The last time we opened up w/ Tampa Bay was 1991. A 5th year QB named Vinny Testaverde brought in his Bucs to the Meadowlands facing a Jets team coached by 2nd year HC Bruce Coslet. Vinny led TB back to tie it in the 4th on a long passs to a promising rookie WR Lawrence Dawsey(who would never fulfill potential). ken O;Brien would lead us downfield to set up Pat Leahy(in his last opening day game) for the GW FG. boxscore: http://www.pro-football-reference.com/boxscores/199109010nyj.htm Marvin Washington sacking Vinny Pat Leahy kicks GW FG
The Jets have played the Bucs 10 times. Jets lead series 9-1. From memory: in the Bucs lone win in a game down in Tampa Bay, Buc HC John MacKay in a classless move purposely had his defense let the Jets score at the end of the game with the game out of reach just to get TB's offense back on the field so as to give RB James Wilder more carries to try and win the NFL rushing title. The Jets incensed by the move, stoned Wilder colder--he didn't get his rushing title against them. The schedule makers the following year just so happened to have Tampa Bay coming to New York and while MacKay had been replaced as coach, the Jets didn't forget the stunt TB pulled the year before: Jets - 62 TB - 28
Lawrence Dawsey, FSU. He really did underwhelm in the pros. And that's Ricky Reynolds in the pic. He was pretty good in the original Tecmo Bowl even though the Bucs were awful. I was at that game and remember it well. The season started Sept. 1st which is way early.
yep, I remember that '84 game at tampa well, it was the first game we had cable TV as a kid:grin: Hopefully the good times against the Bucs continue
When I think of the bucs vs jets I think of that 2000 game where Wayne Chrebet scored the game winning touchdown after Keyshawn was running his mouth all week long.
Refreshing thread Junc! Except the Marvin Washington... Man Him and Calvin Pace actually wore the same number...how Ironic!! I was @ the last game In TB when Revis got a pick and ran right by my seat...got some awesome pics.
I'm more intersted in the ripped price on the ticket stub, was that actually yours Junc? Does it really say 22.50? And 3 bucks for the program....awesome. I always would get the Gameday and the crazy thing is I can still remember some of the ads in them. Louis Rich Turkey (is that still even around?) and there was one of a player in uniform in a sombrero and a cape....lol.
That was sweet. It's when Keyshawn went on and on about how a star is brighter than a flashlight or some shit like that, and Chrebet shoved it in his face.
nice pic, post more please. It is not mine but every seat was $22.50, that was my 2nd year of going to every game and our tickets were the same price AND we didn't have to pay preseason. It cost $185 for the year for 1 ticket(thanks to my parents who paid for them, I was in my mid teens at the time). I think around 1992 or 1993 it went up to $25 a game, then it was $30 a game in '97 then $40 a game in '98. '98 was the first year we had to pay for preaseason so: 1990: $185 for season 1997: $240 for season 1998: $400/season '98 is when it start to keep going up and up and up to what we have now.
