The point is that w/ more talent around him ray lewis couldn't get his team further than we got w/ Bart who WAS a damn good player for us the first 2 years. The bart from last year and this year is not the same guy from '09 & '10. The signing worked out for us.
I highly doubt Ray Lewis would have allowed Mendenhall to shred our defense in the first half of the AFCCG in 2010.
Ray's D let Ben Jarvus Green-Ellis shred Bal last year Ray's D blew a 2 TD lead at Pitt the week before we lost to them
My opinion isn't changed by what you've posted and I don't care to argue with you about it. Ray Lewis doesn't miss tackles like Scott did in the AFCCG and he would have held his team mates accountable too.
I don't care if you change your mind or not, Ray led more talented defenses in the playoffs the last few years and his Ds got beat up too. To blame Bart Scott is silly, our entire D was awful the first half. How come Ray couldn't will his D to the SB last year against a lesser NE O than the year before that our D shut down? It's a silly argument, of course Ray is a better player and leader but Bart was great for us the first 2 years. We weren't going to the SB if we had Ray instead of Bart. We probably make the playoffs last year if we had Ray instead if Bart though.
Lewis is just as bad in coverage. If he was here I don't think there'd be much difference. Also, Bart is an underrated leader. I'm sure he's quite vocal and respected in that locker room.
Bart Scott was playing injured that game. Its not like every missed tackle in that first half was attributed to Scott. Maybe things would have been different this is a silly conversation. We had the 1st and 3rd overall D those 2 years so to say we would have won a superbowl with Lewis is a ridiculous what if.
I never said all the missed tackles were attributed to Scott or that we would have won a superbowl with Ray Lewis instead. I said Mendenhall wouldn't have shredded our defense in the first half of the AFCCG if Lewis was there in place of Scott. I also said that I think a big part of the reason we took Scott over Lewis was that they play different positions. No one seems to care about that minor detail.
Not really. Ray was 34 at the time. Scott was 29. Hindsight is 20/20 of course, but at the time, Ray was assumed to have one or two more decent years before he'd start thinking about retiring. He signed a 7 year 44 mil contract. That wasn't exactly what I wanted us to pay for a 34 year old LB. I was fine with Scott at the time. He played very good his first two years and no body brought up the Ray or Bart pick on this forum.
I will be relieved once Bart gets kicked off this team. Now a days, he seems to be doing more damage off the field.
+1 When things go south, people will bring up every wrong move in the organization...and I'm not a Bart Scott fan. I'm not defending Rex, he has his issues and share of mistakes, but it's crazy to look at something that happened 3 1/2 years ago. We have hits and misses in players brought in, just like all teams. We as fans and especially Jets management (current and future) will need to focus on getting better, not rehashing the past.
Rex knew Ray would never leave Baltimore. He went after the attainable target. And people need to cut SOME slack to Rex. Just like they need to do the same with Sanchez. They both deserve their share of the blame, but the jets have do many problems that putting them all on one person is ignorant.
Scott is extremely overpaid this season. However, his acquisition is one of the best moves Rex has ever pulled off & it's crazy to view it as a mistake. Under Rex, the Jets D improved immediately & nearly brought the Jets to the SB two years in a row. Scott was a huge reason the D improved so much so quickly. Rex/Tanny have a bunch of mistakes on their resume but this definitely isn't one of them.
im not convinced ray lewis would be the same player at this point and the last couple of years anywhere but baltimore... that doesn't exonerate the decline of Bart Scott. Just sayin.
there's nothing in the water...but sometimes the situation goes a long way..he's entrenched there...he's a beloved figure there. he is comfortable there...and he is the unquestioned leader of that franchise. remove him from that situation at 30+ and I'm not convinced he dominates the way he does.
