I know him getting released (and likely getting back to PS) hurts but it's just the same as if he was on PS already...except when he was here, he didn't do much in terms of at the WR spot. Literally it has been only 3-4 WR's the Jets have used at a time...Decker has been in and out of the lineup so far this season, Nelson has been out there but rather ineffective, Kerley is Kerley aka mr. reliable more times then not, and then Salas. Hakim, Powell, Saunders really haven't done worth squat on the offensive side yet...even when you have speed burners like Hakim and Saunders to a lesser extent, these guys have seen maybe a handful worth of snaps so far? It says a lot about their lack of progression so far in this offense that the CS doesn't believe they can contribute yet on offense. At least with Graham, he has similar type of speed and a bit more size (5'11")...we'll see what he can do but obviously he may make more of an impact on this offense then the guys who were on the roster...hope he can at least stretch the field
My memory is kinda shot but I remember Seattle doing all sorts of cuts and adds their first couple or carrol years- I used to laugh Maybe this is just the process- swing and miss but keep swinging...
Not trying to get back into this argument because Hill is no longer with the team and this is a moot point, But Hill and Saunders are roughly a year apart in age. Any "Unknown" with Saunders should have been outweighed by the fact that he has the body type of a 15 year old girl. He obviously needed to bulk up and fill out his frame before he would be a serviceable WR and showed nothing in the return game that would merit him taking that spot outright from anyone. This was sadly another case where "competition" meant draft picks getting first crack at whatever spot they were drafted for. Obviously they were concerned about him being picked up on someone else's PS but that's a risk we should have taken. There are so many players on the team that can fair catch and or try and wiggle for a few yards. I would have liked to see an actual competition for our return spots as I'm not confident about any of the people they're putting back there now and no one has done anything to earn that confidence. Whenever the ball is punted to us I cringe a little bit. We're seeing the pain that's inflicted from these moves in our futile red-zone offense.. We don't have a single player ( not even Decker ) that is able to win a 1o1 battle for the ball in the air by using their body. We saw what happened to Kerley when he was thrown in the back of the endzone. He was tossed out easily. Cumberland has been a huge dissappointment so far this season and I don't know if he's still struggling with his achilles or what but Amaro needs to start getting more of his snaps. Right now him and Sudfield are the only 2 players on offense that are capable of / willing to win a jump ball against a real def.
If you're not interested in getting back into that argument, why did you just author that huge post about that argument?
I'll give our 1st year special teams coach a pass since it is his 1st year but Sanjay Lal this easily falls on if he was responsible for a 4th round grade for Saunders. He's had a suspect resume in Oakland being apart of drafting the likes of Heyward-Bey with a top 10 pick, Jacoby Ford and Denarious Moore in rds 4 and 5 in the 2010 and 2011 draft respectively. The latter two each have had 1 strong year until fizzling out for Oakland as Moore has not done much this year in Oakland(Took Moore over Kerley in round 5) As Jets WR coach, he's been apart of taking Stephen Hill over Alshon Jeffrey and Reuben Randle, and now has had a miss with the Saunders pick. Lal's had some misses when it comes to evaluating young WRs coming out of the draft. I didn't want to bring up Jordan White, our 7th round pick in 2012 since its a 7th round pick but he was drafted over undrafted players Jermaine Kearse(SEA) and Rod Streeter(OAK), both of whom are big players in their respective offenses.
Yeah.. Not sure what that's sayin but definitely an indictment of Woody's lack of NFL front office knowledge if he had to go thru a headhunter to find a GM. Right now, I'd be happy if Idzik gave that $20mil he's got stashed away to a real football executive with a solid personnel background. Just imagine.. a GM that defers personnel decisions paired with a HC that defers everything offense related. Recipe for a SB right there tellya what..
As I said from draft night, you can't play receiver in the NFL at 5'8", 165. He was beyond frail. It was a HORRIBLE pick. This was the best receiver draft in years and we came out with 3 scrubs despite having 12 picks. Meanwhile Brandin Cooks leads the Saints in receptions, Kelvin Benjamin is a beast and Jordan Matthews, John Brown, Allen Hurns, Allen Robinson, Jarvis Labdry and Marquise Lee have flashed lots of potential. This entire regime is a joke. They all need to go.
If this is in response to me the first sentence pertains to Stephen Hill in response to "we know what we had". The rest is 100% on why Saunders is not an NFL ready WR and the overall affect keeping him had on our team. Which is more or less what this thread is about.
Why exactly would we want to replace Kerley?he's a great num 3 and a solid num 2.Kerley would be deadly in the slot if we had a deep threat oppisite Decker. He would have some bum covering him.But its a mismatch him going up against a big tall corner he can easily be taken out of games when Deckers not 100% or not playing
You can approach the draft one of three ways: 1) the Tanny way. Package your entire draft into 2-3 'cant miss picks' (then get pissed/fired when they all miss). 2) the Idzik way. Pick the best 12 guys you can, work them out through training camp, keep the best 5, plow 3-4 more onto the practice squad, and kick the 'fails' to the curb.
Three ways; where's 3? Either way requires that you pick good players. I like how all the picks in miss when you go by way of option 1…LOL
Well its way too early to tell whether or not Idzik drafting has been good. People are too quick to call players busts especially at rookies. I dont know why fans in general have become so impatient with rookies and they are all expected to be impact players early on.
I thought we would get something solid out of Saunders. Nothing but a bad pick in the 4th round, not good.
Mrs Idzik says "go have some tea and crumpets at the Darmouth Club downtown where you belong with the WALL STREET BOYS already . Even the NYT is busting on us poor folk. The job in high finance is waiting!!
Deep Threat opposite Kerley? Maybe thats Graham? One can hope... NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Titans claimed wide receiver T.J. Graham, who was cut by the Buffalo Bills, according to ESPN’s Adam Caplan. The roster move to make room for the speedster is not yet known, but it seems likely the team will cut fifth receiver Derek Hagan. Graham was a 2012 third-rounder out of NC State. In two seasons he caught 54 passes for 683 yards and three touchdowns. I asked Greg Cosell of NFL Films about Graham. "Vertical speed guy, nothing more,” Cosell said. “He can run."
That's basically what Hakim brings to the offense, straight line speed. Can't catch, doesn't get proper routes down(Forget it now, he has no chemistry with either QB), inconsistent separation. I don't get the pickup.
Yeah but none of us can evaluate Hakim since they haven't put him in a real game. At least we can hope TJ or Owusu is the real deal
Owusu is more for special teams, which is why he's replacing LeQuan Lewis who looked absolutely lost out on special teams. Also was the Bucs KR to start the year I believe, has PR experience. EDIT: He actually has a TD for TB this year....wow.
