Love the bolded part. When have you seen a qb in THIS league be held back that much by a system. Does a qb look average then play better in another system? Sure...but he looked like a scared puppy last year. His decision making, albeit locking into one receiver each play, was horrendous. Now..the only bone I will throw him is this. If any system could hold back a qb..it was last years system. That was borderline average high school. Also, the lack of any weapons hurts....but you see that with many solid qb's and you do not see them fall apart like that. The only thing Sanchez has going for him is that he mentally fell apart last year..it was all mental and not physical. Can he rebound mentally? Not sure if he has that kind of makeup but we will find out quickly.
Sanchez mentally fell apart against the Fins in the season ender in 2011. He'd been on shaky ground for weeks before that.
Yeah, there were games earlier in the season where Sanchez was very shaky but the Fins game he was just throwing the ball into the middle of the field to get it out of his hands under pressure. That's where the Int's by the defensive linemen (plural) came from. Then of course he put together that last drive in vintage Sanchez fashion to screw up our perceptions again. If you want to play QB in the NFL you need to project confidence at all times. When you get to the point where you are obviously running scared it's just about over for you. Some very good QB's have had "who, what where?" moments and even sequences without real negative consequences for their careers. Peyton Manning against the Pats in the playoffs early on is one good example. Tom Brady against the Jets in the playoffs in 2010 early on is another. The key phrase in the statement above is "very good QB's". When you're not a very good QB those moments really kill you and they have done that to Sanchez over the last two seasons.
Very important game in week 2. No way genome is starting if Sanchez is healthy. Sent from my LG-VM670 using Tapatalk 2
All the more reason to move on from Sanchez sooner rather than later. Outside of Tebow, who I never considered a real Jet, I've never actively rooted against a Jets player before. I will be rooting for Sanchez to throw INT's Friday. Better to remind Rex now before the games matter.
I'm thinking Det brings some real pressure with their starting defensive line. I'd like to see Geno deal with that but I understand the Jets deciding that a tie goes to the incumbent for now. This is one of those damned if you start and damned if you don't situations for Sanchez. If he plays really well against the Det defense he turns that into a positive.
Bingo. I don't think Sanchez has ever been the same since that game. With Mangold out, Sanchez was running for his life as the line calls were in shambles. He was battered and I personally don't think he ever recovered. He had a few good games against bad opponents later in 2011, but has seemed scared in the pocket ever since the Ravens game.
he did play fairly well the next week and had a bunch of good games the rest of the way. I wouldn't pin it on that game. The Eagle game is where everything went south for good in 2011.
AMEN. The last thing we need is for Sanchez to show just enough to make the coaching staff forget that he can't play the position. What does it prove if he throws for 800 yards and 10 TD's during the preseason? I don't care if the guy is a practice field All-Star. I've seen him play enough real games to be convinced he can't get it done when it counts. If Sanchez could play at a high level, Geno wouldn't be here in the first place. Hopefully the organization doesn't lose sight of that. In fact, I can't think of a single example in recent history where a QB was drafted to be The Guy, shit the bed so badly that another QB had to be drafted to compete for his job only a few years later .... But he fought off the new guy, held onto the starting job and became the star he was drafted to be. Has that happened? When an organization has lost confidence in you to the point where they've spent a pick on your potential replacement, you're probably not getting your job back.
The closest I can come to your scenario is kind of a Jets in reverse by the Chargers in the early 00's. They drafted Drew Brees in the early 2nd, lost confidence in him, acquired Philip Rivers early in the draft 3 drafts later and then saw Brees grab the job when Rivers held out too long his rookie year.
Off the top of my head I don't recall that ever happening, history is against Sanchez. Now watch Sanchez go out there and play well on Friday. Although I wouldn't bet on that happening.
Beat me to it. I hope Mark goes 2-12 with 2 INTs. I want Geno to get on the field for us and have a legitimate shot at it. If its not Geno then give Greg a shot etcc........We need to know where we are at before next years talented QB filled draft. I am hoping Geno succeeds and we get to draft a TE or RB in the mid to late 20's. Putting the saddest clown in the league under center does not accomplish anything for the team's future.
ever hear of Drew Brees? not only did they use a pick they used a high 1st round pick not a 2nd rd pick which turned out to be our 3rd pick of the draft. it is amazing that jet fans are rooting against our players. Worst fan base in sports.
If Sanchez wins the job then ill root for him but until that time I'm rooting for Geno to win the job.
it's ok to root for Geno to win but it's awful to root against our own players. if geno is ready and he's good enough he'll beat our mark and either way if mark is as bad as you guys think why are you even worried mark can win the job? Geno must be a lock.
Bold prediction: After the Jets ruin Geno by rushing to start him this year, they'll draft Manziel and bring that circus to town!
JUNC, you really crack me up with that comment. Unlike you and a small handful of holdouts, 99% of this fan base realizes if we want to win anytime soon, we need a serious upgrade from a guy who's been the statistically worst QB of all qualified QB's since 2009. Not close to last, or near the bottom of the pack, or next to last --- DEAD LAST in the QB rankings since 2009. We've had enough of this caliber of play. He's had his opportunity and he's played his way into last place. Why isn't that enough for you? I'm personally rooting for Sanchez to play poorly because the sooner Geno is given the reigns, the sooner this franchise starts to move forward. I don't need to see Mark Sanchez ever take another snap in a Jet uniform. I've seen enough. And if Geno plays like shit for a few years, then I'll be ready to give the next guy his fair shot. If that makes me a bad fan, so be it.
awesome, you can have your stats and rankings and I will deal in reality where only one year was he bad and near the bottom and in that one year he had Chaz Schilens starting. root for our guys to fail, keep proving why our fanbase sucks. You will be bashing Geno in a couple of years, no QB is ever good enough for our great fanbase. and after geno you'll bash the next guy 2 years after that and so on.
Your perception creates YOUR reality. There's no denying that Sanchez has been a bottom tier QB since he's gotten here. Even if stats do not tell the whole story, they sure as hell tell a fair amount of it. hahaha- "no QB is ever good enough for our fanbase"...When was the last time we had a true franchise QB? Unless you have a franchise QB, can you really be content with your QB situation? At least not in today's NFL.
