He put himself in a dangerously low amount of calories for a guy his weight. On top of that he was doing a ton of cardio.

Props to him though, if that was his goal then he achieved it.

Unbelievable. It's amazing what cardio 4-5 days a week can do for you(in his case 6 days). Good for him.

This is really great news. It's rare for an ex-offensive lineman to put himself through the eye of the needle like that and get down to a healthy weight to live the rest of his life. He's probably past the danger zone also where the sudden weight loss can be taxing on the body and hazardous to the body's filter systems.

Real props to Faneca for pulling this off. He should start a business helping ex-players get down to "live to 75" weight.

I can't believe his knees are up to running a marathon after 13 years as an offensive lineman in the NFL. I am really amazed at that. The weight loss is also almost unbelievable.

It's a combination of many things, 1st & foremost something that most people lack & that is willpower. Cardio is part of it, but just as important is diet.

Ummm, NOT, the human body can sustain itself without any harm on that number of calories for a significant period of time. He was not an obese 600lb blob that eats 20,000 calories a day but claims it's his thyroid that's the problem.

Many NFL Linemen quickly "shrink" upon retirement. I could believe the size of Schlereth when he started doing TV.

I think a lot of it has to do with the change in ahem "dietary training regiment" and (clear throat again) diminished weight training work outs.

C'mon, these guys were never meant to be as big as they are, and they become more normal sized once they don't have to do it to earn the paycheck.

Yeah alot of lineman force themselves to stay fat and then when its over alot of them lose weight...Really cause life expectancy wouldnt much that high if they stayed that fat

I'm sure steroids or lack of steroids has NOTHING to do with his radical change.

So you're saying that he can't get ahold of some steroids if he wanted to? I think you need to wake up & smell the coffee, if he wanted to do steroids he has EVERY opportunity to do it, there is no drug testing for retired players.

To suggest that PEDs don't play a HUGE role in NFL as well as other sports is very naive.

Yeah but 1800 calories is a major caloric defecit for a 340 LB man. On top of that he was burning a good amount of calories from the cardio. Its not good or anything to brag about. Congrats he lost the weight but the way he went about it was pretty stupid. 1800 calories is TDEE for a 140 LB person not a 340 LB person, and thats without any sort of cardio either.

    This ^

He's not making a living from running marathons, he doesn't need to take PEDs.

He's looks and sounds like a goal-oriented individual who has set a goal to take care of his family by taking care of himself; this a guy who battled epilepsy en route to a 9x All-Pro NFL career.

    Good for him.

I still remember what a mistake it was letting him go...He was medicore in the pass block or run block cant remember but the other part of his game was stellar.

I know what it takes to run a marathon and I am a mere 135 pounds. The fact that he did this after so many years as a lineman is downright extraordinary. I couldn't move for a few days after the race. Good for him.
