Ben and Eli have played bad at times but they have also played great at times, Rivers hasn't done that. If he doesn't get hurt they probably don't beat Indy that day though there was a bigger choker on the other sidelines for Indy. He plays in a weak division so winning the NFC West wasn't exactly impressive, every year SD was talked about as being the most talented team in the league and a SB favorite and they made one title game- again w/ Rivers hurt. he was awful vs. Seattle but he was spectacular the 3 road playoff games to get to Seattle. The Giants have had elite talent all around, the reason they won both SBs was b/c the D stepped up and played like an elite D. The talent was there but they followed the lead of their QB- inconsistent. How in the world did those 2 SB teams win 10 & 9 games in the reg season? how has all that talent missed 3 of the last4 postseasons? I disagree on Schaub, I think he's Rivers lite. Another guy who was on a highly touted team every year and has only led them to 2 postseasons and won 1 postseason game. If Eli can gain a little more consistency he can pass Ben. Ben has started to go the wrong direction in recent years. The throwing motion is a little unusual but this will be his 10th year in the league so I wouldn't put too much stock on that evaluation. he's always been a great #s guy but put him in a big moment in January and he folds. EVERY QB folds from time to time but w/ no great play to fall back on he is known just for choking. watch the games not just rankings and stat sheets. '07 and 11 they weren't highly ranked but their Ds were THE reason they won made and won both SBs.
Lol so I will just say "their D was not consistently good just take my word for it". Stop acting like people can't use stats to supplement their opinion. We are allowed to watch the games and then use stats in a discussion to make it more clear right? I don't need your permission If you can't add anything meaningful stay out of the discussion. The discussion is about their D being consistently good, not good for 2 stretches in the postseason. I know you are still salty at me over previous ownage but please try not to let your emotions get involved.
you are making it sound like their D wasn't good and wasn't the main reason they made both SB runs. Don't flatter yourself, I don't carry over arguments even when I humiliate posters like yourself who do nothing but post stats. each argument is different though when we are involved the results of the argument seem to be the same. You come out looking foolish. Check my posts, I added plenty of meaningful tidbits while you just posted D rankings- take your own advice and stay out. At least pay attention and learn so in the future you will be able to better handle yourself in such a discussion.
I don't really care what your mind twisted my words into being. I didn't "make it sound like" anything. This is the discussion. Please try to keep up: You do realize what consistent means right? So you saying that in 2007 and 2011 they had a D that carried them to a SB just supports my point. Thanks junc!
yep and instead of adding anything to the discussion you posted rankings w/o context. That's what folks like you do and you think you are right b/c rankings/stats tell us something but the problem is rankings/stats tell us PART of the story.
Sure but the problem with the "context" you like to give is that it comes with a ton of bias. Which is why I posted those numbers. Numbers over an almost ten year span, when you are referring to consistency, are way more reliable than the "context" of some eli-hating average fan
The #s come w/ bias too, it's all in the interpretation. I don't hate Eli, he's a good player and a great guy but I am not going to pretend like he is a great player like some of you guys b/c he got 2 SB MVP awards he really didn't deserve. That doesn't mean he didn't play well b/c he was really good in the '07 run and great in the '11 run but he didn't deserve those MVP awards and it fools the average fan into thinking he's a great QB.
So what does that anti-Eli rant have to do with whether or not he has had a consistently good D? Please stay on topic. Do you think he has had a consistently good D?
he wouldn't be a 2 time SB MVP here, the difference btw NYG '07/'11 and NYJ '09/'10 was the play of the DEFENSES and STs that set up NYG for the wins and prevented NYJ from winning so yes you would run him out of town, I can only imagine what you would have done in his 25 INT year.
Some stats. Rush and Passing TD/Turnover stats combined. Eli 137 Games played 58.6 completion percentage 215 tds 176 turnovers Ben 127 Games played 63.1 completion percentage 220 tds 137 turnovers Rivers 116 Games played 63.6 completion percentage 192 tds 124 turnovers Rivers didn't play much his first two years (only 4 games) due to having Brees there. It's funny how all three turned out to be above average NFL starting QB's and two of them won superbowls. When I did a thread awhile back in the draft forum on how 60% of first round QB's have busted in the past few years, one thing I noticed is good QB's come in bunches (probably because the great prospects push the other ones down).
One thing to remember with Eli's early struggles...that Giants offense wasn't exactly great back then. Kurt Warner looked washed up on that team, then went to Arizona and took them to a superbowl.
