Great thread to keep rolling....no QB talk? Ok.... I am a little worried how our edge is going to look on D. I'll chock that one pop as a one hit wonder and keep my eyes open as I need to see more of the LB'ers. At times they looked slow...then quick...then slow again. Which is it? Our D' Line is going to be fantastic, including depth. While I wouldn't put us at 1 or 2...we'll definitely be top 5 on the line if we stay healthy. Milliner has got to pan out and be what we hope. Because, if we have to rely on Wilson every team is going to line their number 1 on him and do fly patterns all day long and Pass interference their way down the field. He just never gets his head around. He is a career slot/nickel corner and I've resigned myself to that fact. The RB's, overall, looked bad but I like what I see out of Powell individually. He worked in the off season and I think he fits in well with what Marty is trying to do with backs out in the flat. He's perfect against a heavy blitzing team. I'm not sure what to make of Ivory. Not a whole lot has impressed me. There's no burst, there is no wiggle. Personally, I'd like to see what Bell has to offer behind the first team line. McKnight doesn't make this squad this year...I don't believe. He needs to go off and get healthy and his head right. Besides, he's one shot away from being in the "vegetable" ward. The jury is still out on special teams as well. No consistency. One kick they are blowing people up...the next they are missing tackles and giving up 15/20 yrs. I think the punting is locked. I like Quigley. The place kicking though...I don't know what it is...how come we NEVER have a guy on the field who has been a Jet for 10 years and will be for 10 years more?? It's always a freakin' crap shoot. I can't say that I'm comfortable with either Folk or Cundiff! To blow kicks in a preseason game...with nothing on the line but your job...that's not the pressure of your season on the line in week 17!! There needs to be improvement. I am not going to comment on coaches because of all the super vanilla schemes. Rex does his best when scheming his ass off and he can't do that in preseason. I will say this, though, I like the flow to Marty's play calling. He "feels" a game properly and kept good balance. We shall see.
Not to get overly analytical but I wasn't too surprised about our lack of gap control on the edge for two reasons. Our OLB's are not "Elite" and our Safeties are questionable as well and those are your main stoppers of the edge runs in a 3-4(If the ILB's are blocked).
On Wilson's long run I noticed that DeMario Davis rushed hard inside the tackle and then got trapped there. He did hit a big hole developing but it wasn't the one the play was headed for. I don't know enough about Rex's run blitzes to know whether he made a bad read or just got caught in the switches on a good one.
Agree, I don't know whether Davis was supposed to blitz or not but he definitely made a bee line for the LG, but your Safeties need to make the play no matter what and they didn't.
So I have the game on right now...The blown assignment was Antonio Allen. He cheated up to literally 5 yds. off the ball on the INSIDE of the right hash. Cromartie is man up on his guy. Allen had no business being in that close to the middle nor that close to the line. It's the whole point of a SAFETY. His blown assignment caused that pop.
I'm usually running around like Chicken Little after a game like that, but I saw some good stuff last nite. For every mistake, I saw equally good plays. I still think 8-8 no matter who ends up under center.
The Good: 1) Matt Simms 2) The O-Line 3) Sheldon Richardson The Bad: 1) Ivory and Powell. Only 1 yard per carry? Is the giants run defense that good? Will Goodson play at all this season? 2) Tackling. 3) Geno. 4) Rex's decision making
I liked Matt Simm's as well but this was the 4th quarter against 3's. You just can't evaluate a QB like that because a lot of those players will not be in the League next year. I think we should give him a start against 2's next week and see.
I feel the same. Jets need to go very heavy on offense. They still have OL issue to deal with, and while I think receiver position looks promising, I think Jets still need good TE prospects and RB prospects - and probably, a god damn QB that doesn't look like total shit. I'd like someone with some pro-offense background, so I don't have to endure this on-the-job training bullshit every fucking time I see a QB drafted. I think Jets have a good chance to end up 5-6 picks at top 100. [3 of their own, 1 from Revis and 1~2 from compensatory]. I'd like to see Jets spend two of that on S and OLB - after that, the remaining 4 should go to the offense. Preferably, the top two picks should go to offense, but if there is a good OLB/S prospect, I wouldn't hate it.
My evaluation was up till the Giants took out their 1's which was around half the 2nd quarter I believe. The 3's came out beginning of the second half if I'm not mistaken(for the Giants anyway).
Sanchez 5 picks against Buffalo were far worse. This is the guys first real game of more then 14 or so snaps and you already have this assessment. Incredible. Hater much?
