I remember before the internet, heck before electricity, Cimini's rag was the only glimpse into Jet football. Only a small blurb once a week. Never on the back page (that belonged to the G-Girls). Zero during the off season.
Was I supposed to give it a flying fuck? Since when? Best remedy against internet trolls is to ignore them after all.
LOL Check the first comment: http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/jets/post/_/id/40349/training-camp-preview-tight-end Joey Cimino · New Jersey City University Update on the "Replace Rich Cimini Movement": I Called ESPN NY (Phone # is 646-699-6800) this morning. I had to transfer to the Promotions and Finance Department (Extension 4) to to speak with a person, who took down my information and the reason for my call. I also sent a letter to the ESPN New York webmaster ( http://sports.espn.go.com/new-york/radio/news/story?page=ESPNNYContact ). I'm gonna keep up this routine for the next week. Click the link below to sign the petition to have Rich Cimini replaced as the Jets beat writer for ESPN! https://www.change.org/petitions/espn-replace-rich-cimini-as-beat-writer-for-the-new-york-jets Rich Cimini frequently makes factual mistakes and typos in his articles, contradicts his own views and opinions in his previous posts, and generally antagonizes his readers (The Jets fan base) with overly negative coverage of the New York Jets. He also uses his position of authority to create false controversies, and his articles frequently feature a glib tone which, frankly, is not befitting of a professional organization such as ESPN. By the way - I will post this link on every single Jets post, every single day that I possibly can. I will send this link to every Jets fan I know, and post it on as many message boards as I can. I am SICK AND TIRED of Rich Cimini. Reply · · 54 minutes ago
How about Joe Caparosa from Turn on the Jets? How about Jeff Cappellini from CBS? How about a slew of other no-name beat writers and web sources that are more informed and entertaining that any of the major media cronies. I haven't clicked on Cimini's page in a couple of years and avoid ESPN mostly because of him and from the negative tone the whole company carries about the Jets. I don't mind criticism, but bashing is nothing more than sensationalist TMZ type reporting.
Cimini kind of sucks but change.org petitions are for losers. ESPN would wipe their asses with that. Cimini brings them readers and that's all they care about. Every team's fan base hates their beat writers anyway. There's probably a petition for every single one of ESPN's team writers. This is nothing new. We don't even have it that bad really - try being irrelevant like Buffalo, where you get less information overall, from beat writers who don't give a fuck and are just using the job as a stepping stone. At least we are a destination job, as fans we have ESPN NY, tons of newspapers with a multitude of choices for beat writers, coverage other fans would dream of...
Do you have a better solution? I applaud you guys for taking action. He is a smarmy, know-it-all that really doesn't. And he is very negative for a beat reporter. I like some of what he does and he's good enough on camera for ESPN to keep him but I'd prefer someone else represent the Jets on the four-letter network. Craparoso is not in his league, however.
I like the guys from Turn on the Jets - great gifs, and even better articles. They also interact with their fans via Twitter - for any articles, I go to TOJ. They more than likely don't get any of the attention because they maybe considered as homers (there's that word again) outside of the Jets fan-base.
Mature response from a mature poster. NVM the fact that they provide plenty of good articles with supporting details and tape from the game (which Cimini has failed to do in any of his articles). Yeah, that's not important at all.
I think it's fair to claim they are homers IMO as well. Big-time homers. They believe every move was the best possible move on the planet and that the Jets (especially Idzik) can never be questioned. They offer counter-balance to Cimini, I guess.
You guys can call them whatever you choose - my point is they write better articles then Cimini and provide good supporting details with visuals from the game. Regards to your bold part, I'm not sure about that - I'm sure they have put out articles that show they don't agree with particular Jet moves. I'm not a fan of Cimini and his willingness to throw stupid snarling remarks in each article. All he does is throw numbers onto a page, he has all of the resources in the world yet puts out shit.
Dude. TOTJ is a blatant homer site. Cimini may be an anti-Jets element, but promoting the complete opposite is not much of a defense.
i don't think this is true at all. not many fan bases have to deal with a sour faced hater as their top beat representative. With the Jets their seems to be this notion that negativity sells better, and ESPN certainly falls in line with that thinking. Cimini's unlikeable schtik certainly wouldn't fly in a place like Pittsburgh. Cimini needs to go, and a new approach taken on covering the Jets. It's long overdue.
I think it's more of an east coast thing, although you can find a few beat writers here and there that fans don't like. Ask Pats fans how much they like their beat writers, and their team has been romanticized for close to two decades by the national media.
Again, my point is what other Jets beat writer presents tape highlights from the game in GIFs? Compare any post-game analysis between these 2 parties. Who presents the more detailed anaysis? You can call them a homer or whatever you choose - but the fact of the matter STILL remains - they present more detailed information. Cimini could still be anti-Jets and create good articles - but he doesn't.
Steeler fans hate their ESPN beat writer Scott Brown. Their criticisms sound a lot like that of ours and Cimini. Patriot fans REALLY hate their ESPN beat writer. Buffalo's ESPN beat writer used to be New England's and got reassigned. He doesn't know shit about them. That sounds a little worse than Cimini to me... Beat writers are generally hated, this is nothing new. I don't know if Cimini is any better or any worse than the others, my guess is he's quite average. At least he's a Jets guy and knowledgeable about the team. I'm not going to cry over and over about the petty shots he takes, it's lame.
I don't think ESPN has good beat writers period. Journalism as a whole IMO has taken a big step backwards. In a society where social media and everything is at your finger-tips. I don't see the creativity. I think there are some good writers outside of ESPN / NYDN - but very scarce.
