing how jets fans raise this guy to a status he's not close to nor earned...theres a reason the ravens passed him by...teams arent stupid they see rex as what he is, which is a loudmouth bully and glorified d coordinator, just like his whole family

Rex was able to have early success because he sold his goods to the players and they bought it. Sports is filled with coaches who have quick success but have no ability to be in it for the long haul.

What Rex did the first couple years was incredible. But thats over. If anyone cant stare at last year and what has happened to the team this year and say a new trend has formed..from the type of players they bring to the type of players they never bring in..then lets just say we disagree.

And yeah..its the NFL...and nothing would shock me if the Jets beat the Texans this week. All im saying is over the long haul..this team and the way its run..from the owner to the HC..is starting to look like a farce. And of course I hope Im wrong..but there is real shitty smell in the air.
