Several of those guys are good players. Moore, Streater, Jennings and Reese are all good players. If anything, you know most, if not all, the players on the list are FAST.
No sir...not at all...I was merely pointing out that team has some small school "nobodies" on their team...as far as the NFL is concerned...as well as the Raiders fan base. I live out here and watch and listen. There are parallels all over the place when you talk about the Raiders and the Jets as far as talent goes. Plain and simple. It is ARGUABLE that we have the better backfield because of current health. It is NOT ARGUABLE that we have the better offensive line...we do, hands down, based on SHEER talent. I would say we are even at the Wideout position until Holmes hits the field and then we are superior. Based on QB's we SHOULD be head and shoulders superior if you believe the bullshit people spew about college production and draft status the way people on this board rail on about Smith vs. Simms vs. Matt McGloin. The point of the entire post, considering it is clear you missed it, is that with a non-drafted QB from a school that is NOT considered a QB factory in Penn State the Oakland Raiders are seeing COMPETENT not GREAT QB play and they are at the very least COMPETITIVE. When the Raiders need to get a score they can rely on their undrafted FA to at least instill a passing game fear so that they can be effective running OR throwing the ball. I'd answer your question about whom to give the ball in crunch time to but, unfortunately, when the line is stacked and you have NO FEAR of a passing game you've just shit your own bed. I hearken back to a movie I once saw..."The Replacements"...Gene Hackman asks "Who wants the ball?" The QB, played by Keanu Reeves, says "I do!" I wonder about Geno Smith...
Ferguson's blocking is God awful this year. Winters is a rookie getting abused by opposing defenses. Mangold is the only one playing well. Colon has been getting destroyed all year. Howard can't pass block for his life. Geno Smith is tied for second in times sacked. I don't see one player on that line that is Pro Bowl worthy this year.
Hey, I agree Speed Kills...but damn it, Legler, SOMEONE has to get them the BALL!!! Hill is fast...we aren't even THROWING to him. Cribbs is fast...I do not think speed is our issue. Hey, you wouldn't see me bitching about Smith if he hit Hill in the hands...and he dropped it. I'd be bitching about Hill...unfortunately, lately, that has not been the case. To clarify, I bolded it, you said good. We have good players. Good average players...IF someone was getting them the ball...we would see good average offensive production. At this stage of the game I ask for nothing more.
Well...I'm not going to argue this point, just yet. After tonight's game my NFL Rewind opens up and I can view the coaches tape. I'll get back to you on my assessment...BUT, early indications are 5 guys can only block so many for so long...but we shall see. I'll report back.
I'm sorry are QB's not supposed to recognize blitzes and adjust protection? It's so clear that he doesn't recognize any coverage that its almost criminal to leave him out there at this point, he's going to get himself killed out there. He doesn't audible to better pass plays ever and it skews the sack stats. Sacks are just as much on the QB as they are on the OL most of the time.
Moore is a stud the rest are just real good. I think we agree that we have enough talent to be playing better but I would take their WRs over ours any day of the week and twice on Sundays.
ok, this is a geno sucks thread. got it and won't argue but he is not the only problem. if we had 1 wr/te that required double teaming it would help everything. of course teams are rushing 5 right now. they can still play man on the wr's and zone the shallow/medium stuff without the threat of getting beat deep. i am thankful the opposing d isn't sending 7 every play
So many for so long has tended to be 5 guys for 1.5 seconds this year. Go look at FootballOutsiders for the skinny on the Jets pass protection. They say it is #31 in the NFL with only the Raiders or the Jaguars (can't remember which) worse than the Jets.
Do we have a good ground game? Seems to me like Ivory does most of the work for his yards. This line is rated as one of the worst in both run and pass blocking. This line is garbage period. I think we all forget just how bad Sanchez is. Who do we have this year that's better than what Sanchez had last year? Probably Marty? And lately he hasn't done a good job at all. Honestly, I think they have no confidence in the pass blocking, that's why we aren't passing. Either that or their trying not lose, which is obviously making this entire offense worse including Marty. I don't think that anyone can say that Geno wasn't much better when he was aloud to throw the ball, and the playbook was wide open . IMO they saw that they were winning games and had a shot to make the playoffs and started playing "not to lose" which is complete dogshit and it's making Geno, Hill , and everyone else play worse.
There was sure respect to his passing game when he was one of the most accurate QBs throwing deep. Weeks ago Jets were top 15 in offensive yards what happened? We got soft, we started playing too conservative. Do you even watch the fucking game? The OLine is complete fucking trash! I don't ever care for Geno, we could have Tebow in there right now and I would be saying the same exact thing. This line is getting shitted on play after play. We have FORMER pro bowlers, FORMER. They are playing no where near that level. The QB could change protection schemes, but at the end of the day what do they have to do no matter the scheme? BLOCK which they have not done. Watch the game and focus on the line.
While i do see Smith change the play now and then, I can't tell if he ever identifies the blitz and makes any calls on that. Add in that opponents know that Smith cannot make them pay for blitzing, and no wonder it's a jail break on passing downs. How is that mostly on the OL? It is on Smith.
I wanted us to draft Rivera at TE from Tennessee, but unfortunately he plays on the wrong side of the ball to be considered. We mostly just draft defense.
Greg Salas and David Nelson started yesterday. Our offensive line is not having a good year by any stretch- Winters has been awful. Ivory got dinged up again yesterday. Powell is a JAG. There's little to no talent on this roster on offense right now. Cumberland's being forced to pass block.
Can you honestly say if we had pro bowlers everywhere on offense that Geno would play better? If he needs a cast of all pro players at every position to be competent I don't want him as my QB. This is the NFL, everybody on the field has a specific skill set or they wouldn't be playing in the league, you work with what you have and Geno can't even produce below average offense. For all the shit Mark got last year he had Tony Sporano and a MUCH worst cast of talent and never looked this god awful.
so ivory is averaging almost 4 1/2 YPC w/o any help from the OL? Interesting. we aren't passing b/c of lack of confidence in the QB not the OL.
Pro Bowlers? I'm talking just NFL caliber players. Geno early in the season demonstrated the ability to throw the ball down the field accurately. Pass protection has gone to shit, Kerley got hurt...and we're stuck trying to run a vertical passing game with a poor OL in pass protection, receivers who cant beat press man coverage and a rookie QB.
They're different backs- the majority of Powell's work came in one game. However the run blocking has been better than the pass blocking recently.
