Even if you don't agree with Idzik's moves you just have to accept no GM gets fired after 2 seasons. Idzik and the (potentially) new coaching staff will work on the roster.
Sorry, but I'm not patting Rex on the back right now. He's 15-26 in his last 41 games with 10 of those 26 losses coming by 20 or more points. I'm just not in the mood for a"Rex is a defensive genius" circle jerk.
Maybe he genuinely is completely limited to one side of the ball, and maybe that is a problem. Right now that's completely speculation though, we all know Rex loves defense much much more than offense but you have to understand QB progressions, every WR route, the way an offense tries to spread out a defense... I mean let's be real, to be a master of one you must have intimate knowledge of the other. It's not apples and oranges, offense and defense are very much intertwined aspects of the same fundamental thing. Why can Rex Ryan beat Manning and Brady? Because he fundamentally understands what they are trying to do.
Bro he's supposed to be the head coach. In charge of the entire operation. It's under his charge isn't it!
The only one I can think of in recent memory is Lombardi with the Browns last year, but that was highly unusual.
I don't understand the continuously championed argument "I'm tired of the circus" or the like. I don't understand how completely turning over the top of the organization every few years breeds success. Or is the plan to keep turning it over until we get a GM/HC that you personally like, then we stick with them? Or maybe you actually expect to hire someone to come in and just win the super bowl in their first two years, then every few years after that forever. Really please explain it to me. Well, don't explain it if your explanation is "Anybody is better than what we have". We've had "Anybody". It didn't go well* *See Kotite, Rich; Edwards, Herm; Mangini, Eric; etc. I hear Bruce Coslet is available....
This is unfortunately the business of the NFL; immediate success is required, or you're on the hot seat. By the third year, a coach is either a winner (playoffs, and ideally a playoff win), or rumors about his being fired at the end of the season will start to circulate. Me personally - I don't want to be that reactionary. As I said, I'm concerned about how things are going. And the Jets have not been on a good trajectory the last three years. While I don't think we should change coaches every year or two, five years is a pretty good sample size here. How long do you want to wait? How many 8-8 seasons does it take with bad in-season losses, back-page drama, backbiting players, ridiculous press conferences, lack of accountability from players or coaches? Yes, it's possible that none of this is really Rex's fault - but he's the captain of the ship. Like it or not, he goes down with it. I've historically been on Rex's side and was opposed to his firing when the talk started a couple years back. But I've finally been worn down on the issue. He's a brilliant defensive mind and players love playing for him. The prototypical defensive co-ordinator. But as a head coach? No. He needs to go.
Derek Carr looked great under Sparano, whereas that was Sanchez's worst year. Schottenheimer is getting good play out of Austin Davis for Christ's sake. Maybe more of it has to do with the QB.
So let me get this straight.. If I get perma banned I can just make another account and keep posting here if I want. Ok then.
Putting aside the sample size issue, you are right in the sense it has to do with the player not fitting the scheme(s). There's no doubt in my mind that if Sanchez was drafted a team that ran the WCO he would be viewed as a well above average starter in this league at the very least. In classic Jets fashion, when we finally get the perfect fit between player and scheme, we put him in the 4th quarter of a meaningless pre-season game then cut him the next year.
We lost the game by almost as many points as we scored..... Yes Peyton struggled, yes it was because some of the things Rex's Defense did...... But Rex is responsible for the offense that had there best day in recent memory and only scored 17 points...... How long do we give him a pass on offense? That's the question Woody has to answer.......
He's the head coach, but he was a top of the line defensive coordinator. Most coaches come in as OC's or DC's. They usually gravitate to what thhey know best. If he doesn't know how to run an offense, why would he have a hand in it?
How funny would it be if we signed Mark Sanchez this offseason. It might be the funniest experience of my life.
The only way I could see that happening is with a well established HC like Gruden here. Only he would have to clout and arrogance to defy the fan base.
