1. Sheldon, Dee (Tavon over Dee but it just wasn't meant to be) 2. Geno Smith 3. Keenan Allen WR 4. Chris Ivory RB 5. Kenny Stills WR 6. Kenjon Barner RB 7. Zeke Motta S Didn't realize how much talent at the skill positions we passed over for a converted d lineman and backup tackle until I just now looked it over.
Agreed with some of your picks. 1(009): Sheldon Richardson DT 1(013): Cordarelle Patterson WR 2(039): Larry Warford OG 3(072): Mike Glennon QB 4(106): Traded for Christopher Ivory RB 5(141): Kenny Stills WR 6(178): Bacarrii Rambo S 7(217): Tommy Bohanon FB It's really all water under the bridge at this point. Some players play better in different systems, and what not.
Noodle Arm nailed it. and about Gio, he was taken in the second well ahead of our pick, and sorry RB's should not be taken in the first in today's day and age.
Idzik really needs to bring his A game this offseason. I didn't like the two offensive lineman he took at 5 and 6. The Jets just are not that good converting players and there was decent value still on the board. Some players he should get in free agency but his first 3 picks in this draft need to be offensive. I cannot remember the last time the Jets needed such an influx of talent on one side of the ball.
Of course you take a RB in the first if he produces as well as Bernard has. He's way better than Milliner after one season. No comparison.
Even tho Gio had a much better rookie season, RBs can be found day after day, and A+ potential CBs don't come around all that often. To say you would take Gio right now on this team over Dee is just stupid. We don't need a RB anyway. I mean yes I'd like him too, but CB is already a big weakness on this team, so take out the only young player showing potential, and you have a college rank CB group moving forward. No way you take any RB in round 1, unless they are Peterson good. It sucks not having a Martian on our team anymore, but deal with it. Our running game not being as elite as it was in 2009,2010 is a lot more to do with the OL, rather than the RB.
I still don't understand the Campbell pick. That's a guy you try to sign as a UDFA after the draft not a guy you spend a pick on.
The title of the thread is Draft do over. If you were doing the draft over today you would have to be pretty foolish to not take Gio over Milliner by a wide margin. Showing A+ potential doesn't really matter when you're not producing. Seriously, A+ for Milliner, that's reaching a bit, no? Dee was awful for most of this season and that's a fact. You have no idea if he'll ever produce at the same level that Bernard did in his rookie year. Bernard is one of the top 4 or 5 candidates for Offensive ROTY. So based on that, yes top 10 sounds about right and similar to where Dee was taken if you do the draft over. And Bernard's only going to get better with more carries as he's in a timeshare now. Our running game is average at best and the yards per game has more to do with an inept passing offense than elite RB's. Also you don't reach for need. The point of the draft is to take BPA and Gio would qualify as a top 10 BPA from his draft class at this point in his career. CB is still a big weakness on this team.
I like Kenny Stills, but I'm not sure he would have fixed the offense. We'd still probably want another WR this year. Edit: That's not to say I would have disliked the pick, just that he wouldn't have been as successful with the Jets as he's been with the Saints.
I liked our selections in the first 3 rounds. We messed up a bit in the mid rounds. I understood the logic behind it. They wanted to build up the o and d lines.
Still taking Dee in rd 1 when guys like Logan Ryan were available in 3? Kinda silly. You can find a much better impact player at 13 (or take Geno early to avoid losing the Keenan Allen pick) and get a better corner in round 3. Dee Milliner in 747 snaps: 53/103 (51.5%) 770 yds (14.5) 7TD/3INT/11PD 86.6 Passer Rating allowed Logan Ryan in 607 snaps: 27/53 (50.9%) 372 yds (13.8) 3TD/5INT(1 pick 6)/6PD 53.3 Passer Rating allowed (1.5 sacks on corner blitzes) and 1 FF Outside of redrafting Dee that haul would have probably had you guys in the playoffs assuming production was the same as they had on their current teams.
Dee played great in December for sure, but is the final 1/4 of his season what he will actually continue to be? I can ask the same about Logan as a rookie since guys like McCourty took a collossal step back in year 2 (before rebounding strongly in 3 and even more so in 4) but the first 3/4 of Milliners season DO mean something. And for comparison, the December stats of the 2: Dee Milliner: 19/38 (50.0%) 192 yds 1TD/3INT/5PD 40.6 Passer Rating Logan Ryan: 8/16 (50.0%) 130 yds 0TD/2INT/2PD 38.0 Passer Rating A case could have easily been made for either. Not sure why Dee was targeted so much, he had a pair of games where he was targeted 18 and 13 times (wk 16 and 17 repectively).
