I followed him every week when he played at Auburn. He is a super talented, yet arrogant, ball player. He loves the spotlight when it is all about him and they're winning, but when he's not getting his way and being held accountable...he pouts. No different than any man if you ask my wife. But in his position, he needs to grow up fast. I still think he'll be a successful/winning QB, but he has some growing up to do, as do others. I don't care about press conference performances after a bad loss, I care about leadership and performance on the field and I haven't seen any.
success in college can be had on talent alone; not in the NFL. great, he came back from 24-0 in a half. that doesn't mean he has the same mental focus when he is playing horribly over a stretch of NFL games as he did with one bad half in college where he knew he was better than everyone else.
Give him another year or two before calling it. This is the first time he has hit playing bad adversity in his career. He has a year to get used it and see where it goes from there. I mean if the Panthers get better, he will get better and the team will get better because of it.
When you look at all the QB's struggling -- and I check the papers and blogs in all the NFL cities -- you realize that 1/2 these guys wouldn't have survived 1 season in NY -- credit to Mark Sanchez. A year ago, 99.9% of GG.com would have traded Sanchez for Newton. And now ?? I wouldn't have last year and I wouldn't this year.
He's had about a dozen of them. And this is in Charlotte, not NY. Totally different.....amateur, no $$$ involved. Much more pressure in NFL than college. Maybe, but his body language makes Sanchez' at his WORST look optimistic !!
He would have already gone Ryan Leaf if he were in NY. I think he can be a very good QB in the NFL but he's going to have to mature quickly. He should also not wear dead goats to press conferences.
Meh, he's going through the sophomore slump. It happens, besides it's not like the Panthers are loaded with talent on offense. I don't think he'll be a bust. He's shown too much thus far, but it's too early to judge.
I agree it's probably way too early too tell, but IMO he has some serious maturity issues. I think this is probably his first real stretch of adversity and how he handles it will go a long way in determining his future.
I do agree with most of the people on this board, it is to early to tell. Though I have to say some of the criticism has gone too far for Cam. Honestly it might be from people trying to prove they are right, kind of like Tebow. People said coming out of collage he will be the next Jamarcus Russell. Yet he had a great rookie season, and now he is in a slump, the detractors are all over him again. A bigger question is with the Newton bashing, where is the Stafford bashing? He is playing like garbage, worse than Newton by a long shot, yet he gets a free pass?
He had a tremendous first year, one of the greatest ever. Now he's had a few bad games and suddenly he's bust? Come on. Definitely needs more time.
