We spent big money on a WR (decker) We used a 2nd round pick on a TE (amaro) We got a HB who has been top 5 in total yards the past 3 seasons (Johnson) thats a WR, HB, TE in one offseason. we have major issues in the secondary, with our linebackers, and with our offensive line. we cant just used all our day 1 draft picks and all our cap on skill players in one offseason. Im sure we will use day 1 picks/Free agency to add another 2-3 next offseason. again, its a rebuild. it takes 3 or 4 years. it isnt done in 1 offseason. decker was a major infusion of talent and is just 26. Amaro alot of people were high on who may still pan out.
A massive rebuild would involve a completely new coaching staff and scouting department to go along with the new general manager. Is that what we have going on here? We put a new coat of paint on and you think it's a massive rebuild. Get over yourself.
Who said we have to use our day 1 draft picks and all cap space to get decent weapons? In the modern day NFL, it should not take 4 yrs to rebuild a team. Look at the Chiefs when Andy Reid came to town. I'm not buying it, the Jets had an awful draft this yr. I hope I am wrong in 2 yrs. I really do. CJ was part of the rebuild? Seriously?
If rex gets fired in a year where we have by far the lowest total salary in the nfl our franchise is more than doomed. Rex Ryan is not the problem he is a good coach and should be our coach like marvin lewis is the coach of the bengals. Yes for that long! Rex is really that good, his players love him and play their hearts out for him he is a genius on the defensive side of the ball and when given talent he has proven to be a winner like the 09 and 10 seasons. Get his offense halfway on par, let him run an elite defense (as he always does) and give us a halfway decent quarterback and this team is going places. Thats really all he needs. Our talent will improve in the next few years and if it doesn't Idzik should go not Rex. And if he does get fired he will be a head coach somewhere else in a heart beat.
Yes, that is pretty much what is going on here... i mean: new GM, new offensive coordinator, new defensive coordinator, new special teams coach, new director of player personel. the head coach may still be here, but thats completely cleaning house for the most part. and in all likelyhood if it was up to idzik and not woody rex would be gone too. this is my point with delusional fans refusing to accept we are rebuilding. We replaced our GM, all our assitant coaches, our directory of player personel, our QB yet we arent rebuilding? i believe it is you who needs to get over yourself
CJ wasnt part of the rebuild. but he was brought in to help the offense. and yes, it absolutely takes 3-4 years to rebuild a team... especially one with no QB and is in cap hell.
They play their hearts out? They are 1-4. His defense isn't elite, teams have 90 yard drives and 3rd down conversions at will.
Agree 100%. this team has no talent. if you brought back rex after last year how can you not bring him back after this year? rex is one of the good things we have here. letting him go would be an enormous mistake unless you can gte Gruden or someone of that ilk
They do play their hearts out. the defense is overachieving beyond belief. we played some elite QBs yet were able to stay in games for a decent duration. Rex has the worst secondary in the NFL and a bottom 5 group of linebackers. anoffense that goes 3-and-out or turns it over. to not be allowing 40 ppg right now is a miracle
Nah, doesn't take 3 or 4 yrs. Not anymore. The Jets didn't have a true plan in place. How many draft picks from the last 2 years have a role on this team? Jets reached for a QB in 2013 and decided to neglect all the skill position players available in 2013. They ruled out getting a good QB prospect in 2014, and still did not look to get more weapons for the Jets offense to support that young QB. More could have been done - I don't see a plan in place. Idzik looks as if he wants this team to tank w/out telling anyone. Including Rex.
Offensive talent was available for 2 drafts. 2 drafts. We got 1 weapon. Let's hear it for Idzik's plan so far guys.
But the guys on the team said they are one of the best defenses, why did they say that? Maybe Rex should stop telling his players how good they are and hold some accountable when they play like shit. Maybe challenge them sometimes instead of being their best friend. I would love Rex too if i was on the Jets. Fuck up all day and STILL not benched?
Yes, it does. are there exceptions? sure, a few... and they are usually linked to bringing in a great coach/QB combination. but, overall its 3-4 years 95% of the time. some much longer. look at the dolphins, bills, titans still in that process. or how long it took the bengals before getting there recently reaching for a QB would have been taking Geno in round 1. in round 2 it was worth a shot given how QB desperate we were. we had the worst starting QB in the league in sanchez. it was well worth the dice roll. ignoring QB in round 1 this year was fine, given there really wasnt anyone great to be had and we could see if geno would develop and have it not matter since this was a throw away year either way. again you might be delusional and think this year matters but to the team its a 3-4 year vision. didnt look to get more weapons? we spent big money on deceker and took a TE in round 2. Have you seen our secondary? its the worst in football, if you have an issue with us using a high draft pick to try and help that then you truly have no clue. you dont see a plan because you think this is madden where you just flip a team in one year. look at the big picture. the 3-4 year plan is in place and Idzick has done a great job so far.
im fine with players being confident. and guys like richardson have been backing up there play. its not like darren walls or kyle wilson is parading us as the '85 bears
Rex Ryan is still the head coach and most of his assistant coaches are still in the building. None of that changed when Idzik arrived aside from the DC who wasn't getting along with Rex. Hell, Sanjay fucking Lal is still here. How does that fuck head survive a new GM and a "massive rebuild"? Oh and King Terry Bradway is the senior director of college scouting. Yup - massive rebuild going on here. MASSIVE. Make no mistake, this was nothing more than a new coat of paint ... and it's peeling quickly.
But nobody else says shit like that. Rex shouldn't give his players that much credit because most of them aren't as good as he thinks. He says the talent is there, it's not.
Rex Ryan sucks. Period. I watched the team in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 and now in 2014. There is no excuse that can be made to say he is a good HEAD coach. His worst quality is his overconfidence. It is embarrassing. Ever heard of adjusting? No. He hasn't. He thinks he is right 24/7. It is sickening. I would have fired him after the 2012 season. Then again after Mark Sanchez got injured, then again after the 2013 season, then again after the Chargers game. Woody? Apparently he has more patience than me. And winning is not that important to him.
This is not about a few games against really good competion. We are 1-4 due to the lack of talent, we have the lowest salary cap number in the league by a long shot. Our defense is filled with YOUNG talent who have yet to reach their full potential and our run defense is already elite.... (don't give me crap about one game this is about a whole sampling of ryans tenure). Give this defense a year or two and a free agent or two and we we are back to being elite. And yes they play their hearts out for him no one rallies the troops like rex he is one of if not the best motivators in the league. And as I said give him talent (which is the GMs job not Rexs) and he has already proven to be successful, 09 and 10 ring a bell. We are in rebuilding mode and getting rid of rex will only set as back even more. I believe Idzik knows what he has in rex just like woody johnson knows what he has in rex and should keep him around if he doesn't fold under the pressure of the media and irrational fans. And itsd irrational fans that called for Geno Smiths head for an aging mike vick (did a big difference in that game right... please). Why pull a second year QB who is developing for a player of equal talent, to be generous. As an organization you have to have a plan and trust your plan. Thats why I hate the fact that idzik has already cut a lot of his draft picks without giving them time to grow like saunders. This is a rebuilding year and is a process and fans must understand the state of a franchise before jumping the gun.
I'm not sure why people feel like getting rid of Rex will be a huge disaster. Everybody dreams of having a coach for 10+ years and magically getting good but it doesn't work that way
