more from Westhoff: http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/je...vre?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter
I was so glad to hear that Kotwica left. His one year was poor. I thought STs were a negative. I did see on ESPN that when asked about returning Westoff said he'd listen to the Jets about it. Which means he would. But after a year in the media with some criticism of the coaching staff, etc. although he never killed anybody on SNY or other venues I sure the Jets org is much too thin skinned to bring him back. But you never know.
0-16. Kotwica was given 16 opportunitys to take out some asshole running down the sidelines out of bounds but his missed every chance. There was at least two times that even Westoff would have stuck his cancer leg or cane out there and got the job done.
You mean this year? Since it was the only year he took over? I wouldn't say worst, but I don't think he did anything great either.
You can't blame Kotwica. All those later round draft picks traded over the years are the guys that should have become key special teams players. Without those picks, the depth and talent level of the lower end of the roster became depleted and then reflected in poor special teams play. The last couple of years under Westhoff saw a decline.
He cost us the Panthers game with that punt block up the middle for 6 when the game was still close. Even Westy said that should NEVER have happened. Adios.
big improvement from 2012 though. yep, wanted to play for an offensive guy that saw his high powered O's score a total of 26 pts in 3 playoff games.
Westhoff himself may have criticized some aspects of ST play during the SNY PostGame Show, but he also said the Jets had less talent available to use in ST.
I'm sure Westhoff criticized some aspects of the ST play from every game he ever coached. Part of the reason he retired was the shitty talent the Jets were giving him to work with.
I was not at all impressed with the Special Teams play this year. I actually thought it was the weakest link on an already thin team talent wise. Thanks to the commish, KR's and PR's were all but eliminated in the name of safety and I don't know how much that affected the overall game strategy regarding KO's and PR's. Perhaps not as much effort goes into those units now thanks to the never ending touchbacks we see nowadays. Any way, goodbye and good luck down in DC. I think Kotwica's gonna fit right in down there.
