The home loss to New England in December of 2001 is probably one of the most underrated losses in the long history of big losses that this franchise has ever had. If we win that game (which we blew a solid lead in), we almost definitely win the division that year at 11-5. It would have been us with a first round bye instead of New England. New England very likely doesn't win the Superbowl that year and who knows if they ever become the perennial contender that they ultimately became.
Exactly. I wrote about that game quite a bit back in earlier times on this board. That was a horrific Paul Hackett/Herman Edwards Playing Not to Lose Special.
I disagree. That playoff win vs the Pats was certainly the high point, but the Rex era didn't start going downhill until we got blown out by the Eagles in December of the 2011 season. We weren't as good as the 2010 team, but we were still sitting at 8-5, poised for a third consecutive playoff appearance (first time in franchise history) and riding a 3 game win streak. It's been all south since then ... Set on fire by Santionio Holmes --- who had the balls to point fingers as the season went down the toilet.
