Jets have 3 first round defensive linemen with a ton of talent. Antwan Barnes has had 10 sacks recently. Steiny likes Ricky Sapp. There are other guys on the team, too. Who do you think will lead the Jets in sacks this season? I'm thinking Coples gets 12 sacks this year as Rex moves him around. He, Richardson and Wilkerson could combine for 30 sacks this season if they reach their potential. It depends how good Richardson is right away.
Quinton will have the most sacks, followed by Barnes. Richardson and Wilkerson both get 7 each and McIntyre surprises in his limited time racking up 5+.
As much as i want Wilk to have it.. Barnes is so fast and good and sacking the QB.. gotta give it to him.
If Coples can lead the team in sacks with limited playing time and not having his job be rushing the QB, then he can lead the team in sacks with his job being GET THE QB.
Great thread, I think Barnes will shine as a starter for us. IDK how Coples will adjust to becoming an OLB.
have to go with Q. he led last year in limited snaps and is going to be in better positions to get to the qb this year. Q - 13 barnes -8 mowilk-7 Richardson 5.5
I definately think Coples will lead. But I can see Barnes right behind him. I think (and hope) that he will shine in Rex's D. Hopefully he shows he's fine against the run to keep Pace off the field. Also want to see some McIntyre in there.
Coples had 3.5 sacks in his last four games. If he can carry that type of play over he should win by a mile. I'm hopeful he finishes the season above 10 sacks.
+1 I see Coples getting double digit sacks. ... would guess that would be the first double digit sack guy since Rex took over in 2009. Sent from my Galaxy S4 via Tapatalk
I picked Coples. I was close to taking Wilkerson, but as a DE, he shouldn't be getting the most sacks, and if he does it will mean the LBers are weak or he is amazing. I think Coples will excel and pick up where he left off at the end of 2012.
Harris should be included in this poll. Since Rex is back to calling the plays himself, he called a lot of gap blitzes in 2009. We don't know if anyone on this team will exceed 6 sacks, so I'd say that makes Harris just as likely a candidate as some others. I went with the safe pick and said Mo-Wilk... I think Coples has more potential to put up monster numbers, but the way this defense the opportunities will be spread rather than funneled to Coples... also not sure if Coples is ready to make the leap into superstardom just yet.
