Sorry don't see what the hype is. He will never start. Great cover corner, but misses about a lot of his tackles and has to go for the legs all the time. Idzik got screwed on this pick. Whomever told him teams were going to take McDougle was lying or smoking weed.
it is a ncie story, and its always great to see someone works hard.... but tim tebow worked hard too. it comes down to talent, intelligence, and execution.
If that is true, I'll take it I'd rather have a corner who misses a few tackles, but hardly gets beat than a corner who has great tackling techniques, yet consistently gets beat by opposing receivers (ala Kyle Wilson)

Randy Edsall knows DB talent. He was Coughlin's DB coach with the Jags. He routinely recruited raw athletes at Uconn & groomed quite a few into NFL caliber defensive backs. Darius Butler & Tyvon Branch both come to mind. The fact that he is so high on McDougle is a very encouraging sign. I don't know alot about Mcdougle otherwise. He looks smooth,instinctive & has a nice burst on the highlight reels..but those are just that..highlight reels. One thing I can offer is that the main knock on McDougle may not have been totally his doing.Tony Pauline & others have mentioned that he gives up alot of ground/completions underneath.But that's Edsall's scheme. He plays alot of cover 2 & quarters off-man. Keep the WR in front of you & take away the big play.This will be fairly obvious to anyone familiar w/ his program. Kid's got a chance.But so does every player drafted into this league.
Thanks for the informative post. I was not at all aware of Edsall's NFL background and all that implies regarding his outlook on McDougle. With all the referenced superlatives (e.g. intelligence, work ethic, desire, etc) taken together with his solid on the field skills and traits, we should have every reason to be optimistic that he can overcome any shortcomings in his game and overall quality of play given sufficient time, training and experience to do so.
Can be. He had a hand injury in highschool, broke a bone falling off a scooter in his collegiate freshman year (non-football) and dove at the knees of a tight end messing up his shoulder in his senior year. I'd be more concerned with him re-aggravating a previous injury than I would for his penchant for getting injured on the football field.
This kid hasn't played a snap in the NFL and you say this bullshit? You better pray you are right going forward, or some posters here are going to make you look pretty bad.
