that is absolutely silly. receivers are bracing for impact that is being instigated by the defender. I have never seen a receiver make a move that could even remotely be interpreted as trying to instigate a helmet to helmet contact to receive a 15 yard penalty; they are likely more concerned with making sure they catch the ball and not getting injured.
hah jb..nice one....hey...go to a high school football game with 2 very good teams playing each other and watch them beat the crap out of each other..great hits...and rarely...RARELY a helmet to helmet. On the rare occassion it does happen..flags are thrown and parents want to rush the field..the kid is crucified..the coaches grab him and yell at him. If the NFL doesnt come down on hits like that then the settlement was a joke...I have not heard anything yet? Has there been a fine?
Heres something weird..and Im always paranoid about the relationship with ESPN and the NFL...but has anyone seen those hits played back anywhere on the news? Kinid of strange to me that a huge settlement..and not one rerun of those hits or any hits beside the pussy hit against the niner qb?
This post makes me think about the dirty hit on Kapernick, we all knew the Packers were going to take a cheap shot or two on him, Harbaugh talked about all week and sure enough the kid gets clotheslined out of bounds none the less and because teh 49er players were quick to defend their QB we get offsetting penalties when in reality the long haired freak should have been ejected.
I still haven't heard anything. Well, apart from us not being able to field Kerley on Thursday... which also further means the number of trauma hits to the head he can have before having to retire or suffer from irreparable damage, has been reduced by one.
Dashon was not playing the ball... The old rules allowed saftey's to just time the hit and blast the WR. Not anymore. He lead in with his helmet almost every time and was no way looking at where the ball was at. He is gonna get suspended if he keeps up the dirty playing. Rex made sure that our safety's were not doing it. If it was allowed , Rex would be telling all the DB's to blast anything in their way.
Anybody have video of the Cumberland hit? Maybe a reverse angle of it will emerge this week from NFL films. I ask because on every message board or comments sections of articles these dopey Bucs fans are saying it was a shoulder to the chest. First replay I saw it was the top of the helmet right into Cumberland's grill. Effing obvious. Be nice to be able to show these Bucs fans what's what.
Helmet gets him, shoulder goes first. Still illegal under the rules. Helmet gets him under the chin, makes sense with what I believe I read saying Cumberland got stitches
http://www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/2007/09/chrebet_suffering_consequences.html Scary enough for me. I wonder if it's going to come back to taking the helmets off like rugby. Not sure if that would help because it is a different game, though.
Helmet Hits All across the country football participation is down in schools while overall sports participation is up. There may be many reasons for this but safety is surely the primary one. Ask yourself the next time you cheer for a helmet hit or boo an official for making the call if you would encourage your son to play this sport. We all love to watch it but they really have to clean it up fast. More lawsuits are on the way.
Since the topic I's about a hard hitting Saftey I thought I'd point out the fact that Laron Landry got 15 tackles against the raiders and currently leads the league in that category, WTF were we thinking not resigning him
That's a misleading stat when the saftey leads the team in tackles. That means that the RB got threw the DL and LB's and the last guy to catch him is the saftey. Or that the WR's caught so many balls that all landry could do is tackle the guy. Still not good.
Not playing the ball. All he was looking to do was blast him. Used to be ok. Not anymore. He could have easily just played/batted the ball down.
This is something he has been fined for in the past. It's going to be really shitty if they don't at least fine him. I still think they need to suspend him.
Me being the thread starter, I'll say that from watching this replay, it's fair to say he's possibly going for the shoulder/body hit first. BUT - his helmet still hits Cumberland's grill - Goldson's responsibility. For those claiming it would take away from the physicality of the game enforcing severe repercussions for hits like this, it's simply retarded. There is nothing promoting physical play in hits like these, only cheap shots with a high chance of injuring the player taking the hit. Just fucking suspend this idiot Goldson already, NFL. L2Wrap Up. Just watch the excellent video of Lott posted by Hobbes, and see how it can be done.
