I watched the CAR-DAL, man he looked pathetic, worse than Sanchez has ever looked. Did you watch his post game conference? He looked like me mailed it in. Somebody needs to talk to him or he will be forever lost.

He doesn't seem to be mentally strong and in that regard, he might end up flaming out pretty quickly.

I don't think it's fair to question his mental toughness based on one whiny press conference. This is a guy who won the Heisman and a National Championship while being stalked 24/7 by press due to his pay-for-play scandal, after all.

Newton's got too much talent to close the book on him yet. He's having a brutal sophomore slump, but I have faith that he'll get back on track.

It's not just one whiny press conference. A couple of weeks ago he was sulking on the sideline where Steve Smith called him out. And there were other incidents which has caused MANY to question his mental toughness. Give me a little more credit than to label someone after one incident.

Cam Newton is a fukking crybaby. His success as a rookie got to his head. He cares more about "swag" and pretty boy looks than his play on the field. Also, he needs to lose that ghetto gangsta talk in post game press conferences.

Fair enough. Personally I think there's a difference between being a dick and being mentally weak (T.O. -- one of the worst teammates and best pressure players in football history -- is probably the best all-time example of this.)

Newton's got problems, but in college he played his best football when he was under the brightest spotlight. He hasn't gotten to play in many big games in his brief NFL career, but when the chips are down I wouldn't hesitate to bet on him.

it's so crazy how we annoint guys too quickly and tear them down too quickly. he's still a young, developing QB.

He's been known to tuck tail and run in the face of adversity. He'll need to learn how to deal with it if he's going to succeed.

It's a character defect that can be addressed. Whether he's able to do that is up in the air at this point.

He will be ok he just needs to mentally get it together. And at the end of games he crumbles. Enough opportunities and he will get that worked out. He's got way too much talent to fail imo

As much as some people like to scoff at "intangibles", in the long haul they make a huge difference. Defenses take away what you like to do, what you're good at. The difference is how you can prepare and go at them when things aren't going well.

Well the Panthers now have a scape goat, the fired their GM, Marty Hurney. He did give out horrible contracts and drafted epic bust like Dwayne Jarrett, Jeff Otah and the worst one, Jimmy Clausen.

    Tim Tebow > Jimmy Clausen

Again, I reiterate that he won the freaking Heisman while at the center of one of the biggest college football scandals in recent memory. And, at the height of the craziness, he singlehandedly led Auburn back from a 24-0 halftime deficit on the road in the Iron Bowl.

You say that he's been known to tuck and run, but his history suggests otherwise. As I said earlier, I think that Newton's an asshole, but I don't think that he's mentally weak at all.

Nothing helps an argument like some good old fashioned casual racism.

The heisman is for kids, he is playing in a mans world, grow up and point the finger at yourself for being a contributing factor to the loss. This is not a postgame interview for people magazine.

Throwing coordinators under the bus, calling a female reporter sweetheart, you are not Kanye West.

I believe the expectations were too high for him coming off a fantastic rookie season. Ryan Kalil idiotic claim they're going to win the Super Bowl probably put too much pressure on Cam and this team. But he is 7-15 as a starter, he must win games for people to believe in him as a "Franchise QB".

I wouldn't say he's mentally weak, just extremely immature, his on-field heroics notwithstanding.

His future hall of fame wide receiver thinks he's immature and not displaying leadership.

He had an entire major college administration running point for him and a father he could throw to the wolves allowing him to basically doge any questions of responsibility during the pay to play scandal.

His behavior over the stolen laptop incident suggests he doesn't do well when it comes to accepting responsibility and the spotlight casts him in a negative light.

As I said, his character flaws can be corrected. Whether they will be is very much an open question.

But if they aren't corrected. He will not succeed.
