yes v. no/same is pretty even. I don't know how we could be any worse on the offensive side of the ball if Sanchez was in there.
The argument of whether Mark Sanchez was a decent quarterback led many of us to a near nervous breakdown. A quarterback controversy with Geno Smith may lead some of us to a straightjacket. If Sanchez really is back in the conversation, then we really need to sign a proven QB.
Geno's been just as bad as Sanchez was in some of the games last year (his fourth year in the NFL). Sanchez or Geno? The vet might have a slight edge, but I think the record is the same. Geno is playing like Sanchez 2.0 right now, hopefully he turns it around for the phins, because we'll need it. Thank goodness we're at home. There's really no reason to think Sanchez would do any better than Geno, based on his history.
How many games does Geno have 5 turnovers in? Mark has accomplished this multiple times. Geno at his best is better than Sanchez. He's already had a better game this year than Sanchez had his entire career and has yet to have a worse one. Just pointing out the facts.
that settles it! yeah, he was much better against that dynamic Falcon team than mark was throwing 3 TDs on the road in the divisional playoffs against the Pats. It's so embarrassing to be a Jet fan sometimes, Jet fans deserve to watch a losing team
I think that's very much debatable. These games are far more better than Geno's best. Not counting Mark's postseason games. 2010 Week 2 against New England - 220, 3tds, 70% completion 2010 Week 10 against Houston - 315, 3tds, 58% completion 2011 Week 3 against Oakland - 369, 2TDs, 61% completion 2011 Week 14 against Kansas City - 181 4 TDs (2 Passing, 2 Running) I think it's unfair to compare Geno's rookie yr vs Sanchez's entire 4 year career as the sample size comparison isn't fair. Now if you are mentioning rookie year vs rookie year, Geno had the more impressive game against the Falcons and Buffalo Bills (pt1), I would agree with your assessment for sure. Geno can only get better from here on out though right?
mark at SD div playoffs was better than any game geno had this year, everyone will look at the stats but it's about much more than #s against awful secondaries. mark was outstanding that game and the week before at Cincy he was near flawless w/ just 3 incompletions and 2 of them being drops(including a would be bomb TD to Braylon).
QB rating better defines an overall performance. Geno already put up a higher QB rating in a single game than Sanchez ever has. I know it's too early and you can't define Geno yet, but it's promising to see that. Falcons game: QB rating: 147.7 (Mark has never done this) TDs: 3 YDS: 199 comp% 80 (Mark has never done this) I know Mark has had a couple 4 TD games, and has thrown for more than 200 yards many times, but he hasn't been nearly as efficient as Geno has in his best game. I still say Geno's game at the Falcons was better than any Sanchez game, although Geno needs to be careful because he's on a slippery slope right now and he could very well sink into oblivion and have worse games than Sanchez.
QB ratings:rofl: if that is the case mark had three 100+ rating games as a rookie( 4 counting playoffs), Geno 1 mark had 7 80+ rating games as a rookie(9 counting playoffs), Geno 3.
The Falcons game keeps getting brought up. Only Minnesota has given up more passing TDs than Atlanta so far this year (one more). Only San Diego has allowed a higher completion percentage (0.5% more). Only 3 teams have less sacks. Only one team has less interceptions (interestingly it's the no.1 passing D of Houston because they have by far the least amount of passing attempts against). Only 7 teams have allowed more passing yards per game. Only two teams have given up more total points. That game against Atlanta has been Geno's only good performance, is it really that impressive now? Do you really want to bet the future of this franchise based on one game against a terrible defense? It would be one thing if he was just mediocre in his other games, but he's been bad to atrocious. That Falcons game is the only bright spot that Geno defenders keep pointing to but it's really not anything to hang your hat on when you put it in perspective.
The knock on Geno coming in was that he had all the physical tools but is really RAW. Would Sanchez have played better? Hard to say. Would Geno have been better off sitting for a year or two (or the first 6-8 weeks) to learn how to work an NFL offense before getting thrown to the wolves? I think so. The problem with Geno, as it was with Sanchez, is that being thrown into a below average offensive unit as a young QB builds bad habits. You reinforce the good habits in practice, if Geno had more time to build and practice the "good" habits we may not be seeing as many erratic performances. So in that sense, it may have been better for Sanchez (the lost cause) to go out there in get the shit get kicked out of him/ work with below-average weapons, instead of Geno (the raw, moldable talent).
This season Geno is having isn't all that different from Mark's rookie year. It's probably going to end up being worse in the end but it's not as far off from Sanchez's as you would think. Sanchez was not good his rookie year. He just didnt have the type of really really bad games (besides the Buffalo debacle) that Geno has had. People had more patience with Sanchez because he played his best football later on in the season as opposed to the beginning, and that's a good thing. But he was also on a much better team then Geno is currently on. That O-Line could protect Mark, and our D was a lot more complete then this one. Mark was consistently pretty poor his rookie. Geno's had more then a couple really really bad games this year, more then Mark had. But that doesnt make Sanchez good.
I agree. But I do believe this team would be more competitive with Mark. He is better than Geno right now. That does not make him good.
Agreed, we would definitely be better right now with Mark. But I would hope a 5th year veteran could outplay a rookie second rounder who is still learning.
The Jets ran the ball in 09 at an unbelievable rate. We rushed the ball 41 times against the Bengals and 39 times against SD. Mark was 12 for 23 against SD in the playoffs with 1TD and an INT for 100 yards. When your OL is absolutely dominating teams the QB job is to not screw it up. To Marks credit he didn't. What people forget about 09 is Mark practically played a SB contending team out of the playoffs. The Jets played D and ran themselves into the playoffs with a bad rookie QB. The Jets don't have the OL or the secondary to run them into the playoffs this year. Despite that the team is still in the hunt. Geno is worse then Mark this year but the Jets O is substantially worse then the Jets O in 09 and 10. The Jets O was about on this level in 11 and 12 and Mark didn't elevate the team at all in those years. This team is no worse off with Geno stinking it up then it was with Mark stinking it up the last 2 years.
