It was a bad call but it didn't really influence the outcome of the game or anything. The game was well and truly over by then anyway.
I'm not blaming officiating for the game guys! This thread is about the state of officiating in the NFL
After the Jets stink it up badly on the field, I can't believe there's a thread here complaining about the officiating. In the long run bad calls will even out. We watch all these replays in super slow motion so of course we catch all their mistakes. Also, if the refs today were perfect the Jets still had no chance.
I get it op. the jets sucked today and that's 8 other threads. The refs in the nfl always give the close calls to a small few. It really starts to look like GODell is looking out for a few teams. Super bowl 40 is a great example of this.
I think Rich Kotite also has a gripe with the officials, who were mainly responsible for his unsuccessful coaching stint with the Jets.
I do agree with the premise that big hits are being called for flags even if they aren't illegal. The refs are looking at the results of hits, not the actual hit. If someone looks to get hard, they throw a flag even if it was a legal hit. If you want to protect the game, make the rule that says you can't hit them hard. Don't have the refs mis enforce the current rule with
I couldn't agree more, this has nothing to do with the Jets or this game. The officiating is maddening in every game. You can't even tackle anymore with fear of a 15 yard penalty anymore. They called one in the Giants game too that was a clean tackle then completely missed a clear helmet to helmet.
Once you said certain QB's receive favoritism from the refs, the readers of your post, including me, read it as you bitching that MS wasn't getting the benefit that other QB's are getting. So, in fact you did open yourself up to the mocking.
The refs were horseshit in the Pats-Bills game as well. Some horrible PI and holding on the Bills in the first quarter, and then they tried to get even by calling tons of personal fouls on the Pats later. Some of the flags for each team were legitimate, but others were certainly not.
Jets get their butts whipped & the offense quits & QB looks like he doesn't give a damn. Then a thread about officiating across the NFL sucks ... the timing is indeed odd. Everyone sees through it. On another note: Only losers complain about referees. We watch all these plays in super-slow-motion but these refs make all calls in real-time. Started the season with replacement refs & everybody was pissed. This is just a damn hard game to ref. These refs have a smaller margin of error than most players on the field.
Mods, Move to the NFL forum so that the Simpletons can categorize their thoughts properly.. Unreal... Thanx
Well I guarantee, OP, you were calling for those frauds when dealing with the replacement refs. At least they had no hands in team's pockets and could call games objectively. Now you're stuck with the corrupted and experienced instead of the non corrupted inexperienced. Congratulations.
What choice do they have with player safety at an all time high. Refs have a happy trigger finger. Not an excuse I know but we don't have a Tom Brady who controls refs byookinv at them.
The thing that annoys me most about the officiating is that they claim all TDs are reviewable but let some slip and don't even bother. If you're going to review all scoring plays, then actually review them! Don't just say it's legit when it's not even close to conclusive. They gave Luck a freebie, I guess he's the new NFL golden child. This isn't the first time it's happened either. They need to cease and desist with that immediately.
Here is one of my favorites from yesterday that nobody noticed. (cant remember the game but think it was SF vs STL). The QB runs over the LOS and throws a long completion. The refs call two penalties. One is illegal forward pass beyond the LOS on the offense and the other is illegal hit on the QB (going high) on the defense. In the end both penalties offset. So the QB was across the LOS yet suffered an illegal hit? Anyone see a problem with that?
