And the point is you don't know definitively that his hands won't improve with time, and catching all those balls like Revis did is a luxury no team needs to rely on in a corner so if that truly is his biggest weakness in the end then that's no weakness at all. The only thing you should be thinking about Dee right now is that it's awesome Idzik appears to have gotten what he paid for with the 9th pick and if he ever figures out how to catch a bit too he'll be worth a lot more than that coming out of last year's weak class. Either that or 'shit I hope that high ankle sprain doesn't completely bone this defense all year'. Those are pretty much the two acceptable thoughts right about now.
Let's practice some self discovery. Do you think Revis's low INTs are a result of him dropping a ton of would be INTs?
You should be thinking about not telling another groan man what to think about. Beyond that I don't know that his hands won't improve; I said so much in my last post. I do know they are not good right now. Also, I don't know if Idzik got what he paid for with the 9th pick. I personally would not draft a CB with subpar ball skills top 10. For my money only CBs with superb ball skills and added return ability deserve to be picked in the top 10.
Name 2 or 3 guys that Idzik should've taken with the 9th pick that would've been considered reasonable picks at the time of selection instead of Milliner? Should be extremely easy, you've got a whole year of hindsight to work with.
It's one of the hardest positions to judge objectively. I don't think his hand skills are a concern one way or another until year 3+. Side note: Dude, proof read that shit before you post it man.
I've never said he didnt look awful. But it's one game, the first preseason game. His first game back since week 6 of last season nonetheless. I've seen players look really good, in one preseason game and go on to have terrible years. I've also seen players have bad preseason games and go on to have good years. All i'm saying is that it's one game. I think people are overreacting. Personally, I don't know what Patterson is going to be for us this season. But i'm not willing to write him off after the first preseason game of the year.
In case anyone else thought I was selling him short. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1612629-dee-milliner-scouting-report-nfl-outlook-for-alabama-cb http://www.nfl.com/combine/profiles/dee-milliner?id=2540146 http://insider.espn.go.com/nfl/draft/player/_/id/30220/dee-milliner?refresh=true http://www.sbnation.com/nfl-mock-draft/2013/3/19/4121916/dee-milliner-2013-nfl-draft-scouting-report
I'm not saying Idzik "should not" have drafted him. I'm just saying I would not draft a CB with questionable hands and does not give me anything in the return game in the top 10. I just prefer to get as much value as I can when drafting a CB really high. Honestly, the main problem I had with the selection at the time was the fact we drafted a CB with a first pick after trading away Revis. I thought it would put all this unnecessary pressure on the poor kid that it would hinder his performance. Dee's performance was indeed poor for the better part of last year but to his credit it wasn't because of any pressure. All that extracurricular stuff seem to not phase him at all.
It's not a concern. Like someone already said having a CB with great hands is really a luxury. That said; that's a luxury that I pretty much expect to get when investing a top 10 pick in my CB. When you shell out extra for the luxury model of a car you expect to get more than what you would in the standard model.
Newsflash. College isn't the NFL. Tebow won the damn Heisman trophy and didn't do SHIT in the NFL aside from starting a cult.
While there is legitimate concern that Pryor may get penalized for his style of play in the NFL, the same can be said for Denard. Denard held A LOT in college; it was like part his game. A lot of the stuff he was doing in MSU, he will not get away with in the NFL.
If anything these injuries allow us to put more pressure on the other guys to step up and get it done. We'll get a much better chance to evaluate the other talent until Milliner comes back. I love that Allen tore it up today. Perhaps he can be our go to guy in the future.
( I posted this in a different thread) I compared AA's combine results with Richard Sherman's numbers to see if he has the speed and agility to play corner. Sherman's numbers are better but not significantly so. I'm not saying Allen can be Sherman but it seems the potential is there, a very encouraging sign. And if Rontez Miles can continue to impress the coaches we may end up with a new corner and a new SS as a result of the CB injuries. Might actually turn out to be a blessing.
So let me get this straight... you guys are blaming your GM for two fluke injuries to the same position on the same day? Tough group over here...
Just the ones that wanted to say I Told You So about FA and draft picks and were waiting for any old excuse to do it.
First of all wasn't McDougle coming off a injury in college? There were better CB's out there and they weren't injured last year. Secondly, Revis wanted to come back, but Idzik didn't want him. A backfield of Revis and Milliner would have been excellent and our D could have possibly been number 1, taking pressure off of our offense.
