Exactly. And our offense has been dog shit for years. There are 2 guys on offense that we need to worry about keeping and they're both locked up already. Outside of mangold and ferguson the rest of the offense is completely dispensible even if some of them are serviceable. Who gives a flying fuck about matt fucking slauson? Big deal.
He didn't turn us down for the Bears...Idzik kicked him to the curb and he took the best deal he could get.
I guess we are going after at least one guard in the draft. Ducasse was much improved over last season. By the end of the year I considered him better than Slauson. If he can improve that pass protection we'll be okay, but we still need a pick that can take over for him if need be, plus somebody else to replace Moore. I can't see him being a full time contributor yet. It's just too bad, because Slauson would have provided great depth on the OL since he played multiple positions on the line, including center.
I was not a SLauson fan, but what is the Plan B here? Moore is also likely gone and VD is nowhere near starter material. Colon is fragile. I guess they have to go OG with a high pick. I want that, anyway, but will they do it?
I've been hoping they go Guard with a high pick too. It's a brand new offensive scheme & it's either Sanchez or a brand new QB. Let's solidify that offensive line. Especially since the Colon situation reminds me of Laron Landry. Colon comes here on a 1-year contract & if he stays healthy for the whole season, he's gonna be looking for a multi-year payday. If Colon gets a contract that prices him off the Jets roster, I don't want the team once again to be looking for two guards. Plug in somebody this draft who's guaranteed to start next season for cheap price. Also, the jury is still out over at RT. Don't think we can assume Jets will be giving a multi-year deal to Austin Howard. Maybe he doesn't impress the new GM next season.
Huge upgrade sitting on the table in Warmack. Ferguson, Warmack, Mangold, Colon/Moore & Howard. Not completely fixed (Colon injury prone, Moore FA status?) but a better looking OL with Warmack in the mix.
Even if you wait till the second round, I think Warford is a huge upgrade (though obviously not as good as Warmack). We'll have to wait for the draft to play out but I really think there's gonna be some good Guards prospects in the 3rd round when Jets pick also.
Plan B is to get a competence replacement. It's April 1st. Hopefully Idzik isn't a tard to go with a bullshit project slotted to start. I'm sure you can find capable replacements in the draft - guards are fairly easy to replace if you just look at what they can and have done rather than look at the metrics and project what they may be capable of. There was a study done that showed the offense did no worse with VD in the game last year than Slauson btw. You can do your homework and find that I'm sure.
I know there's talk of Jake Scott, and Colon has already been signed, but neither are investments in th future. I know as well as anyone here about the large number of holes on the roster, but I want to see an investment in the OL. Is a third round pick going to be enough?
I don't need to look up that slauson was not that good and VD was only being played a third of the time, so was Slauson better than VD or not? "There was a study!" Heh. Interesting to see how Slauson will do in Chicago.... It's April 1? I had no idea.
Agreed ajax, but with Warmack I see a guy with polished technique (esp. footwork) and ready to go from day one. With Warford, he sometimes looks knock-kneed with his feet too close together and ends up lunging at his target esp. in space while Warmack always looks balanced ("rooted"). Warmack and another OL pick later in the draft? I could live with that.
Yeah i like Warford a lot in the 2nd, if we don't take a OL in the first I really think we should pick up a G or T in the first 2 rounds, 3rd the latest. It's time to re-up on the Oline.
VD had a clause in his contract that could have limited his snaps. Whether that was the case or not was unknown. If I get really bored I might go back and review both of their snaps over the season, but I doubt I can stomach rewatching much of that mess. I did see a major improvement in Vlads play during preseason when I focused on him. I'm sure you're basing your analysis on breaking down the games and focusing on VD though. I don't know whether VD is the answer, but I certainly don't think it's time to start watching out for a falling sky because we lost the great Matt Slauson.
I know you can't help yourself from being snarky, but I happen to agree with you about Slauson. And no, i did not see VD doign great things last year. Far from it. "He was as good as Slauson!" You want to make that case, go for it. I am not going to break down film.
So you're really concerned with replacing Slauson (what is plan B?) but don't give a shit that we potentially have someone who is just as good still on the roster? Pardon me for being confused. http://thejetsblog.com/bga/bga-weekly-ducasse-v-slauson/
The GM decided he didn't want to sign Slauson. Get over it. If you think the decision not to sign Matt fng Slauson means a decision to "tank" the season, then you're clueless.
