I agree that they have done a piss poor job of developing him. No argument there. I wouldn't even be shocked if he re-surfaced somewhere else and had marginal success. However, I simply don't agree with the bolded. Many teams have won playoff games with their quarterback being their biggest weakness. Heck, you could make a legitimate argument that the 2000 Ravens and 2002 Bucs won Superbowls with their quarterbacks being the respective weakest links on their given teams (By the way, I'm not saying either guy was bad . . . just that you could make the argument each guy was the weakest aspect of his respective team). There seems to be this unspoken connection that people automatically make between a team's Win/Loss record and the merits of that team's quarterback, that I simply don't agree with (either in principle or practice). Football is a team sport. It is entirely plausible to win a football game, even a big one, with your quarterback not playing particularly well. In fact, I would argue that the Jets have done quite a bit of this in Mark Sanchez's tenure! Once more, football is a team sport. We aren't taking about golf. There is more to winning and losing than quarterback play, and just like the quarterback rarely deserves all of the blame when a team loses, he also doesn't deserve all of the credit when a team wins. There is nothing more hilarious to me than reading one of the Sanchez apologists on this board write something like "Sanchez lead the Jets to two AFC Championship games" . . . I always think to myself, do any of these people know what the word "lead" means? Did Trent Dilfer "lead" the 2000 Baltimore Ravens to a resounding Superbowl victory? Or was he just on a team that went on a historical defensive run?
Any Sanchez supporters that were left should have given it up after last years Monday night game in Tennessee, which officially eliminated us and was his worst game ever. I think the commentators at the end called it "a shocking night of futility"
Are you on drugs? edit: 89 post guy? what? Please elaborate, lol. I would love to know what are trying to articulate, because you haven't made any sense in several posts now. And if you don't want to answer any of that . . . fine . . . just tell me this: Where do you get your weed?
Personally, I jumped off the Sanchez bandwagon after his disastrous performance in the final game of the 2011 season, @ Miami. But yeah . . . Tennessee . . . yikes.
I actually stopped smoking weed about five years ago. It was a sad day. But it opens your eyes to other things.
:lol:are you kidding? mcelroy should be the one in the competition with geno. el taco would already be gone if it wasn't for the bean counter and that stupid guarantee.
you got a real indication of what his teammates think in the arizona game last year. just re-watch the game and observe how the offense responded after mcelroy replaced el taco. whether it's mcelroy or smith, the rest of the offense is just going to be more energetic . :metal:
Chad, after two shoulder surgeries, had a better throwing arm than McElroni does now. The fact that you are making this argument is poetic justice. Maybe you should go back to sleep and wake up when we have a QB with an arm as powerful as my thumb. Epic win.
the game where marty's offense hung 47 points on rex's defense? then, let marty and / or idzik pick the qbs. rex should stay completely out of it.
epic nonsense! been to 3 days of camp already, including scrimmage. greg gets the team into the end zone, and doesn't give the ball away. classic tuna definition of the qb position.
I've seen the guy throw the ball. The fact that you have been his biggest supporter is funny as hell. He's got nothing but a pop-gun arm. Chad could get the team to the endzone and beyond. Only because he used dump-offs and slants all day long. This is just funny. MCELRONI!!!!
not if you are el taco. outplayed him last preseason, in the arizona game, and so far in camp this year. he'll be around after el taco is gone. having him , even as backup to smith, allows the team to send el taco on his way after this year.
oh, as for el taco's arm, remember the picks from last year ( to def. lineman, the corners in the seattle game, and the fumbles to the pats ) ? mcelroy took sacks against the chargers when the line played crappy, but he did not turn it over like el taco always does. why don't you go watch the replay of the titans game or the thanksgiving night game.
