Please idzik!!!! We still got plenty of cap and we missed out on all other corners in free agency. Im not sold on the hype about mcdougle so far to the point id say no to flowers . This would be a great pick up IMO I've always liked flowers (more so earlier in his career) but he's still young
This would be such a great move. I hope the fact that he added Patterson in FA and McDougle in the draft doesn't stop Idzik from going for it.
This is true, he had an awful year in Suttons defensive system. However, Flowers was asked to do more then he has in previous years. Usually he just stuck on the left side, last year, he was all over the field. I think with the coaching of Rex, he can adjust.
Wonder how many more will drop once training camp gets on the way. Yet like Jake said. What the Hell kick the tires and see what his rate is.
I could go either way on Flowers. I don't doubt he'd help this team or that he could be had for a reasonable price.Flowers & Milliner offers pretty good size, physicality & covering ability.Additionally, he'd bring a calming veteran presence to what is turning into a very young back end(Assuming Pryor/Allen are your starting safeties) That said there is another part of me that wants to see this current competition play out among the CBs. There are alot of candidates already on the roster who are more than capable of stepping up. Patterson,Walls,Wilson,Lankster,Dowling,Patrick,Reeves,Mcdougle & Dixon. There's some ability in that group. I have a hard time believing that not one of those guys is capable of becoming a very good #2 corner to compliment Milliner & this suddenly formidable safety tandem. I do believe we'll see one more mid level signing as TC approaches. I'm not sure I'd rather see some help at Edge rusher,#2 WR,coverage LB or O-line.
We've gone through this before, and the concern is a competition might not yield one effective starter. Wilson is the slot guy, Walls a proven backup with no real upside promise, Patterson an average at best when he's on the field but with some injury issues. McDougle i can't speak to, but from what I've read he's not all that promising. Maybe down the road. The rest are not much to speak of. Flowers would allow the jets to focus on the other areas you mention. There's cap space. Solve one problem at a time with it.
I still cannot warm up to the idea that milliner is our # 1 cb,,,,,i hope he proves me wrong but I am not sold on the last few games last year,,,,,,,I would much prefer he start the season as our second best corner and earn the title of # 1 as the games progress,,,,,we really need a cb on this team that leaves us no doubt as to whether or not he can play and is solid,,,,,i don't know if flowers is that guy but I sure would hate to start the season with questions at both cb positions
Bleh. If he's cheap, than mayyybe. But I'm a believer in McDooDoo. He gonna pick 6, and do the McDougie in the endzone.
If the price is right, they should look at him - but Idzik should not run to this guy's rescue. Flowers has struggled BADLY in press coverage. Also, we should remember Bob Sutton is the DC over in KC and has done a great job. If he has taken anything from Rex, Flowers may struggle as a NYJ also. This is a low priority, we have like 8 CBs on the roster let's see what they have to offer. People need to stop overrating Flowers as if he's the answer to all of the Jets problems. No real upside promise? Does that make any sense? A player with upside ALWAYS will have a chance at not living up to the hype. Patterson when healthy has played some pretty good games, but his main concern has been durability. McDougle just finished his first OTA practice OFF an injury so this is also a wash so you really don't have proof as to what this guy can bring to the table until you've seen him practice with pads.
I do not think the Jets will consider many moves this early in the season, unless is someone that has been high on their radar. They will wait until they know what they really have in house during the first phase of training camp. All being equal this team is moving towards youth and giving the rookies a chance to develop by playing. Injuries and inadequate performance will of course change that, but it's way too early to make unplanned moves.
Not sure about Flowers...could take it or leave it. Depends on what Rex thinks of the corners we already have, of course; how they looked in OTAs. But more competition is always a good thing if we can get him for a reasonable price. Keep in mind we will need a ton of cap space for guys like Wilkerson, Richardson, Coples, Pryor, etc, not to mention Geno going forward. Also, I heard that CB Chris Houston was released by the Lions. Is he any good? http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/11078689/detroit-lions-release-cornerback-chris-houston
I've always been a huge fan of Brandon Flowers. I think we should absolutely go for it, if the price is right.
Stop..he's a midget and that's why he was released. He doesn't fit the requirements for a CB in the current NFL.
He's coming off a down year but he's been a pretty consistent player in years past. At 28 he's definitely worth a look.
He came off Bob Sutton Defense wich is Ryans defense mostly, and he played badly so I doubt he would start. I would put him in camp and he could prove an asset as he knows the style of defense.
This dudes not a good fit for our defense. He's probably going to go to Atlanta. As for Chris Houston, he too, struggled in zone and he's got injury concerns and we have enough injury prone guys in our secondary...Pass.
