title is correct, we are using him wrong. we are giving him carries tht should go to ivory and powell
"A position we're deep at" - please stop, we kept future hall of famers AJ Edds and Nick Bellore over him.
We have inside linebackers filling out our roster, but we certainly don't have quality depth at the position if that's what you're suggesting. We have one star, one average starter, and a handful of nobodies.
While Johnson isn't the player he once was I'm not entirely sure how much his current level of production, or lack thereof, is a function of his diminished abilities, the way he is being used or a combination of the two. While he clearly still has above average speed, he appears to have lost that instantaneous burst of low end acceleration he once had and seems to need an additional step or two to get going. I think a back like CJ needs a clear and open lane so he can get up to speed and take off which means he does need to get the ball with some measure of space, be it originating in the backfield, on a screen, option, draw play or lined up as a slot receiver. I remember watching him in his first preseason game this year and getting the distinct impression that he still had plenty of burst and speed. Maybe it's me, but the plays when his number has been called this year, our O-line has been less than impressive in opening holes for him and often are allowing penetration into our backfield and clogging lanes almost instantly. We don't seem to be doing much at blocking at the second level either. Again, it may just be me but it seems that there is a listlessness and predictability to the running plays called for Johnson. Ivory, on the other hand, somehow makes it seem like much of what I've been saying doesn't carry much weight at all. Ivory is certainly better at breaking tackles and fighting for extra yardage with his strength and toughness but Johnson, despite being tall and a little lanky for a featured back, was not always so easy and ready to go down upon initial contact. Something(s) isn't (aren't) quite right but I just haven't been able to figure out exactly what.
Ivory only be having like 10 more yards than CJ every game lol! I know he isn't ripping long runs like were used to seeing in tennessee but he's also a pretty tough runner for a speed back. I see him fighting for the extra 3,4 yards after contact.. He gets hit hard as hell he but when he gets low he breaks tackles just like the long run he had yesterday. hopefully he found some confidence after that TD.
Chris Ivory had 40 more yards than Johnson against Oakland. He had 22 more yards against Green Bay. He had 40 more yards against Detroit. Chris Ivory has over 100 more yards than Johnson and has a much higher ypc. Are you watching the same games?
Lol i just noticed the stats i was looking at was total yards.. was lookin at the yards thru my fantasy league app.
His TD run against Detroit when bounced outside from the hole that never materialized was a nice demonstration that Johnson still has well above average speed and good enough acceleration provided he gets a couple of steps of space to build steam.
He was only active for THREE of them. They didn't even dress him on Sunday. LOL, he sucks ... apparently you do cut a 4th round developmental player if he's your punt returner and he can't catch punts.
right. 10 yards per game. 1.4 yards per carry more, on average. And Ivory punishes a defense. Johnson shouldn't be seeing the field except in obvious passing situations, and long down/distance, or the 4th qtr.
The problem with Chris Johnson in a football roll is it involves him playing football which he is not good at.
Please, the guy has more Pro-Bowls then the rest of our roster combined. He may not be as good as he was (or better than Ivory), but on our d-gsh-t offense, he's a standout.
