Yeah, but you said if the press doesn't lay off, Rex will give them nothing. Do you really believe that?

Your words...."If the press knows what's good for them they'll lay off Rex. Otherwise he's just going to start giving them nothing, like every other coach."

Alot of them ,this is why coaches have 10 other coaches and 45 staff members on the sidelines

not sure I agree...this is very much a story...rex basically saying he wasn't paying attention to the offense with his first live glimpse at his QB situation amongst other things to basically say he was focusing solely on his defense is not a good thing....and deserving of a story.

    Who gives a fuck?

The QB competition is going to play out regardless if Rex is paying attention to the offense in the first meaningless preseason game or not.

In preseason what exactly do you expect Rex to do during the game other than watch. Which is exactly what he has done by watching it on tape, which is a better measuring stick on the competition any way.

The same outcome occurs regardless. So why not get even more out of your team by coaching up the defense (which is Rex's forte) in live action?

What exactly is the big problem with this? Please, I don't get it.

from PFT earlier - seriously anyone that makes a deal out of this is (IMO) most likely either a troll or a fan of another team.

In the real world, a pro head coach has to know how to coach---and he has to know how to talk. Unfortunately, when it comes to news conferences, Rex is still in the schoolyard. If he can't find the right words, he lies. He is infantile in the real world. Oh, he knows his X's and O's. He knows, for the most part, who to keep and who to cut. His comments to the writers are completely indigestible, though.

Screw that and screw what the media thinks. Rex is Rex, and this comment was blown out of proportion. There's nothing for him to apologize for because he did nothing wrong.

I would never want Rex to be your typical drone HC. We would be so much better off if the media would stop making everything a big deal and just sit back for the ride.

That's never going to happen though. *Sigh

there is another thread right next to this one in which Idzik is getting nailed by Mehta for his moves, I wasnt aware that Idzik said random stuff to reporters as well?

there is clearly an agenda (which is "stir up controversy to get traffic") which is just sad to see, and its also clear that they will spin whatever Rex does or does not say regardless.

Rex is letting Marty run the offense and Marty will let Rex in on all the details...at some point.

    Yep

Loved the book. If you haven't read it - go buy it. It will give you a lot of perspective on Rex and make you appreciate where he's coming from.

And he is not his father. He talks about his father's issues and views himself as himself, not required to follow his father's path etc. TYhe "Rex is just like his father" comments are growing very stale. I somehow doubt he is going to punch Mornhinwig any time in the future. He should have punched Schotty and Sparano.

Examples of Rex's lies? I honestly could give a fuck less what Rex says in press conference. It doesn't have to do with football, that's just petty drama. I care about X's and O's and talent evaluation, not that other nonsense.

This is def a non-story. Look at what's going on in Green Bay and Houston. McCarthy is there for offense and offense only - he doesn't coach the defense. Same in Houston. Gary Kubiak is there for offense and Wade Phillips is there for defense.

The difference is they coach offense and know what's best and let the defense handle their business while Rex will choose the QB yet knows nothing about offense

Rex's decision will be heavily influenced by the OC / QB Coach - in a sense our OC / QB Coach will choose who will start opening day in my opinion.

They'll have input so will Idzik but ultimately Rex will choose the guy and if its Mark he'll also choose when to pull him

With HEAVY influence from MM and David Lee. Whoever they choose will start. Rex will announce the starter, but he will not play a big role in deciding who will start. He will only announce it at the most and give his 1 or 2 points.

So you think if MM and Lee and Idzik say we think Genos the guy that Rex will say okay

Nope, it's HIS team I can't see him not starting Mark just to see if he has any juice left

He benched Mark on his own free will last season - if Rex wants to keep his job, then he will know it's in the best interest to start the best QB equipped for the job.

I absolutely believe if MM and Lee think Geno should start that Rex would agree - he has no argument to support Sanchez if the OC and QB coach believe Geno is the better option.

Idzik will play the role of the peace-maker. Idzik will be in on the discussion but I believe it will come down to MM and David Lee.

hmmm another myth that's already been denounced by Rex & Idzik. Why do people keep perpetuating lies about the team. We all know it's a group decision, not just Rex.

    There's a difference between what's said and what's meant

    Idzik has mastered that

I wouldn't mind being wrong to be honest
