I hate to already be thinking about next year, and numerically we are not eliminated, but honestly can't imagine getting past the first round even if we managed to beat the odds and sneak in. So with that in mind ... who currently on the team gets to stay and try to make the team for next year? Kerley Salas Hill (going into year 3 - supposed to be "breakout" year) Sudfeld Cumberland (?) Would anyone keep any of the rest?
The name tag lady will be putting in some overtime next training camp. Skilled players, not linemen...6 total, probably 2 of those will still be injured with something.
What offensive skill players? Ivory, Kerley, and Hill stay Goodson, Powell, Cribbs, Bohanon, and Hilliard can fight for jobs in camp
Kerley is the only keeper from your list. I'd keep Ivory, Powell and Goodson. I like that each brings something different to the table. I haven't seen enough of Salas to comment. Lets see how he does the rest of the way but he looks like training camp depth at best. Its time to give up on Hill. Wasted pick, its another Mike Williams/Roy Williams/Charles Rodgers scenario with him. Sudfeld is in the same situation as Salas.. training camp depth and see if he progresses. Cumberland has good hands, can't say much else about him, he's slow and can't block. Sudfeld is bigger than Gronk, I'm wondering why he can't get on the field ahead of Cumberland. Maybe they're trying to develop him for next year but that doesn't fit the mold of this team... actually developing skill talent by having them sit and learn. Other than Kerley and seeing if Salas and Sudfeld can progress in training camp I don't want any other skill player (aside from RB's) to remain on the roster.
Powell and Ivory have been decent tandem in the backfield worth holding onto since running back is not the most glaring need. Plus we get Goodsen back if he isn't incarcerated  We need a receiving TE that is a beast, and a true #1 receiver....it also wouldn't hurt if we had a true leader behind center.
Assuming Goodson isn't doing time at Rahway, I agree with this. Hill should be on notice that '14 is his last shot.
Hill is on a cheap rookie contract with a ton of upside. He gets one more year before he has to earn his keep.
Kerley, Hill, Nelson, Salas at WR. Unless we draft a great RB, I would expect Powell, Ivory and Goodson to be a 3 headed monster (not very scary) again next year. All solid, none great. I hate our TE's. I don't expect Winslow to come back, but I'd be fine if he did. The others need to go. IMO, this is an even bigger need that WR. I know Eifert hasn't done much, but I was hoping the Jets drafted him. Dominant TE's have a huge effect on an offense.
WR: Kerley, Nelson, Salas. TE: Sudfeld, Cumberland, Winslow let them battle in camp. Winslow is a huge target with decent hands and can be a security blanket to Mark(if we indeed do bring him back) RB: I'd keep the 3 headed monsters of Powell, Ivory and Goodson(assuming he's not locked away) Then build through the draft.
why the fuck do people want to keep salas? i sometimes feel like this board is crazy when it comes to having fan favorites
Cumberland isn't slow - he might have issue staying healthy this year & is an average blocker at best, but he definitely isn't slow.
I have no problem bringing Salas into camp next year but if he wins a roster spot we failed in free agency.
He is a third year player that was drafted in the fourth round by the Eagles. He has good hands, and good size. Why wouldn't we keep him around to try and make the team next year?
I'll put it this way. The only offensive skill player I'd be upset seeing let go is Kerley. The rest of them can suck my dick. There are some developmental guys in Salas and Cumberland and Sudafed who could stay without hurting my feelings but I wouldn't care one bit if they were gone. Really, no one should. I hope Idzik goes heavy on WR's/TE's in free agency and the draft. We should be bringing in at least 4 new WR's, 2 new TE's and 2 new RB's. I'm talking LEGIT NFL players, not guys with good measurables who never did anything special at there position football wise in their lives. Let's see some real competition here Idzik. I don't want to hear this fucker talk about competition one more time before he shows us some actual competition.
Can't argue that - though I do believe you have to lump Hill in with Salas, Cumberland, & Sudfeld. What about Campbell - once we let Spadola go, you would think this kid would get a bigger shot. While our RB's might not be spectacular, I don't have a huge issue with them. They are productive when actually utilized, and if we had any hint of a passing game they would be more than adequate.
Jeremy Kerley- this goes without saying. Stephen Hill- only because he'll be in his 3rd year. Maybe he will breakout. Santonio Holmes- only because he can provide solid depth at the position. Goodson/Powell/Ivory- I want to see a full year with this trio. Jeff Cumberland- could be a good number 2 TE.
His 40 time is very good for a big guy but I don't think he plays fast in-game. Nelson wasn't mentioned by OP so I didn't comment on him but I'd like to see how he does with a full off-season here. He's a big target with good hands, which is something they needed since Hill seems to not be developing.
I'm really sour on Hill, don't think he'll ever be a good NFL receiver. Obviously I could be wrong, but I doubt it. I'd like to see us move away from him and give a legit NFL player who can contribute a chance to fill his roster spot. Campbell can SMD too.
They ALL can fight it out in TC as far as I'm concerned. There's NOT 1 offensive skill player that's good enough to be guaranteed a roster spot next year. That includes the board's favorites of Ivory and Kerley.
