There is no reason to trade Revis, he is already under contract anyway, let him play out his contract then offer him a new one next year.

The number 1 priority this offseason should be resigning Landry and finding a way to fit him under the cap. Everything else can be filled in through the draft and cheap FAs, it isn't like we are going to be world beaters next year anyway, but with the best secondary in football, we will be in a lot of games with a chance to win.

Fred Davis, like Dustin Keller can't block. I think Davis is the better receiving TE though. I think he'll command more money and he won't leave the Redskins

The only reason I would trade Darrell Revis Island, The all pro, Future hall of fame CB is.

If he walks next season, We get hit in 2014 for $9mill

Do people not realize that we don't have that many great all pro players in this franchise's history? Let's say we get a number one and a number two for Revis. That could turn into Kyle Wilson and Vlad Ducasse for example. Great, Ill pass and keep Revis.

Some of you Revis jock supporters are absolutely clueless. I can't begin to even try to think the way you do.

    Do you understand:
a). Last year of contract (he's not stupid. he won't hold out and he'll bust his arse so other teams notice he didn't miss a beat)
b). based on previous hold outs/contract talks/HISTORY - HE ISN'T GOING TO GIVE YOU DISCOUNTS.
c). HE WANTS BIG MONEY, BIG MONEY, BIG MONEY, NO WHAMMIES!
    d) our Cap isn't exactly super low to pay a CB QB $ when he is taking out 1 player and we have plenty of holes to fill (with what JAGs and riff-raff?)
    e) if he does't accept a deal from Jets, REGARDLESS OF WHETHER IT'S LOWBALLED OR NOT, HE HITS FREE AGENCY -- CHA! CHING! SEE YA'. (do you really think we'll match or better high offers - if he gets them)
    f) as willy wonka said, "YOU GET NOTHING!" ZIP, ZILCH, ZERO, all because you hopefuls thought he would sign a deal that worked for the Jets and not Mevis....Revis
g). The odds of going 9-7 or better next year is dim at best. A wasted year for having "the best defensive player in the league...on a contract year".

I can't see anything good happening with Mevis. He'll stay, play well and test market, like Mevis would do. No way the Jets should (or could if they could) pay a CB 14-16M a year. That's lunacy! 3RD ROUND COMPENSATION HERE WE COME!!!!!! if someone offers a 1st round pick, take it and run!

As per the "draft's a gamble - you could get 1 Kyle Wilson or Vlad D." That games easy to play, you could get 2 Darrelle Revis or 2 David Harris's or 2 Mangolds etc etc. for much much less money that can be spent on other FA's / re-signings.

Revis can void the last 3 years of his contract if he doesn't holdout. What are the last 3 years? 2014,2015 and 2016. Revis can void after this season. 2013. He becomes a free agent. The Jets can't franchise him. Revis will be on the open market as a free agent.

Landry yes will be gone which stinks, The Linebackers being overhauled who's complaining? Give me 4 No names and i believe our speed will be up graded at LB what I am saying is that we are missing a few pieces to become competitive again those pieces in my eyes:
    Serviceable QB
    OLB(2)
    2 Blocking TE(If Keller Leaves)
    G/T
    S(1)
    P(important to a team WITHOUT A QB)

Now this can happen in 1 1/2 years (2 drafts 2 FA's) our defense is needs to rest more and gain a little more youth. Losing Landry wont be the end of the world and losing Cro/Revis wont end the world if it brings in someone in the front 7 to rush the passer

Lets look at the 2 Teams in the superbowl front 7s compared to there Secondary its a complete opposite of how we are built atm

It could also turn into Doug Martin and Randall Cobb. That's a silly way to look at it.

Fortunately Idzik is smarter than the kneejerk Revis haters expressing their awfuladvice for the Jets in this thread

If I were Idzik,I would meet with both Revis agents at the Senior Bowl. I'm sure the Revis agents are down there with clients eligible for the 2013 draft. Find out how much money they want. They will want the moon. Idzik will tell them NO. Its time to discuss a possible trade. Talk to other teams at the Senior Bowl. The team meeting the asking price gets the opportunity to have their doctors examine the knee. #1 pick in 2013 and a conditional pick in 2014 based on the number of plays Revis plays in 2013 and signs a contract extension with the acquiring team. Can be as high as #1 pick in 2014.

This is sentimental, but I hope we keep Revis somehow. Just has to be a way, the CB market had to of died down at least a little bit.

This is a great scenario however the Jets have to create some real cap space in order to trade Revis before June 1st. About the only way to do that in a hurry would be to trade Revis and Cromartie as a package. If they're willing to go down to just $4M or so in space and hang there they can trade Revis early and try to make enough space to flesh out the roster later.

i don't see them trading revis. i think the jets feel - and i think they're right - that they can win with a great defense and a...satisfactory...offense. with revis and maybe a young pass rusher from the draft the defense could be amazing. maybe they'll even be able to rustle-up enough cash for landry to come back. if they can get sanchez or someone to put up 13 points a game and not turn over the ball, it could be a pretty good team. i doubt they rebuild

Thx for clearing that up. Contracts are so complicated now a days.

If that's the case if you want value for him you would need to do what you suggested move him now for 1st round and then conditional picks based on performance.

Saying it would be the smart thing to do makes it almost certain the Jets won't do it. You got to imagine the large part of those GM interviews dealt with how would you fix the cap and what players would you move. Considering Rex was sitting in on these interviews I'd find it hard to believe he approve the hire of a GM who'd shop Revis. We all know that Rex and Woody are very close.

This team has too many holes to fill to retain such a high priced player. Better to move him now and get picks than wait until next year and get nothing. Watching the playoff there are going to be a number of those teams looking to upgrade their defense.

The cap figures for the starting CB's in the Super Bowl are as follows:

    Carlos Rogers, SF, $4.772M
    Tarell Brown, SF, $1.810M
    Corey Graham, Bal, $1.300M
    Carey Williams, Bal, $1.927M

Total cap expenditure for starting CB's in the Super Bowl: $9.809M

Those starting CB's played on defenses that beat Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers and Matt Ryan in the playoffs this year.

How exactly can anybody defend the notion that the way to get to the Super Bowl involves having even one CB that makes as much as all the starters this year make combined, let alone having two of them?

If he's coming off when of his best seasons ever, why not trade him and his $10 million and get more than what we paid S.D for him? Take his $10 million and throw some of it towards Revis.

You have to also take into consideration the pass rushers on each team. You can put any slouch behind SF's front 7 and they will be good. Look at the Giants. Their secondary got absolutely torched this year because their pass rush was nonexistent throughout most of the year.

I totally get this. The answer isn't to pay two corners like they are great pass rushers. The answer is to go get great pass rushers and let your corners be decent players who can do well when there's a pass rush.

The only way to justify Revis's salary he would have to play QB position as well.
