Battle of the weakest kickers in the NFL. Who will make the team? Who do you want to make the team? Will we even go with a kicker this season? Pick your choice of poison
If this thread is serious I'll say Nick Folk because he hasn't missed a kick to make it to the superbowl?
Folk has been really solid for us the last few years. Yesterday caused a worry, but I'd still keep his as the winner. You can always find another kicker during the season if Folk has a terrible year.
Cundiff is a joke. Besides his infamous AFCCG choke, he was terrible last year with the Redskins and got cut. He was 1/4 against Tampa and almost single-handedly lost the Skins the game. Overall he was 7/12 last year, which is pretty terrible. Whatever he once was, he's damaged goods now IMO. I don't trust him at all.
Folk isnt a weak kicker hes very gud not every k can make errthng . Game on the line folk is actually 1 of the more clutch kickers in the league
^^^ Your post (in bold) above is pretty much indicative of Nick Folk: maybe not exactly "money-in-the-bank" but at this same time, if your life depended on it, who's your OTHER all-or-nothing choice....for now?
Who I think wins the job? Cundiff. Who would be my kicker? Neither. Cundiff's kickoffs have been better and deeper than Folk which might seal the deal.
PS: after Matt Simms was busted for that totally bogus post-TD "celebration" penalty, it should be noted where Billy Cundiff put the ball after the 15 yard penalty kickoff spot, i.e. from the 15 yard line--what a bomb!--and where the Jets' defense ended up field position-wise.
Don't like either, even before last night, but if it comes down to the two, then Folk. Cundiff is bad, Folk isn't good, but better than Cundiff. We should be looking for a new kicker in the draft or as an UFA next year.
Folk. He can drive you nuts with his inconsistency but nobody kicks 100%. He's come through when the Jets needed big kicks in the playoffs & I still remember his kick to end the Jets/Colts playoff game. Should Folk be the starter no matter what? Nope. But he should be the starter if his competition is not head & shoulders better.
I voted neither. I want us to sign Havard Rugland when Detroit cuts him in a few days. If you don't know who he is, he hit 2 consecutive 50 yard FGs against us a couple weeks ago. Or just go to YouTube and type "kickalicious"
Westhoff on pregame radio show said Cundiff's KO's are a huge plus, he said he would pick Quigley too, better directional punter
Thanks for the heads up Matt. Interesting take on the punters from Westy particularly his comments about Ryan Quigley being a better directional punter since Robert Malone's supposed strength coming out of Fresno State was as a directional punter. I actually had a chance to see him up close years ago when Fresno State came in early in the season to play Rutgers. In the few years that he's been in the NFL, it looks like Malone's leg has clearly gotten bigger. Anyway, what I took away from seeing them both for the better part of a week up in Cortland is that Quigley was not as consistent in turning the ball over and did not have Malone's hang time nor "leg" and I posted weeks ago that I thought Quigley was a sure to be released in the "Training Camp Day #8" thread (pg. 6) as well as in the "Green & White Scrimmage" thread. I did pick Cundiff in a mild upset to beat out Folk in the "Position Battle-K" thread because of his "leg" (kickoffs), but I'm going with Folk as being a little more dependable on FGs.
Folk has done a good job for us overall, this shouldn't really be a choice except for Cundiff being better on KOs.
