IF Hill doesnt pan out this year for some reason i think we're still kinda fucked at WR. Bad enough Deck is about to be our number one (could work out but im not sure bc i havent seent it yet) but we all know he's more well fit for the #2, I just dont want another santonio holmes situation (production wise) from moving a #2 to a #1. That leaves the rest of the guys who are all really fit to be slot WR's. Im also not too sure how i feel about Kerley possibly having to be our #2. Damn that Hakeem Nicks 1 yr deal woulda been sweet here.
I don't think you can make those claims until you see Decker in the number one spot. Granted, Manning had a lot to do with Decker's success, but he has been impressing the shit out of people so far in camp. I wouldn't hold much value to the number system either when it comes to wide receivers. If we have a multitude of weapons, including a pass catching tight end and a loaded backfield, having a "number one" receiver isn't necessarily a must. Look at Seattle. They don't have a true number one guy on their squad either. Talent spread out is what I am looking for.
The 2 TE set is something that is an exciting prospect. Amaro & Cumberland seem to compliment each other well. Cumberland is perfect for down the seam & outside the numbers while Amaro finds space in the short/intermediate flats. TE's are hard to keep healthy so that will need to be a priority. I highly doubt we ever see all 3 on the field at the same time. I like Sudfield as the #3 & to fill a role for a few games if one of them happens to go down though. The internal dilemma is unless we're going empty backfield, the 2 TE set removes the slot receiver from the field. Whether that is Kerley or Saunders, that appears to be another position of strength for the Jets. Not exactly a bad problem to have & would likely be resolved as predicated by the situation
That's not entirely true. I think Evans , Nelson, Salas (who is having a good camp fwiw) and even Ford can play opposite Decker.
damn i forgot all about Nelson honestly.. whats up with the shaq evans kid i havent heard a damn thing about him yet.
They have Percy Harvin. But true, he barely played during their SB run. So would rather have Golden Tate and Doug Baldwin or Decker and Hill?
Interesting that Rex talked about that. That would actually be a great lineup in the middle of the field, in between the 20s, I think, provided it is spread out. I wouldn't do it in short yardage or in goalline because it would bunch everyone up and make them a little one dimensional, but you put that lineup out there in the middle of the field on 1st or 2nd down and you could find some mismatches. I don't exactly know who the defense would put on one of those guys if they motioned out wide. If it's a corner thats a size advantage, if it's a safety or LB then it opens up the middle of field for either the run game or one of the other options. For Cumberland who is speedier, I don't think a LB or most safeties could keep up with him on the outside. I think the best part is that it could be deadly in the screen game, now that they acquired a home run hitter in Chris Johnson. You spread them out a little and run an outside misdirection screen to Johnson with two of those big TEs out in front blocking and a play like that is tough to stop.
Hard know know much about him when he only had 5 receptions last year, I remember he had good form and played aggressive on a couple of plays, but he's pretty much an unknown unless you want to watch some Patriots preseason games.
He caught a handful of balls throughout the 2nd half of last season. He's a big agile target, decent hands but likely below average speed. He's not gonna threaten up the seam like Cumberland or Amaro but he has a decent catching radius & performs when called upon.I don't recall any drops. He's an ideal back-up for the tandem of Cumberland & Amaro.

I think he's like 7'-6" and weights around 30 pounds wet. Dudes like a #2 pencil with hands hahaha. Seems like he'd break in half if hit by someone like Harris. But Randy Moss struck me the same way so Sudfed has to be good.
Ford is a kickoff return specialist, not a true wideout. Yes, he's very fast, but he's just too small and light to succeed as a wide receiver at the NFL level. Nelson is a tough, capable possession receiver, but he's nowhere near the same level as Decker. Greg Salas played on 4 teams in his first 4 years (yikes) and has so far been considered a fringe NFL talent. He could end up being good, but I don't think we can be very confident about him at this point. If Hill can't be the "#1" guy, then we'll have to hope that one of the rookies can- or try forcing Nelson into that role and hoping for the best. Maybe the answer will be to run a lot of 2 TE sets.
Hill grew up in Backwater, Georgia and spent his entire life in that state, including college. We all know how little he learned about receiving there- he was a run blocker, they rarely passed, etc. But he just turned 23 two months ago. He's still a baby! Give him time to develop. If he was 26 or so and had been around for 5 seasons and was still at this level then yes, cut him as a bust. But at age 23, with 2 incomplete seasons? He HAS shown flashes in the past- maybe he'll put it together this season. And if he does have a season like 2013 again, I'd still give him a 4th year- He has that much potential as a frontline receiver, and isn't that what we all want, a home-grown young, cheap pass catcher? It would've been nice if he walked in the door and was Randy Moss but the potential to eventually reach that level is there. I'd hate to see another team reap the rewards of our development just because we're impatient.
No. he's got a training camp. There's enough guys fighting for a spot this year where we aren't gonna just give away a spot to Hill. He's got to earn it
