Id say he is more of a mobile qb than a running qb though.....Ill take Winston or Mariota at this point
And I would agree. And I'd try Mariota on for size in Jet green in a New York minute. Winston?....I get the "potential circus" heebie-jeebies when I think of him in the bright lights/big city (and big "shark" media) of New York. I dunno..
I agree about Winston but no denying his talent....Id much rather Mariota but probably need a top 5 pick to get him
Mariota is a running QB who rushes on average 10 attempts a game, plus I would stay away from Oregon as they have never produced anything worthy of starting NFL QB talent.
We have a shot against the Patriots. The Broncos are going to doo doo on us. The Chargers beat Seattle at home which isn't a positive sign but I think that one is winnable as well.
To the coaching staffs credit when Geno was stinking in November they stuck with him and he had that decent 4 game stretch to end the year. I even wanted him benched. So I'm willing to trust their judgement I hope they are right again.
I think not. A passing QB who has outstanding mobility. Actually he rushes under 8 times a game which is not far off from what Rogers used to do in college. Dan Fouts says hi. _
it's a tough call. i had hoped Vick would never see the field. However, if we were to start him at all, this would be the week to do it imo. otherwise ride with Geno all year to see whether or not we need to draft a first round QB next year. hate to say it, but i'm leaning towards giving Vick a shot during this tough stretch.
This is what I'd do if Geno plays well then fine. If he struggles in the 1st half you give him the start of the 3rd. If he struggles you put in Vick for the rest of the game. After the game when they ask who starts next week without hesitation you say Geno. You don't want this QB controversy lingering. Against Denver if he struggles you give him the half. Then you start Vick in the 3rd. They ask the question again you give the same answer. Against the Pats if Geno struggles you bench him at the half and then you ride with Vick the rest of the year or until he gets hurt.
You got me, god bless Google. Other than Dan Fouts in the early 70s, Oregon is not known for producing NFL QB talent. And do you ever watch Oregon? They have designed running plays for him, and they run a lot of read option. Aaron Rodgers did not do that.
Yes but you can't underjudge a player solely on where he went to school. A some point the mold gets broken and you don't want to miss that one opportunity. If you watch Mariota, he looks like the real deal and not because the talent base of Oregon is so much better than the talent base of everyone they are playing. And maybe we'll start seeing more NFL talent out of Oregon now that they've become one of the hottest schools to go to. _
Yes I can underjudge a QB/ any other on where they went to school, but I am not soley undervaluing Mariota that he went to Oregon, I undervalue him because he runs the read option. NFL teams typically do not run that offense, nor has any team that has run that offense been successful in the NFL I undervalue him because his passing progression is limited to 1 read. He is not a smart quarterback. He arm is average/ average plus. I disagree that we will see more QB talent out of Oregon. We may see more RB talent.
I watch as many Oregon games as I can, saw about 8 last year and 2 this year. He has tremendous mobility and he can run if need be, but he's a passer first. Go watch Terrell Hunt for my Orangemen. HE'S a running QB. _
i wouldn't jerk the QBs around like that. I'd either decide to give Vick the next 3 games, then reassess.....OR ride with Geno all season for better or worse. As an impatient fan, i'm leaning toward giving Vick these games, to hopefully give a spark to this season. However, i believe they will stick to the rebuilding approach, and essentially use this season to see what they have in Geno. can't say i like that.....but of course if Geno does develop then it was a great idea to stick to guns (and if not, a terrible idea to stick to guns. lol)
I guess then that we'll have to disagree on this one. If we're anywhere near the top 3-4 next May I hope we move heaven and earth to move up to get him. _
I mean you compared Aaron Rodgers collegiate career to Mariota.... That's why I wondered. Aaron Rodgers didnt run 1/4 of what MAriota did.
I see your point. I just believe that if you're struggling your spot shouldn't be guaranteed. Geno should know that shit play can and will get him benched. That's the purpose behind the benching. Vick is a vet he'll be ready whenever he's called.
Agree to disagree. I hope we get bryce petty and go down the pocket passer pro style route, you want new age QBs with mobility. Healthy debate is fair.
Yeah, but you know who did run as much as Mariota? Andrew Luck. It's moot anyways, because I think Mariota will be drafted in the top 5, and the Jets should _never_ be picking there.
You said he was a running QB evidenced by him rushing for 10 attempts a game. He's under 8, designed or not and Rogers ran for 6 a game. Hunt rushes for 15 a game. That dude from Northern Illinios ran for 20 a game. Those are running QBs. Rogers is a passing QB that has tremendous mobility and can run with the best of them whenever he wants. That's the way I look at Mariota. He's not coming into the league as a dual threat guy like RG3 or Kaep or Cam, he'll be a passer first with the ability to run when needed, in the mold of Wilson or Luck. JMHO. _
