What "know issues" did he have? Btw, I keep seeing posters mentioning him being a 7th round pick. He was a 6th rounder. _
No way you can judge Tajh on a few rookie moments in an exhibition game. He probably will never get a real chance to play and start in the NFL. If he's lucky like Greg McElroy he'll go on the NFL merry-go-round until he gets tired of getting cut, etc. At least Greg had a start and played a little. Matt Simms is now in the same situation.
Ok I didn't know that. Like I said if we get down to our 3rd string QB we are done for the season no matter who he is.
How can you have any kind of comparison between a QB playing in his first NFL preseason game and a WR playing against another team in his first or second NFL preseason action? There really is no relevance. The poster probably never heard of Janis until he was in camp and got a few lines in a write up. Bitch about the pick, bitch about Rex maybe doing Boyd a favor by drafting him but my post was about the "I told you so" which was inferred in his post about a 7th round pick.
I don't know why anyone would think Simms or Boyd would play a regular season game baring catastrophic injury to both Geno and Vick when Kevin Kolb is a phone call away.
If Geno gets hurt and Vick comes in then there's a good chance we will see Simms,Vick is always one play away from injury. So as long as Geno stays healthy there's nothing to worry about
Well JS, here's some info on that... http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...-80k-in-debt-for-gambling-are-false-says-boyd http://www.usatoday.com/story/sport...yd-gambling-debt-rumor-media-meeting/3168445/ Not sure how much of that is true but the allegations alone are disturbing for a kid trying to get into the NFL. Maybe its nothing, maybe there's some smoke here. Either way, appears to be a wasted pick.
Boyd was a stupid draft pick anyway. He never had NFL ability, too small, terrible accuracy. Very overrated in college. He played with superstar receivers and running backs at Clemson and still was rather underwealming considering. Just Rex wanting to take his son's college buddy.
It wasnt a great pick but most 6th and 7th rounders don't pan out anyway. You might as well close your eyes and take a name out of a hat at that point. You always hear about the 2 or 3 players who became something after being drafted in the later rounds, but they don't mention the thousands or players who got cut and became nothing
Imo the Jets are more likely to see their 3rd string Qb take the field this year than the average odds of such occurring. While I happen to like the Vick signing, until he shows durability there is certainly a significant risk of injury.
Boyd is one of the few college QBs Rex actually sat in the stands and watched play. There's probably 50 QBs in that lower tier that may go in the 6/7th round, so why not grab one you've actually seen play and play well?
Maybe Rex drafted Boyd to push Simms for the 3rd spot? If Boyd works out, well then it's a great move and if he doesn't Simms is still standing after fighting off a real challenge for his roster spot?
That right there is probably the most you can hope for from a 7th round QB selection. Plus another arm to run shit in training camp.
At one point, Boyd was playing well and then played well in his Bowl game; so Rex did do some HW on him. I liked Boyd but I really liked Garappolo as a QB pick 100 times more than Boyd. Why couldn't a scout recognize that one??? As I recall we did go further and interview both Garappolo and Boyd. Absolutely pathetic loss to this team. JG broke records in College and now NE has a legitimate future for them after Brady. Instead, Rex listens to his son and goes to a Clemson game (burp on the hot dogs). So they settled on Boyd to be like another Vick but it appears that is hardly working out. Apparently, Despite JG's great accomplishments Morningwhig only wants run and gun WCO type of QB?? Dunno what's going on with this stupid team.
TBH i hadn't heard of either QB before the draft, but now it looks like Garappolo may have been the pick. But then NE would have taken Boyd and we'd be having the same conversation maybe?
Its funny we always blame the QB's for sucking when they come here and all the QB's that go to New England seem to be the next superstars... Maybe its not the QB's but our fucking coaching?
Don't know if I agree with this mentality. If your scouting department is doing their job, you can find good players in the 6th or 7th. Look at Double A. Whether or not they make the team is a whole different story. If you have a good and deep roster, it's probably a good thing that a good 6th or 7th round draft pick did not make the roster. Talent-wise Taj was not worth a draft pick but I think the FO and coaching staff liked the intangibles he brings, Rex's affinity to Clemson aside. When drafting that late, I prefer going for the talent with the hope that my coaching staff can develop that talent. Given the choice I would have drafted a guy like Stephen Morris. Morris lacks Taj's intangibles but was at the top of the class with regards to arm talent and athleticism. Every GM has their own approach.
wtf are you even talking about? Garappolo was a fucking 2nd round pick. Of course every scout in the world had him ranked way higher than Boyd.
